WCW Celebrates

Chief Ken Seuberlich 22, July 2020

City of Bothell Police

18410 101st Ave, NE

Bothell, Wa. 98011

Dear Chief:

I can imagine that you have received a plethora of condolences from many people at the

loss of Officer Shoop. We at the Kenmore Gun Range wish to be counted proudly in that number of

salutations. We have many retired law enforcement officers as well as active duty officers that are

members of our gun range including myself. To be given the opportunity to thank you and the

many officers that serve our community is but a pittance of our appreciation.

Let me recall a little story that may help in the healing process for you and your officers. I

am a retired parole supervisor. Many years ago we lost a member of our parole officer staff to a

tragic medical occurrence that shook us all to the foundation of our very being. I only mentions

this to recap a serendipitous thing that occurred during the motorcade of the funeral. The young

deceased officer was the wife of Renton Police officer. As we drove in parade like fashion to the

cemetery with a full motor escort we meandered through a tree lined community of well-kept

modest houses. The funeral dirge attracted the attention of many of the neighbors. That’s when I

saw something that will forever be seared in my memory. There on the front lawn was a little boy

approximately eight years old. He stood there saluting the motorcade. My heart sunk and my spirit

was revived in the same instant. I began to understand that the collective consciousness is far

more resilient to loss than we can actually imagine. I guess what I wish for you and all your officers

to understand is that when you lose, we lose as well. Please keep an eye peeled for the joy and

pain to interconnect. In closing, I want to reiterate that we are with you in spirit and offer all

consolation to the family of Officer Shoop.

Sincerely Yours,

Joseph C. Rinaldi, President

Present board members:Joe Rinaldi (President)Mike Wichser (Vice President) via phoneRobb Stack (2nd Vice President)John Woolley (Treasurer)Jim Thompson (Chairman Elect)Larry Mallory (Trustee)Jeff Gomes (2yr Trustee) via phoneMartin Morehouse (Corresponding Secretary)Dale Sieg (Recording Secretary)

Absent board members:Gary Webster (past President)Jeff LeMoine (Chairman Trustees)Soo Drechsler (Trustee)

Committee Leads and Facilities Manager present at meeting:Robert Haverstock (Range Manager)Martin Morehouse (Rifle)Ken Deleone (Archery)Dave Elliott (Shotgun)Jo and Milt Schneider (Pistol) via phone

Guests:None

Committee reports:Only the Manager, Treasurer and Trustees presented content at the meeting.

Manager's Report:Robert Haverstock presented.Joe asked how members have reacting now that the club is open. Robert said some are happy and some are unhappy. We had a discussion about whether or not we should open the range to members on Tuesday through Thursday in addition to the current Friday through Monday. Robert suggested we open to members between 9am and noon. The board agreed and thought we should open it up as much as we can.Robert mentioned several members are complaining. A lot of it is about membership. Alison Sieg is now helpingwith membership so that should address many of those complaints. The range phone message system is not working. We do not have the code to change it. Robert is working with Comcast to get it working. Jim mentioned Sept 1st is deer season and the 12th is elk season. Jim would like to keep the range open to members the last week of August and first week of September. We discussed different options regarding when we would want renters renting our facility. Renters are financially helping the club tremendously while in this pandemic.

We discussed opening the range from 9 am to noon on Tuesday through Thursday. We will post when the renters are not using the range and we will open the range to members as much as we can.

Treasurer's Report:John Woolley presented. All things considered; we are in good shape. Utilities and employees have been down. The renters have been providing us income. If it were not for the renters, we would be in a significantly different place. Robert believes the renters may be interested in renting through mid-September but at a slower rate.

Trustees Report:Larry Mallory presented. The trustees met with Tami and others to discuss the financial system.

Old Business:We are continuing to move forward with researching the new POS system. With John now onboard, he will be driving. John will start reviewing the proposals and reaching out to the POS suppliers.

New Business:Martin Morehouse has been appointed to Corresponding Secretary.Elimination of the pistol range caliber restriction for Special Use.Joe Rinaldi brought up the idea of eliminating the pistol range caliber restriction for special use. We had a lengthy discussion about it. Joe moved to remove the requirement that people cannot use larger caliber pistols than what they were tested on. Jim seconded. Passed. The committee leads will get together between now and the next board meeting to discuss review the policies and processes. They will bring back to the board the proposal of how this will be implemented and any additional updates they believe need to be made.Streamline the orientationJoe would like to propose we streamline the orientation. He suggested we have the orientations and all the special use sessions on the same day. For example, on the same day, from 1pm to 2pm is the orientation, from 2pm to 3pm is the rifle special use, from 3pm to 4pm is the pistol special use and 4pm to 5pm they go to archery.Another suggestion is we would tell the people attending the following:a) Bring a picture for your badge. Electronic (for example, on your phone) or physical.b) Share what they get for attending Special Use sessions.

c) If they want Special Use, they should bring the firearm/bow they want to qualify with.Larry wanted to make sure we kept the rifle criteria separate from the pistol criteria. Martin explained we would combine what was common and keep separate what was not. There was some discussion about Shotgun having a special use in the future. We will table this and discuss on another day.The committee leads will get together to start working on this concept.

Larry moved to approve appointment the appointment of Alison Sieg to the membership position. Jim seconded. Passed. The range four-wheeler is very old and needs to be replaced. Larry says Carson received a quote for a four-wheeler that will meet our needs. The quote is $10659.23. Jim was concerned the size of the four-wheeler will not meet the needs of the range. Jim reviewed the specs and believes it is good. We will keep the ArcticCat until we know we no longer need it. We will hold off on Before the board votes on any purchases for this fiscal year, the budget has to be approved at the members meeting.

Martin will contact all the people who own the meetings on the calendar to determine what events will need to be canceled or postponed. Then, he will update the calendar. For new members, we will have orientation on July 11th at 1pm. We will ask Alison Sieg to inform new members. This will NOT be the proposed joint orientation and Special Use approach. We just want to get new members through orientation so they can start using the range while we are in this phase. We will work on the joint orientation and Special Use approach in the future.

For the Good of the Order:At the upcoming membership meeting (July 8th), the membership will be voting on a change to the first sentence of By-Law Article 5 section 5.The sentence will change from:The Board of Directors shall meet regularly on the first Wednesday of each month. To the following:The Board of Directors shall meet in the first half of every month. The schedule will be published annually. Changes to the published schedule will be communicated at least 30 days in advance of the published meeting date.

Joe moved to adjourn at 9:03 PM. Jim seconded. Passed.

Respectfully submitted by Dale Sieg, Recording Secretary.

Lastly, Joe mentioned we need to get to work on the pistol range. In the next couple board meetings, we are going to start getting serious about it.

For the Good of the Order:Joe mentioned we need more members to run for the board in the Trustee position next year.Dan Barton asked what the board thought the outlook is for the public shooters. Joe believes we will not be in phase 3 until after the election. Dan asked if we should open up even if we are not in phase 3. Joe said it would be risky.
