Our new website is soon to go live (you will find our website is currently inactive) and these values will not only form part of the promotion of our school, but frame conversations for students and our school community. Our current values are cooperation, respect, honesty, care, tolerance and trust. These have served the school well, but are not readily acknowledged by our current students and they have suggested moving forward with 3 values aligned to the RED, BLUE and WHITE school colours. Students are articulate and thoughtful when asked for words that represent our school. Our student leaders suggested: respect, strength, kindness, inclusivity, learning, safety and resiliency. Students will continue these discussions in their classes. Staff will also have this discussion. What values would you look for at Modbury West School? Words are powerful, give a whole school focus and send a message of commitment to our community. Please discuss with your family and look out for ways you can add your voice to this discussion. Newsletters are a major form of communication in schools. We as most schools do, ask that families provide an email address to the school, so newsletters can be emailed directly to you each fortnight. As part of the new website you can download the newsletter from the website or the Skoolbag app. Some paper copies are available in the front office. Staff professional learning has centred on Autism Spectrum, the Seven Steps to Writing and the partnership focus this Friday on learning design. Our staff are continuous learners, working on improving outcomes and delivering quality learning opportunities to our students based on evidence and research. Enjoy the long weekend! Kind regards, Sue Wirth Principal VOLUNTEER AND RAN TRAINING The next Volunteering and RAN training session will be at 9:30-11:00 and 1:30-3:00 in M17 on Tuesday 26th June. Gymnastics @ Modbury West School During this Term all our students have been involved in Gymnastics lessons during their PE time. As we

know our students love this program so much, we invited other children from our community to take part in a lesson similar to those of what our students’ experience.

In the last 2 weeks, we have been host to both the Lurra Community Centre children, as well as

Modbury Kindergarten children. Both groups of children were very eager, excited and great participants as they learnt all about the sport Gymnastics. We had the support of many parents, helpers and our

fantastic Year 7 Leaders Kiara R, Latisha W, Sienna G, Codey O, Seth C and William S.

We appreciate the time and effort it takes to organise events like this and would like to thank everyone involved for making this event a reality!

If there are any other community centres or kindergartens who would like to make connections with our

school, please contact Mary at the Front Office on 8265 0900. We are hoping to see more of these community relationships in future!

Thank you, Miss Arnold

PALS LEADERS INTRODUCE

MONDAY FUNDAY!

Play at Lunchtimes (PALS) is a buddy initiative aimed at engaging our students

in play and activities during Lunchtimes. Our successful 19 PALs Leaders went

through an application process to be selected. They were then involved in a

Mentoring Day where they learnt the importance of mentoring, leadership and

how to be role models of our school. After careful planning and practice, we

ran our first PALs session on Monday Week 2 at lunch time and it was a huge

success! The leaders have named this day:

Any Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 Students interested in having fun at lunchtimes,

making some new friends and learning some new skills, make your way to the

Gym Monday Lunchtimes!

Regards, Miss Arnold & your PALS Leaders

2018 District Cross Country

On Friday 11th May, 24 Modbury West students represented our school in the District Cross Country

event held at TK Shutter Reserve, Klemzig.

The event saw over 300 students from over 25 schools.

Huge congratulations to our team who represented our school with pride; by supporting each other,

showing respect to other competitors, as well as finishing with incredible results!

From the event, 4 of our students were selected into the Adelaide North East District Team to race at

State Cross Country Championships in Oakbank on Thursday 7th June.

At Oakbank, they have an opportunity to be selected in the team to represent South Australia!

All the best to Tomia Wintle, Lachie Forbes, Jade Pelton and Tamsyn Nation for the upcoming event

in Week 6 this term.

A big thank you to all the parents and families for their support and assistance throughout the day

and the lead up to this event.

Well done Modbury West team!
