we see it in every practice. the increasing demands of daily activities are creating a culture of overweight and obesity. the statistics are startling. More than 2 in 3 U.s. adults are considered to be overweight or obese.1

The Truth Hurtsoverweight and obesity is non-discriminatory. It affects more than 3 in 4 hispanics and blacks, and about 2 in 3 whites are considered overweight or obese.2 And while women more often refer to dieting, Pilates class and skipping dessert, it appears that the men are not mildly serious about watching their waistlines. As we all know, men and women are inherently different in so many ways. And their approach to undergoing cosmetic procedures is no exception.

What do you love about the aesthetic industry?I’ve worked in this industry for the past 20 years, and I love the relationships I’ve established with my customers throughout that time. What separates BTL from competitors, in your opinion?It’s really a great company that is always looking out for the best interests of its customer base…more than other manufacturers in the industry. It’s nice to have a company like that behind me.

How do you create value for your practices?I believe strongly in continued training. If customers are not well-trained, they won’t get the best results. I also have an MBA in marketing, and I believe strongly in the importance of good marketing. At the end of the day, our customers have to make money, so we do a lot of consulting with customers and give them advice to achieve their goals.

For example, I tell my customers that it’s critical to train their front office staff as well as their providers. receptionists as well as front office staff members are the most important people in the office when it comes to converting prospects to customers. If the person who answers the phone can’t answer questions about procedures, callers won’t book

appointments. I did a study of patient calls, and I found that aesthetic office staff members are usually on the phone for 5 minutes with each prospect. If they can’t come across strong in that 5-minute window, the prospect will be lost.

What are your thoughts about the current body shaping market?Body shaping is the next big wave in the industry. even though the marketplace has gotten crowded, only a few products really work, in terms of results and investment for physicians. with all these underwhelming devices, we are continually informing clients on the important factors that they need to focus on when evaluating devices. Cost of ownership is most important.

If you research the history of the aesthetic market, you will see that no product with consumable costs has ever lowered that cost over time. It has always risen! this is directly related to these manufacturers needing to maintain revenue streams to survive and as their capital equipment sales begin to slow, they raise their consumable costs and reduce expenses (all benefits that

they once promoted) to keep their income coming. once you buy a device, you are handcuffed to whatever consumables that come with that device, regardless of how the cost changes over time.

Why do you think it is important to work with a leading company in the aesthetic industry?It is all about relationships! If I sell a device to my customer and the manufacturer of that device does not stand behind it or is no longer supporting that device, my relationship with my customer is damaged. I have to offer good products, with manufacturers who stand behind them and will be around for many years to come, because Monarch and myself will be here for years to come.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?I love to play golf, and fortunately, where I live, I can do it all year long. But unfortunately, due to work and family demands, I don’t get to play that much. I also love to travel and I’ve been all over the world. europe, specifically Italy, is one of my favorite places to visit.

What is the nature of your job at BTL?I’m a service technician, so my job is to help our customers when they have questions or issues with their BtL devices. I primarily take service calls and troubleshoot issues over the phone. If we are unable to resolve the issue, I ship loaner devices to practices and repair their devices when they arrive at our office for service.

I’ve got a knack for fixing mechanical devices, so I was able to learn how to troubleshoot and repair BtL devices rather quickly. I’ve had a lot of practice fixing my own things when I break them!

What would you like BTL’s customers to know about you?I love my job. It probably seems like this would be a difficult role – because I only hear from customers when something goes wrong – but BtL has wonderful customers, and I love being able to help them.when something goes wrong with an aesthetic device, it can be very stressful on a practice. Yet our customers are very patient people, and when I solve problems for them, it’s a great feeling. I’ll often take calls at night or on weekends because I would prefer to fix things right on the spot, sooner rather than later, minimizing any downtime.

How is teamwork part of your job?our field reps and I often work together to fix issues. sometimes I’ll receive a call from one of our field reps who is onsite and needs help troubleshooting a device. this type of teamwork really works well and helps keep our customers up and running.

How do you like working in the aesthetic industry?It is so different from any other industry I’ve worked in. I always thought this industry was all about Botox and fashion shows, but in reality, it’s about physical healing, wellness, and helping people be totally happy with how they look and feel. that changes people’s lives, and it’s great to be a part of that.

What do you do for fun?I love to travel to Maine – I have family there, and I love the outdoors, especially hiking and running. My favorite place in Maine is Jackman. It’s a very small town; in fact, it’s the last town before the Canadian border, with incredible mountains overlooking lakes and rivers. there’s no cell phone service or wIFI, so it’s the perfect place to unplug and unwind.

Gabriel Kreuther’s ReviewAcclaimed as Manhattan’s most beautiful new restaurant and proof that fine dining is not dead, gABrIeL KeUther is the “it” place of the moment. with the opening of his eponymous restaurant, chef gK brings his Alsatian roots to 42nd street across from Bryant Park and is serving up food that has the City buzzing.

earning his expert culinary ranking at the Modern for 10 years, gabriel Keuther imports many of his former genius and touches to the new place, including the pastry chef, a four-course $98 fixed prix format, an impressive wine cellar, and of course, his recipes.

According to a recent review in the new York times, the cooking and dishes here make an irresistible case for the power of classical european techniques, notably French german and swiss disciplines, not to mention “all the blade-flicking and stock-skimming tricks that Mr. Kreuther swings around so easily.”

Dishes come out of the kitchen in a flowing succession of different flavors, sizes and designs. From the amuse bouche, a trio of mini-appetizers and a variety of breads and spreads to the savories, soups, fish and meat entrees, it just gets better and better. For those who enjoy the odd indulgence of duck and goose liver, the foie gras options - a terrine, poached or layered between squab breasts and tied up with cabbage leaves – are a must have. If you can pass up the extraordinary and elegant cheese tray, leave ample room for the refined sweet course. rumor has it that every dessert on the menu is so delicious you’ll be tempted to order another to take home. Make your reservation early and bon appetite!

GK Bistronomie Reviewonce a quiet neighborhood amid warehouses and commercial storage buildings, the warehouse District in Miami is now a hip and trendy arts hub. Best of all, it’s just a hop, skip and jump north from south Beach and downtown along Biscayne Boulevard.

the latest restaurant to appear on the bustling food scene is gK Bistronomie. the Peruvian eatery is run by chef/partner rafael Perez, who has owned four restaurants in ecuador including one named by relais & Chateaux as one of the top 300 restaurants in the world. By all accounts, his timing couldn’t be better as globally inspired Peruvian cuisine is on fire among foodies across the U.s.

According to an eater Miami review, the menu boasts plenty of traditional “artfully plated” Peruvian dishes like ceviches and tiraditos, along with heartier main dishes like the classic rib eye steak. As for libations, it is sticking with the Peruvian theme serving up handcraft Pisco infusions, featuring sours and Chicanos that are simply exquisite. Chef Perez offers fantastic healthy food and incredibly delicious dishes like the crab and avocado app, addictive potatoes and candy thick crème brulee for those not so into the fitness vibe.

the décor of the space blends in well with its artsy neighborhood. white pine tables, indoor-outdoor bars made of black granite and iron, and high ceiling walls are adorned with various works of art, hand-selected by Perez himself.If you are game for a voyage that fuses imaginative food, exotic drinks and an artsy ambiance, reserve a table at gKB and you won’t be disappointed.
