Trinity Steeple Notes
Announcements and Events—Week of October 23, 2016
All Saints Day Memorials and Tributes
All Saints Sunday is November 6. As part of that service, we will
remember in prayer loved ones who have died since last All Saints
Day. Trinity members and those whose funerals were held at
Trinity will be named; you may submit the names of other loved
ones to Rachel Gambone ([email protected] or phone
610-374-4861, ext. 23) no later than Oct. 31.
This year, we will have Memorial Tables set up around the baptismal font at both
services. You are invited to bring a small remembrance of loved ones who have died —
a photo; something they made; a symbol of something they loved. Remembrances may
be placed at the font for any loved one who has died. Their death does not need to be
recent, nor do they need to be a member of Trinity. We will hold these before God as
we thank God for the lives of his precious saints. Following the service, you are
encouraged to bring these memorials home as a remembrance that your loved ones
continue to rest in God’s care.
Have You Made Your Reservation?
Our Celebration Brunch is November 13, following a single
9:30 worship service. You should have received an
invitation in the mail, along with a WE LOVE OUR
CHURCH magnet for your car or refrigerator. There is no
charge for the brunch, but reservations are required.
Additional RSVP cards are available in the Narthex. The menu includes a delicious
vegetable/egg casserole, honey baked ham, roasted root vegetables, loaded baked
potato salad, fried apples, assorted rolls and breads and a variety of bundt cakes,
cookies and pound cakes for dessert. Don’t miss this celebration of God’s goodness!

Welcome to Our New Nursery Attendant
Sylvia Starosciak is our new nursery attendant. We welcome her to Trinity as she cares
for our children. While children are always welcome in worship, we provide quality
childcare for little ones who get restless (and for parents who need a break) from 10:30-
12:30 each Sunday morning. Sylvia is assisted by a Trinity volunteer. If you can help
out four or five Sundays a year, contact Amy Norton Ritz or call the church office.
Grandparents are great at this! Thank you to Kathrine Graf and Lauren Wasmuth who
have covered the nursery as we searched for a new attendant.

Your Gifts Are Needed
A letter in your recent quarterly statement informed you that Trinity is
currently running significantly behind budget in member giving. We
need to work together to keep Trinity strong, healthy and active in
mission and ministry. If you can make a special gift this month, it would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all you do to support our work
together. We know that, with God’s help, we will meet this challenge
and continue to move forward as God’s faithful people!
Trinity Christmas Tree Sponsorships Available
We invite you to sponsor Trinity’s Christmas trees, including the costs for delivery,
setup, lighting and removal. Please sign up in the Altar Flower notebook or call the
church office at (610) 374-4861. The trees include one 14-foot fir tree at $475 (In order
to split the cost, there are two donor opportunities of $237.50) and two 8-foot fir trees:
$225 each ($450 total). Thank you for caring about the beauty of our church in the
season of Jesus’ birth.
CROP Walk Was a Great Success!
On Sunday, October 9th nearly 400 people walked in our 35th Annual
Walk and we exceeded the MILLION DOLLAR mark for money raised
over the years! WOW! 75% of money raised goes to Church World
Service to help feed people around the world and 25% goes to the
Greater Berks Food Bank to help feed our hungry neighbors locally. Special thanks to
all who participated - the recruiters, the walkers, the sponsors, and the planning team
– for helping to fight hunger one step at a time!

Common Ground Update
We praise God and thank the members of Trinity for giving
Common Ground an excellent start in the city. Common
Ground Recovery Ministry has been worshiping at Trinity each
Sunday at 4:00 p.m. since August 28. Common Ground has
drawn as many as 60 participants for worship, personal
sharing and a meal. An estimated 75% of worshipers are from Trinity’s neighborhood.
This strong beginning has been helped by prayer, support and special contributions of
over $10,000 from Trinity members. Pastor Tom Scornavacchi and Pastor Alan
Wolkenhauer join in grateful appreciation for the way Common Ground has been
welcomed and nurtured among us.
Remember that you are always welcome to join this special worship and to meet those
who lead and participate in this meaningful ministry of hope and recovery.
Trinity Is an “Accessibility Hot Spot”!
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod’s Accessibility Team has
designated Trinity as an “Accessibility Hot Spot” because we have at
least ten specific ways our congregation is inviting to people with
accessibility challenges.
Deaf worship
ASL interpreter
Entrance ramp
Elevator
Accessible parking
Large print bulletins
Broadcast and online media ministry
Accessible bathrooms
I Can Group activities
Deaf Senior Center activities

WBMD Fall Assembly
Thursday, November 3, 2016
6:30—8:30 p.m.
Hosted by Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn
Come for a night of food and fellowship and to learn more about two new Lutheran
ministries happening here in WBMD.
Hope’s Table is a community outreach ministry that includes a free meal and a brief
worship service each Tuesday evening at Hope Lutheran in Reading. We will hear
ways in which the community that gathers here are being fed both physically and
spiritually and learn of ways we can be involved.
Common Ground Recovery Ministry which now meets at two locations – Atonement
and Trinity Reading - offers hope and healing through a service that combines worship
and the tenets of the 12-step program for all who are broken. (And who isn’t?)
We will begin the evening at 6:30 p.m. with a “dinner” of heavy appetizers provided
by Thrivent, followed by presentations about these special ministries. We are asking
congregations to take special offerings to help support these ministries prior to the
Assembly. We will gather the offerings that night. We have attached bulletin inserts
for your use during the month of October.
Representatives from Thrivent will be at the
Assembly to share information on how to
apply for Action Team funding to help
support your own congregational ministries.
The only “Order of Business” for the Assembly will be to review/adopt the 2017
WBMD budget.
