TEVERSHAM PARISH COUNCIL SPRING 2014 Teversham News teversham annual parish meeting MONDAY 28TH APRIL 2014 AT 7.30PM TEVERSHAM PRIMARY SCHOOL HALL Councillors would like to extend a warm welcome to all residents of our parish to come along and meet your Parish Councillors. District Councillor Hunt and County Councillor Williams will also be on hand to answer your questions. PCSO John Coppard will also be present. Remember, if you have any specific queries, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Parish Council or Clerk. We would like to encourage all village groups to give a report of their year’s activities please get in touch with the Clerk asap so we can allocate you a slot on the agenda. Do come along, your thoughts and opinions matter a great deal and your ideas can help shape the future of our parish. Teversham’s Kiosk Library is OPEN It has taken us a while, but with lots of help and kind donations of books, we are delighted that the Kiosk Library on the village green is now open. Congratulations to our competition winners Ozdes and Selim, and thank you to Mr Alan Willis and everyone who came along for the Grand Opening. It was super to see so many of you! Using the Teversham Kiosk Library This phone box has been turned into a mini lending library for the residents of Teversham by Teversham Parish Council. We ask you to use it as often as you like and to respect it as a community service that it is being managed by volunteers for the residents of Teversham. Here’s how it works: Bring along a book of any sort; any book you think villagers might like to read. Then have a look at the books (Children’s books are in the box on the floor) When you’ve found a book that you wish to ‘borrow’, be sure to leave a book of your own in its place or return the one you borrow. The best way you can help is to borrow books from the box regularly. If you have any comments or suggestions, please write them on a PostIt note on the noticeboard for the organisers to have a look at, or email the Clerk [email protected] PAGE 1

TEVERSHAM PARISH COUNCIL! SPRING 2014 !Footpath  Re-‐surfaced  at

Borley  Way  !This   project   is   proof   that   by   getting   in  touch  and  letting  us  know  what  you  think  CAN  make  a  difference.  !The   footpath   going   across   the   play   area  was  uneven,  flooded  when  it  rains  heavily  and   left   a   nasty   yellow   deposit   on   your  shoes.    We  received  complaints  about  the  poor   state   of   the   path   and   set   about  finding   out   the   best   solution   to   address  the  problems.      !It  was  finally  agreed  that  the  path  should  be  re-‐surfaced  with   tarmac  and  the  work  was   recently  completed.    The   footpath   is  now   back   to   its   original   width   and  provides  a  smooth  surface  for  everyone.

So  thank  you  to  those  residents  who  took  the  time  to  write  and  take  photographs  of  the  path  when  it  was  flooded.  !Members   also   agreed   for   a   concrete  apron  to  be  added  in  front  of  the  tea  bar  hatch  at  the  Pavilion,  and  the  entrance  to  the  Recreation  Ground,  High  Street.    This  has  made  an  enormous  difference   to   the  many  people  who  use  this  facility  week  in,  week  out.  !

Bus  Shelter  Refurbishment  Members  discussed  a  letter  received  from  another   resident   regarding   the   state   of  the   bus   shelters   along   Gazelle   Way.     At  their   budget   meeting   for   2014/2015,  members  agreed  to  consider  replacing  the  glazing  in  the  three  shelters  along  Gazelle  Way   and   the   two   along   Cherry   Hinton  Road.    This  will  cost  just  under  £4,500.  !!

You   may   remember,   the   Parish   Council   was  awarded  just  over  £14,000  from  the  development  on   Newmarket   Road   to   spend   on   ‘public   art’.    Councillors   Amrani   and  Martin  worked  with   the  help   of   a   Project   Manager,   Alison   Turnbull,   to  appoint   Charlotte   Howarth   to   create   a   lasting  legacy  for  Teversham.  Charlotte   worked   with   local   schools   and   groups

and   turned   their  i d e a s   a n d  inspiration   into   5  m i l e s t o n e s .    These   have   been  placed   around  the   parish   and  w e   w i l l   b e  h o s t i n g   a n  exciting   event   in  the   near   future  t o   o f f i c i a l l y  launch  them.  Notices   will   be  placed   around  the   pa r i sh   to  adve r t i s e   t he  event,   which   we  hope  will  be  held  in  mid-‐May.

!Outcome  of  the  Public  Sessions  about  the

Proposed  Skate  Park  at  Borley  Way  Play  Area  !

Councillors  were  delighted  that  so  many  of  you  took  the  time   to   come   along   to   the   open   sessions   at   the   Hope  Community  Church  at  the  end  of  February.  !Councillors  were  able   to   speak  with  all  of   the   residents  who   came   along   and   were   hopefully   able   to   address  concerns   raised   about   noise   and   anti-‐social   behaviour.    The   Parish   Council   looked   carefully   at   all   of   the  comments/concerns   raised   for   and   against   the   scheme  and  at  their  March  2014  meeting,   it  was  agreed  to  take  the  project  forward.    The  next  step  is  to  apply  for  a  grant  of   £30,000.     The   Parish   Council   have   earmarked   just  under   £20,000   towards   the   project.     If   our   funding  application  is  unsuccessful,  the  project  may  not  proceed.  !The  parish  council  is  also  in  the  process  of  working  with  the  District  Council  to  ensure  that  the  site  meets  with  all  current  regulations  and  will  keep  residents  updated  with  progress  of  the  project.      !On  display  were  two  concept  designs  to  show  what  type  of   equipment   could   be   installed   in   the   available   space.    Concept   1   was   the   resounding   winner   (with   an   added  grind  rail  from  2).  !!!
