Many Christians challenge themselves to give up favorite foods or beverages or TV or other forms of entertainment during Lent, to help practice discipline, self- denial, and repentance. Blessings upon you, Dear Friends!

LENT. We begin Lent next week with our ASH WEDNESDAY service, Wednesday, February 10, 6:30PM in the Sanctu-ary. A season of self-denial and introspection in preparation for Easter, Lent commemorates Christ fasting 40 days in the wilderness as did Elijah who fled for his life through the wilderness, fasting 40 days and nights, and Moses, who fasted 40 days during which time God gave him the Ten Commandments. Dear Trinity Prayer Group, Thank you for the continued prayers and prayer cards requested by Linda Boyd. It means a lot to me. Please continue the prayers as I continue to fight this mean disease. Sincerely, Jennifer West Dear Trinity Presbyterian Prayer Group,

I would like to thank the many members who have been so kind as to continue keeping us in your prayers. It does lift me up to know LeRoy has so many people praying for him, and knowing you have us both in your thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Pat & LeRoy Chambers

Dear Trinity Family, Thank you for your overwhelming show of support, in so many ways, given to me and my family regarding the recent loss of my youngest son, Douglas Kerr. Because of your loving concern, you have less-ened this latest heartache of ours. With Love, Kathy Webb and family

Wendy, Thanks to you and the Trinity Team for all the love and support. I know a lot of people have been involved and do not have all the names, but I hope we can ask one more favor and have you share our gratitude. While I know Ken was not done with her work here, she had learned a lot from her previous experience and I can say with confidence she was unafraid. She had insight to the next steps that few of us will ever know. I take great faith in the comfort she gained from that knowledge. The Trinity Family is always there to offer love and support to those in need. We are blessed to be a part of it. Thank you. Jeff Drinkard

Dear Prayer Team, Ashley has been blessed for over 18 years by your faithful prayers and cards. It is a very mean-ingful ministry. Thank you for your caring love. In Jesus’ precious name, Jean and Bill Calvert

Dear Prayer Warriors, I wanted to thank you all so much for your continued prayers throughout my cancer battle. All cancer is gone and two surgeries, chemo and radiation are all behind. Please know I could feel your prayers at work in my life. Sincerely, Tonya DelGallo

ARTISTS IN THE LIBRARY Starting in the middle of January, BEN PREWITT'S beautiful watercolors, acrylics and oil paintings will still be available to us for the month of February. We continue to be amazed at the number of Trinity members who are willing to share with us their lovely works of art. Ben and his wife Beverly joined Trinity in 1977, and shared (at our request) a brief Bio. "I have 2 sons, 2 daughters in law and 2 grandsons. Beverly is my wife, my love and my best friend. This year we will have been mar-ried 45 years" Ben went to college and Medical School in Memphis. A

rotating Internship brought him to Pensacola, where later he completed a Pediatric Residency. Then to California, to fulfill a military obliga-tion, working for two years as a Pediatrician at the Long Beach Regional Navy Medical Center. He left the Navy with the rank of Lt. Cdr. In Pensacola he worked as a Board Certified Emergency Physician (almost 30 years) and about 9 years at the local Veteran's Medical Clinic. "Almost all of my art has been self taught I began drawing at a very young age. During my preteen years I could copy anything, and later I was able to draw almost anything from imagination. I doodled constantly. I drew my friends and teachers. I probably did hundreds if not thousands of various drawings throughout my many years. I have also done hundreds of creations on the computer. .... My watercolor and acrylic animals and birds come from photos/slides that I took at several zoos. My butterflies were done from images seen in books … Art has been a very enjoyable hobby for me for over 60 years.( I will soon be 70.)” Ben has left in the Library by the desk, more descriptions of his work with computers, and pictures of his paintings.

Spiritual Warfare

The Battle for God’s Glory

By Jerry Rankin

Our struggle to live lives worthy of our identity as Christians is spiritual Warfare. We already have

victory over the world through Jesus, but Satan picks a fight with believers, nonetheless, using temp-

tations and trials in an effort to steal God’s glory in our lives. Learn spiritual disciplines and the na-

ture of the enemy so we can reflect God’s glory and be equipped for victory in Christ Jesus.

