As these changes occur we will immediately communicate them with you. We will continue with regular hand washing, ensuring a plentiful supply of hand sanitiser, wiping over devices after use, additional cleaning staff throughout the day, reminding everyone to cough or sneeze into their elbow and asking children and staff to stay home if unwell. We are still waiting on confirmation about PSSA but will let you know as soon as we have more information. Our existing drop off and pick up arrangements will not change at this point in time. There has been an increase in parents walking into the office without an appointment. While we understand there are times when parents need to make contact with the office, for the safety of our staff and children we ask that you please do this by phone. This also applies to parents who need to speak to a teacher or executive staff member. Teachers have been directed to only hold face to face meetings with parents when the matter is urgent. Parents and carers who do enter the school grounds without an appointment will be politely asked to leave. The only exception to this is visits to the uniform shop in the hall. As we approach the middle of Winter, it is likely that both students and adults may develop colds and viruses. As we have previously stated it is imperative that any child who is sick and/or showing flu like symptoms remain at home. Should a child present to school unwell, parents/carers will be immediately contacted and asked to pick up their child. In addition to this, any teacher who is unwell must also stay at home when they are sick. This means that sometimes classes will have a different teacher. While every effort is made to ensure classes have a teacher, there are times where this is not possible. During this time, students will be split into another class. They will then complete a booklet provided or they may join in with the learning from that class (when age appropriate).

In an attempt to ensure our students are known, valued and cared for, we have started handing out birthday cards for students who have had a birthday. This small gestures hopes to ensure they have a great day and are recognised on (or close to) their special day. The card they receive can then be taken to the canteen where they will get a free Zooper Dooper. Our FriYAY draws have started again where we draw out students who have received raffle tickets or GOTCHA cards in class or on the playground who have been following our school expectations of being safe, kind, proud and respectful. These students are recognised in a morning assembly and also receive a free Zooper Dooper for their great efforts.

As you would be aware, Monday 20th July is a whole school Staff Development Day where staff participate in professional learning. This means that it is a pupil free day. The professional learning organised for the staff is Positive Partnership (Understanding Autism). We will also be listening to a live broadcast from the Secretary of Education (Mark Scott) and Deputy Secretary (Murat Dizdar) in relation to school planning. Positive Partnerships provides staff with knowledge and understanding around Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It will also provide staff with practical strategies to use in the classroom setting to help EVERY CHILD (including those with ASD). We will have a close look at the sensory processing needs of our students and discuss a school action plan. This workshop is the second face to face workshop this year. Staff have also been participating in online training to complement the face to face workshops. These workshops align with Strategic Direction 1: Whole School Approach to Student Wellbeing. As per our school’s motto “learning for Life”, our teachers, just like our students, never stop learning.

The Crunch N Sip program is a highly successful initiative to encourage the children to improve their daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and to drink plenty of water. You can support this initiative by making sure that your child has their “Fruit Break“ snack every day and an extra bottle of water to have available in the classroom.

Does your child remember to bring their hat to school every day? Families are reminded that children need to have a hat to play in the playground with their friends. Children who do not have a hat are required to play quietly under the shelter.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Galea on the safe arrival of baby girl Larissa. We were all very excited to hear this great news. Larissa arrived on 24/6/20, weighing 2.56kgs. Everyone has settled in at home and we look forward to meeting her very soon.

As previously mentioned, in line with advice from the NSW Department of Education, our school reports for Semester One, 2020 will be adjusted to cater for students learning from school and at home. Please be aware that all students may not have covered the same syllabus outcomes or content during this period. This report will not grade student achievement using the A-E scale for all outcomes. The teacher’s comments will focus on English and Mathematics as well as learning that students have undertaken in other KLAs. This report will also provide information about student attendance, their commitment to learning and identify the next steps in learning. This year Semester One reports will handed out on Thursday 30th July.

We are rapidly coming up to the end of Term 2 and what a term it has been. I am so proud of the students, staff and our community for the resilience, determination and positivity that has been demonstrated over the past few months. We have learned so many things during the period of learning from home and our teachers are continuing with many of the positive things that were started in these times. Just a reminder for our community that Term 2 concludes on Friday 3rd July and Term 3 begins for students on Tuesday 21st July 2020.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody in our school community a very happy and safe holiday.
