Well it is finally here, the summer! I know many of you have been looking forward to these months while I was out enjoying the cooler months. I hope I will be able to survive another HOT summer. Fact is, for the most part, the vacations have been planned, cars gassed up, and we are all ready for a fun filled, excitement filled, busy summer. With all that is going on however, let me remind you that the church is still here and our commitment still needs to be fulfilled. So what is with a commitment and what does it mean to us when we are away? Let me answer that question with a story about one of the greatest golfers of all time, Bobby Jones. He is uniquely known for winning the “Grand Slam” of golf; winning all four major tournaments in the U.S. and Brittain in a single year. In 1925, early in his career, having reached the final playoff in the U.S. Open, at a certain point in the match, Jones was setting up to strike his ball which was in the rough just off the fairway. His iron accidentally touched the ball. He immediately became angry with himself, turned to the marshals, and called a penalty on himself. But the marshals had not seen the ball move, so they left the decision to Jones, whether to invoke the penalty a two-stroke penalty. No instant replay here to determine what happened. Bobby called the penalty on himself, not knowing that he would lose the tournament by a single stroke. When praised for his honesty, he replied, “You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank!” Jones may have lost the tournament, but his character was legendary and today the United States Golf Association’s award for sportsmanship is known as the “Bobby Jones Award.” It’s been said, “Character is what you do when nobody is watching. Character is how you treat people who can do absolutely nothing for you. Character is how you react when the pressure is on. Character is deciding beforehand that you are going to do the right thing.” Every day we’re faced with decisions — many of which are made when no one is watching, at least no one we can see. But let’s purpose in our hearts to do the right thing — because character truly counts. We may not see the dividends immediately but be assured that God is keeping track of our decisions, and He will make good on every one! While we are out and about this summer soaking up the rays, let us remember that our church is still open for business and that our commitment to our church by supporting it through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness still remains. Well it is finally here, the summer! I know many of you have been looking forward to these

months while I was out enjoying the cooler months.

Let me answer that question with a story about one of the greatest golfers of all time, Bobby

Jones.

But the marshals had not seen the ball move, so they left the decision to Jones, whether to

invoke the penalty — a two-stroke penalty. No instant replay here to determine what happened. Bobby called the penalty on himself, not knowing that he would lose the tournament by a single stroke. When praised for his honesty, he replied, “You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank!” Jones may have lost the tournament, but his character was legendary and today the United States Golf Association’s award for sportsmanship is known as the “Bobby Jones Award.”

It’s been said, “Character is what you do when nobody is watching. Character is how you

treat people who can do absolutely nothing for you. Character is how you react when the pressure is on. Character is deciding beforehand that you are going to do the right thing.”

Every day we’re faced with decisions — many of which are made when no one is watching,

at least no one we can see. But let’s purpose in our hearts to do the right thing — because character truly counts. We may not see the dividends immediately — but be assured that God is keeping track of our decisions, and He will make good on every one! While we are out and about this summer soaking up the rays, let us remember that our church is still open for business and that our commitment to our church by supporting it through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness still remains.

North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) – We are going to list one item a month that we will ask you to buy when you go to the store and drop off at the church for NSHH. Since we did not collect very much PASTA in May, we are going to make that the item again in June. Any kind will do. We will deliver to Helping Hand on a regular basis during the month. Mobile Meals - We need your help. Mobile Meals of the North Strand, a very important ministry delivering hot meals to shut-ins five days a week, is in urgent need of drivers. Mobile Meals will train each driver for the daily route. Drivers rotate and usually drive two to three times a month on given days. If you have any interest in helping Mobile Meals as a driver, or even as a substitute driver, please contact the coordinator for Trinity Methodist Church: Marie Cary at 843-399-2968. Thank you for all that YOU do to support the mission projects of our Church. SCHEDULE FOR JUNE 2015