To all Trinity Church Members: Please notify the church (432-3505) of any change in your contact information. As an example, we have tried to reach some of you and your land line has been disconnected and we do not have your cell phone number. Please help us in this effort so that we may contact you about the good things happening at TRINITY.

Lent Challenge: Adam Hamilton, minister and author, has challenged us to commit reading through at least one of the Gospels this year. Specifically, he challenges us to a 40-day read-through of the Gospel of John during Lent. Hamilton’s latest book, John, The Gospel of Light and Life, is a perfect Lenten companion to-guide us through the Gospel of John. Hamilton says he has only scratched the surface in a way to awaken curiosity of readers unfamiliar with John’s Gospel and of those lulled to sleep by overfamiliarity with its language. Hamilton resources reveals .. “theological and symbolic layers of John and so, opens a door to its depth of meaning. What better pathway into John’s transforming message of light and life!””. How will you observe Lent this year? You are invited to study, fel-lowship and worship with Friends in Faith Bible Study Group beginning a 6 week study of John, The Gospel of Light and Life on Tuesday, February 16th, in Room D at 3:00 – 4:30 P.M. Hey YOUTH! Hold on tight because there are many exciting events to look for-

ward to this month! February 7th is the Souper Bowl of Caring. We will need every-one to help collect bags of donated food in the church parking lot to take to Manna. Don’t forget to bring a bag of canned food to church with you that morning. Super Bowl Sunday means Super Bowl Parties. Thank you to the Hendrix’s and Stage’s for hosting. All youth are asked to bring an appetizer to share. Mid-Highs will go home after the half-time show. February 14th is Valentine’s Day and there will be a Valentine’s Day Luncheon for Prayer Partners after worship. The youth will prepare lunch, serve, and clean-up. What a great opportunity for the youth and prayer partners to spend time together! Dogwood Youth Conference is 2/19 – 2/21 for Mid & Senior High Youth at Dogwood Acres. We are seeking a male chaperone and could use additional chap-erones or drivers. Please contact me if you are planning on attending this retreat. February 28th is Rummage Sale set-up after worship. Rummage Sale is March 5th & 6th. Ash Wednesday is February 10th, the beginning of the season of Lent. In the midst of all the busyness, it is my prayer that you will be able to take some time to reflect and prepare for the coming Easter joy. Grace, Lori

The Library and Christian Education Committees are excited to share the news that everyone at Trinity now has access to an extensive, new video library called RightNow Media! It’s like the "Netflix of Video Bible Studies" and has a HUGE library of faith-based videos that you can access whenever and wherever you want—on your phone, iPad, computer, or at home on your TV. Here is a link to instructions on accessing Right Now Media: http://rightnowmedia.org/connect-all-devices. We believe that RightNow Media will be a tool to serve you as you live out your faith at home, at work and in your neighborhood. RightNow Media has videos for everyone—kids, youth, parents, married couples, college students, sin-gle adults, working professionals—all aimed at helping you grow. Thanks to a Legacy grant this subscription is completely free of charge. There are no charges for using the service. Additionally, the service can be extended to your friends and family who are not members of Trinity. All you need to do is send an email to Steve Takeuchi at [email protected] or contact the office and we will send you an email invi-tation to establish a login. Once you receive the email, simply click the link, sign up for an account, and you’re all set to explore more than 12,000 videos. We pray that RightNow Media will be a blessing for you and your family!

