THE KYRIE - Page 102

THE COLLECT - Fifth Sunday in Lent (Page 164 BCP) Almighty God, you alone can bring in to order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen.

Ash Wednesday Collect (Page 163 BCP) Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

REFLECTION FIRST LESSON: In our Old Testament reading the prophet foresees a new covenant which God will make with the Lord’s own people, a covenant written not on tablets of stone but on human hearts.

1st LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Margo Clarke 9:15a.m. - Michael Hoyte

FIRST LESSON (OLD TESTAMENT): Jeremiah 31:31-34 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, `Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

REFLECTION THE PSALM: A confession of sin and guilt and a prayer for a clean heart.

PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: PSALM: 51. Miserere mei, Deus (7:30a.m. - Page 533 BCP)

1. HAVE mercy upon me, O God, after thy great goodness : according to the multitude of thy mercies do away mine offences. 2. Wash me throughly from my wickedness : and cleanse me from my sin. 3. For I acknowledge my faults : and my sin is ever before me. 4. Against thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight : that thou mightest be justified in thy saying, and clear when thou art judged. 5. Behold, I was shapen in wickedness : and in sin hath my mother conceived me. 6. But lo, thou requirest truth in the inward parts: and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly.

Page 3: The new fisherman march 22nd , 2015

3

7. Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean : thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8. Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness : that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9. Turn thy face from my sins : and put out all my misdeeds. 10. Make me a clean heart, O God : and renew a right spirit within me. 11. Cast me not away from thy presence : and take not thy holy Spirit from me. 12. O give me the comfort of thy help again : and stablish me with thy free Spirit. 13. Then shall I teach thy ways unto the wicked : and sinners shall be converted unto thee. 14. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, thou that art the God of my health : and my tongue shall sing of thy righteousness. 15. Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord : and my mouth shall shew thy praise. 16. For thou desirest no sacrifice, else would I give it thee : but thou delightest not in burnt-offerings. 17. The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit : a broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt thou not despise. 18. O be favourable and gracious unto Sion : build thou the walls of Jerusalem. 19. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, with the burnt-offerings and oblations : then shall they offer young bullocks upon thine altar.

REFLECTION SECOND LESSON: In this New Testament lesson we hear how through his obedience and suffering Christ reached the perfection of his destiny and was designated by God to be the eternal high priest.

2nd LESSON: 7:30a.m. - Sandra Waterman 9:15a.m. - Mothers’ Union

SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: SECOND LESSON: Hebrews 5: (1-4) 5-10 [Every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. Because of this he is bound to offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people. And one does not take the honor upon himself, but he is called by God, just as Aaron was.] So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, "Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee"; as he says also in another place, "Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek." In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard for his godly fear. Although he was a Son, he learned obe-dience through what he suffered; and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

GRADUAL HYMN - 700

REFLECTION THE GOSPEL: In this Gospel passage Jesus presents teaching concerning the meaning of his death. After his prayer to God a voice from heaven is heard. Greeks wish to see Jesus, but he will not draw all others to himself until after he has died and risen. Then, like a seed which falls into the earth, he will bear much fruit. Disciples must also learn to serve Jesus by following him in this way. Now is the hour for the son of man to be glorified—-glorified both by his willingness to be lifted up on the cross to die for others, and afterwards to be lifted up to heaven.

THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: THE GOSPEL: John 12:20-33 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies,

and all who requested our prayers .

it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honor him. "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? `Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify thy name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." He said this to show by what death he was to die.

THE SERMON

HYMN AFTER THE SERMON - 499

THE NICENE CREED - Page 104 Bidding Prayer

Let us pray that Christ shall be glorified in the Church and in the world.

Grant to your servant Church the zeal to bring all people to Christ and to make known his saving sacrifice of himself….Give her power to drive out evil and to find her life in his death and resurrection.

Bless all who work to spread the gospel and offer their lives in its service…Guide the seekers after truth, and lead into the right way those who care only for the pleasures of this world and the satisfaction of their own lives.

Make us willing servants of the faith, helping those around us to find their way and be renewed in the power of Christ….By the power of the Cross may all divisions in our community be mended, and all hurts healed.

Have mercy on all who suffer in body, mind or spirit…May they hear the divine voice of power and comfort, be relieved from their affliction and find new life after loss.

We pray for those who have died to this world…May they grow into the life of heaven where joy is endless and what has been offered on earth comes to perfect fruition.

We pray in the name of Christ, lifted on the Cross for our salvation. Amen.

Whispering Hope

Soft as the voice of an angel, Breathing a lesson unheard, Hope with a gentle persuasion Whispers her comforting word: Wait till the darkness is over, Wait till the tempest is done, Hope for the sunshine tomorrow, After the shower is gone.

Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice, Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

If, in the dusk of the twilight, Dim be the region afar,

Will not the deepening darkness Brighten the glimmering star? Then when the night is upon us, Why should the heart sink away? When the dark midnight is over, Watch for the breaking of day.

Hope, as an anchor so steadfast, Rends the dark veil for the soul, Whither the Master has entered, Robbing the grave of its goal. Come then, O come, glad fruition, Come to my sad weary heart; Come, O Thou blest hope of glory, Never, O never depart.

Smile: A man is walking down the street when he sees another man with a very long pole and a yardstick. He's standing the pole on its end and trying to reach the top of it with his yardstick. Seeing the man's ignorance, the first man wrenches the pole out of his hand, lays it on the sidewalk, measures it with the yardstick, and says, "There! 10 feet long." The second man grabs the yardstick and shouts, "You idiot! I don't care how long it is! I want to know how high it is!"