MUSIC NEWS FOR JUNE May has been a very busy month. We had communion on the first Sunday as usual and also, on two other occasions. That first Sunday, we received an apple to remind us of the choices we make in life. Several participated in Relay for Life the day before. On Thursday, the 7th, we opened our sanctuary all day for National Day of Prayer. People had the opportunity to come, sit, pray, light a candle, listen to soft music, and have communion. The second Sunday was Mother’s Day and we had beautiful carnations. We had a single service on the 17th on the lawn followed by a covered dish picnic. The children, with a few adult helpers, played bells. The fourth Sunday was Pentecost, but also Memorial Day weekend and we had our confirma-tion group join the church. It was so good to have a total of 7 wonderful and talented youth in this class of 2015. Along with them, we had several others, mostly family of the confirma-tion students, join the church as well. The orchestra played, making this day glorious. The last Sunday we honor our graduates and the hand bell choir plays. It was a good thing we had 5 Sundays in May to make everything fit. The chancel choir will continue to sing during the summer, but we will not have weekly Wednesday night practice until the fall. We will practice on Sunday mornings and maybe one time in the evening over the summer. The hand bell choir will be on the summer schedule with a smaller group playing. The orchestra will practice less during the summer. Please watch for practice times for all of the music programs. Summer is a great time to become a part of the music program. The hand bell choir play-ing as a smaller group, uses fewer bells and usually practices at a different time of day. If you have ever thought you would like to play, this would be the perfect time. See one of us about starting on a new adventure. As for the chancel choir, join us on Sunday mornings at 10:20 in the A. G. Greene building to practice. You can just come and sing along in practice and maybe see that joining the choir is in your future. I would love to find a place for you. The orchestra is a little different in that you need to have played, or are playing, an instrument. If you have an interest in adding your instrument to the group, please see Bill or Albert. I hope that all of you have a wonderful summer. Be safe and always keep music as a part of your life. Thanks, Melody Evans

Dear Trinity family,

I hope all of you know how much I have enjoyed working at Trinity UMC in my position as Director of Christian Education. I cannot say enough about how this congregation has supported and

encouraged both me and my husband Bear over the years. Each of you have been Christ’s hands

and feet to Bear and I personally on more occasions than I can count. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with so many wonderful people, serving together and sharing God’s love.

Trinity UMC will always hold a special place in my heart. Many prayers were answered when

Bear took his new job with the state in Columbia, SC. He is now working in his field! I knew I

would try to move to Columbia sometime over the summer, but God has opened doors for me sooner than I had anticipated. I will begin a new chapter, working with Lutheran Theological

Southern Seminary, on June 8th.

I am amazed at how quickly things have come together: God is good all the time! I look

forward to seeing all of you again and I will continue to pray for this church and its ministries. God is truly at work in this place, and Trinity is abundantly blessed with His grace!

Blessings,

Elizabeth Cheezem

The PEP Club will meet on Thursday, June 25th, at noon for a

During the Advent season, our Sanctuary is beautifully decorated to celebrate the

and cherubic faces of our children!

Adding solemnity, amid the greenery and the twinkling lights, the hand made Crismons

of white and gold adorn our majestic tree and remind us of the Christmas story

through the broad range and size of the Christian symbols depicted.

Historically, a CHRISt MONogram is the Chi Rho monogram of Christ from the earliest

believers. Early Christians used symbols to identify themselves to one another, to

designate meeting places of the Church, and sometimes, to show unbelievers where

they stood. Even more important, these symbols of the early Church served to

transmit the faith and beliefs of the artist-teacher to the viewer. Thus the inspira-

tion was shared and passed on. In time the original monograms evolved into signs, sym-

bols, and figures. The one requirement for a Crismon is that it refer primarily to our

Lord and God. All Crismons are made in combinations of white and gold. White, the

liturgical color for Christmas, refers to our Lord’s purity and perfection; gold, to His

majesty and glory. We point to the Christ as the Light of the world by using tiny white

lights on the tree.

Trinity is now in need of additional Crismons and as our original craftswomen,

Ruth Aiken and Jeanne Ford, have gone to be with our Lord, a new generation of willing

hands is needed. We have instructional books, patterns, and kits for beginners and

invite any interested persons to explore this creative possibility at Crismon Workshops

beginning on Wednesday, June 17th and June 18th at 1pm in the AG Greene Building.