Legacy Fund We are continuing to highlight Legacy Fund projects and the impact that they have had. This month we are highlighting a Legacy grant to Pathways For Change. In June of 2015, the Service Committee recommended a Legacy application from Pathways For Change. In 2005, Pathways For Change (PFC) was born as a comprehensive 18-month residential program for both female and male court ordered clients. The program has served hundreds of individuals and their families and boasts a 70% success rate vs. the 32% success that jails and prisons offer through the "corrections" mode of treatment. In 2012, PFC added The Family Center- a family resource center by day and a recovery center by night. Today, PFC serves over 500 people a month – resources include free childcare for parents enrolled in Vocational and Adult Basic Education classes; weekly seminars on wellness, nutrition, money management and parenting; mental health counseling and case manage-ment for adults and children; healthy snacks for the K-5th grade after school tutoring and recreational program; Adult Children of Alco-holics, Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings also offer in-house childcare so infants will be cared for while parents are getting the support they need to stay clean and sober. In 2015, Pathways For Change founded "Everything Outdoors", (ETO), a landscaping and handyman type business that provides on the job training for ex-felons who have successfully graduated from substance abuse treat-ment and are in need of employment. Many of the participants/employees live in The Clinton Cox Residence, a Pathways For Change facility. Participants have an opportunity to work to become self-sufficient, provide essential support to their families, pay taxes and serve their community. ETO will be a self-sustaining business that will bring revenue to support all Pathways For Change programming. The Legacy grant was to fund the purchase of a truck needed in ETO’s business. As part of the application, Pathways For Change opened its volunteer opportunities to Trinity and its members. The Service Committee committed to informing the congregation concerning the volunteer opportunities at PFC. The application was approved by the Session in the Fall of 2015 and a presentation ceremony was held during Sunday Worship. Please watch for this column in the months ahead to learn more about the difference the Legacy Fund is making. If you have suggestions for future initiatives funded by the Legacy Fund, please talk to a member of the staff, session or legacy committee or submit a suggestion in the suggestion box in the Narthex or on line at the Trinity website. Please remember that Legacy Funds are dedicated to projects out-side the normal Church budget. To learn more about legacy fund priorities go to our webpage at www.trinitypcola.org/legacy. Legacy Committee: Jan Beck, Giles Yokel, Jean Norman, Steve Takeuchi, Bob Palmer and Leah McCreary. Ex Officio members are Hugh Hamilton, Sharon Robbins and Ruth White.

The Children & Youth Sunday School classes join together 4 times per year for a service project. This time to-

gether will offer an opportunity to express their love and care for one another while serving other sheep of His

flock. Each year the Christian Education Team looks at projects that benefit locally, nationally, globally and

within our own congregation. During one Sunday school hour the children and youth will work together to com-

plete a project in which they can identify with the need and the lesson learned through Biblical teachings. Each

project will be led by a different team of volunteers who have a passion for the project’s cause. We ask for the

parent’s support with these projects. The children & youth will receive a list of items they will supply for each

project. Only one class period will be used for each project so attendance will be essential. If anyone wishes to

There are many ways that you can help our presbytery’s Outdoors Ministry, and for the rest of the fall and

winter there will be one day a month set aside for folks who enjoy getting out into nature and helping with

hands-on projects. These will be supervised work days planned for individuals and/or small groups. Activi-

ties will range from trail blazing to painting, to carpentry projects, landscaping and gardening, and general

maintenance. Whether you have a teen that needs to put in volunteer hours, a Sunday school class that

loves to get out and do things together, or are an individual that just wants to support our ministry, please

consider signing up for a day at Dogwood Acres.

James Vance, DWA Ministry Team Chair will supervise on the following days. Please email him at

[email protected] to let him know the kinds of things you feel comfortable helping with. He keeps a list

of a variety of projects and will customize the day’s work to fit your abilities.

AARP TAX AIDE

AARP Tax Aide assists low and moderate income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older, with the electronic fil-ing of their federal income tax returns. AARP membership is not required to take advantage of our service. The service is completely free of charge. The program is jointly sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation. All of our counselors and client facilitators are volunteers who are trained in tax law and the use of the computer re-turn preparation software that we use to prepare tax returns. The closest sites to Trinity are the Vickery Center, 2130 Summit Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32503, which will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and the Bayview Senior Center, 2000 East Lloyd Street, Pen-sacola, FL 32503, which will be open Mondays through Thursdays, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. We start preparing re-turns on February 1st and run through April 18th. Our services are on a first come first serve basis. We ask that the taxpayers bring with them their picture id, social security cards for everyone on the return, a copy of last year’s return and all tax forms and information for this year. If they have numerous receipts, we ask that they prepare a schedule of their deductions. If you have any questions, please call or email, Stephen Takeuchi, at (850) 994-8103 or [email protected].
