    Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the V Bellas Artes Interscholastic Model of the United Nations

(BAIMUN 2013). It is a pleasure and an honor to count on your participation,

trusting that this year we will exceed all your expectations, reaching every goal

established as well as showing a high academic level, partnership and

perseverance while discussing and settling the raised issue.

During the 20th century, the government overshadowed the media, which

didnt have laws that defended or supported them, neither technology that helped

disseminate the truth concealed with in the governments from their own citizens.

The real story took months even years to rise, but that all changed in 1990 with the

birth of the Internet, followed by the creation of the social networks, where the

world, in time no longer than a second, could know the truth of what was

happening, creating something never seen before, and giving origin, to the 7 th

    Power.

In recent years the media and the social network have come together and

formed a really strong power, having a great influence on the events that have

been happening around the world, creating in citizens from different countries,

reactions that mark the history of the world, starting with small protests and

finishing with the fall of an entire government.

Taking this into account, the committee of The 7th power or the debate

panel, must approach and debate the topic that has been causing a lot of polemic

the last years: The influence that the media and social network has had over

contemporary revolutions, the relevance that the new technology has in the mediaand in the decisions of the governments and analyze the before and after the 7th

power got its influence and compare them.

Also, it is important to emphasize the evolution of the media in the world

population and its magnitude to the people of each country when it comes to

    media, news and communication.

It is up to the experts and journalist, to debate if this new movement of

power is positive or negative in the eyes of the citizens, that want to know the truth

or had enough of the lies that their government has given to them or from the eyes

of the governments, of a way to control riots, maintain the authority and protect

    their country and their citizens.

    Faithfully,

    Gerardo Quintero, Committees President

TOPIC A: The influence that the

    media and the social networks

    has had over the contemporary

    revolutions.

In the past years, the social

    networks, and the different

    international communication and

    media information sharing has been

    evolving, generating what some

    people call The Technologic

Revolution. Its no secret to anyone

that the countries from the entire

world have been witnesses of this

    evolution through time.

It is important to highlight the

    role that technology and digital

journalism has played in the 20th and

21st century, creating in a particular

    way, an online information sharing

system through the internet where the

users of the different parts of the

world can access to the latest news ina matter of seconds. Also, this

journalism and social media has been

the portal for the possession of

    worldwide information. Every user is

capable of finding the information that

    they require.

    But now days not everything

can be found so easy. In the past

years, the world has watched how

    some politicians, most of them

governments, try to control the media,

    communication sites and information

    distributors to manipulate the

information that could come out to the

world. This, of course, its more visible

in some countries than in others and

for this same reason, revolutions and

    different types of political, ideological

    and public movements have been

started in countries where the citizens

are tired of the media manipulation by

    the government.

    The Revolutions in the world

    and the social networks and

    communication media nowadays are

    delicate subjects to discuss, it

    requires professionals who have

worked in the field and know theintegrity and ethic of the journalism in

    the 21st

    century.

    That is why, this committee

was designed: For the discussion and

IV BAIMUN:Bellas Artes Interscholastic Model of United NationsPanel Debate

    _______________________________________________________________________________

debate of the pros and the contras of

this situation that the world is living

nowadays. Also, the discussion ofother topics and subjects that conform

what it is the journalism and the

freedom of speech and information all

around the world, to ensure that its

validation and credibility its not lost

and to ensure a debate with people

from different points of view, to get

the maximum opinions as possible in

order to let the debate flow and to get

to the conclusion of whether is it bad

or is it good to let the social networks

be part of the everyday information

obtain and the nations primary source

    of news to the world.

So each one of the delegates

must adopt the character of a

professional in the area, whether it is

an important journalist or the CEO of

    an important social network. And

    discuss it within the debate,

    considering the ideals, political

    opinions and different aspects that

each one of the specialists has in

    their day-by-day articles and live.

    TOPIC B: The effect and

    consequences that cyber

    bullying and cyber stalking has

    had over teenagers and Internet

    users in the 21st century.

Day by day the world and

specially the Internet universe is witness

of the atrocities and the different cases

that this two situations causes. Multiple

individuals have been victims of cyberbullying and cyber stalking, bringing as

    consequence negative changes in the

    victims personality and social

    development.

As a matter of fact, the Internet

works as a way to communicate, share

    experiences and different things about

peoples lives. But some of these users

have taken the Internet as a way to

disturb other users, just for fun or other

purposes. It is no secret that multiple

victims have been so affected by these

users or as they call them bullies or

stalkers that some of them have taken

suicide as an option and taken their lives

because of the harassment they suffer bythese malicious users.

Over the past years, this subject

has been an important point in the

discussion of the pros and contras of the

internet and its regulation, but in the

period of 2010-2012, with all the social

    communication evolution, this activities

    and different malicious intentions have

evolved into something so influential in

some peoples lives, that they seek for

    professional help against these bullies.

    Organizations and movements

have taken place all around the world to

stop this actions, helping the different

types of victims and affected users of the

    internet, guaranteeing safety and

    protection against these internet users.

    But lately, the controversy about

this theme has gone stronger; the case of

a young teenager, named Amanda Todd.

Who killed herself because of the actions

that some bullies took against her and her

integrity, it has become a headliner in the

worlds news and hopefully, it also hasbecome a warning, that if this stalking

continues, there will be more victims

affected just like in the past years.

    The different professionals and

specialists that were invited to the

discussion panel in the 7th power, have

the responsibility to discuss this subject,

studying its consequences, and whatshould be done by the internet and

communication world in order to protect

and stop the internet stalking and

    bullying.
