ANYONE INTERESTED IN GROWING

THE FAITH OF OUR YOUTH?

Perhaps you’ve heard that young people are bailing out of the church in huge numbers. Many of them would leave earlier (as young as 13) if their parents didn’t make them come to church. This is a real crisis, especially when you consider that there is no evidence that young people are better off when they leave faith in the Church of Jesus Christ behind. So, what can be done? We’re looking for parents and “youngish” adults who are willing to come together and take a collective look at how we presently reach out to youth and to consider what changes we could make to at least improve the odds of more of them becoming and staying faithful to Christ and the Church. Why can’t we build a parish community in which our love and service of one another is so great that it becomes truly attractive to people of all ages. This has to involve more than “fun and games”. If you’re interested in gathering for a conversation, please contact [email protected] .

GOD IS STILL HEALING TODAY

God offers his healing power in many wonderful ways. In Baptism, we are healed of sin and death so that we might enjoy everlasting life. In Penance, the grace of baptism is restored to those who are forgiven mortal sins because they are resolved to turn away from them. For those in venial sin, Penance enhances the grace of baptism so that we can live holier lives. In the Holy Eucharist we pray “Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof but only say the Word and I shall be healed. In fact, offering the Mass and receiving Holy Communion can be understood as the church’s “ordinary” sacrament of healing. And we know that Christ gave us the anointing of the sick to send his healing Spirit upon those who are seriously ill.

Beyond the realm of the sacraments, however, there are individuals in our parish who have the gift of being willing to trust in the Lord as they pray for healing. Healing Prayer will be available in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel following the 5pm Mass on the 22nd of June.

Thank You, Good and Faithful Stewards!

*****BUILDING & MAINTENANCE FUND*****

Nearly 15 years ago we made a significant renovation to our existing facilities which also added several thousand square feet to accommodate a large commons area, a new kitchen, a gift shop, a greatly expanded nursery, a spacious youth center, and new air conditioning equipment to keep everyone comfortable. The generous contributions of hundreds of good stewards made it possible for us to build these facilities and to maintain them. In recent months we have become aware that our air conditioning system (called a “chiller”) may be failing us. Mechanical experts have carefully explored options to keep everything operating, but they have pointed out that maintenance costs are predictably going to spiral upwards and that our best solution may be the purchase of a new and more efficient chiller. This past Thursday, we obtained bids and held a joint meeting of our Maintenance & Property and Stewardship & Administration commissions to plot a course of action. After weighing the cost of ongoing repairs with total replacement with a much more efficient system (including a savings of 40% on utilities), we decided unanimously to accept the bid from Streets Mechanical for a new chiller which inclusive of all costs in the amount of $88,000 which, thanks be to God, we have on hand. Please keep costs like this in mind when designating a portion of your sacrificial giving to the Building & Maintenance Fund.
