The Business for Peace Foundation annually names honourees for the Oslo Business for Peace Award in recognition of business persons who, “through their

own actions and commitments truly are business worthy, promoting socially responsible and ethical

business practice in an outstanding way, and standing out as examples to the world.” Accepting the award on

his birthday, Merrill J. Fernando spoke of his parents’ influence on the values that govern his businesses

today and paid tribute to the quality of Ceylon Tea as the foundation of his success with Dilmah Tea. In a

heartwarming gesture, all 900 guests at the ceremony sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to the Dilmah Founder.

Dilmah Founder Merrill J. Fernando received the prestigious Business for Peace Award on the 6th of May 2015, in Oslo’s most famous building, the City Hall, where the Nobel Prize is awarded annually. The public ceremony was attended by Per L. Saxegaard, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Business for Peace Foundation, and Stian Berger Røsland, Governing Mayor of Oslo.

8 years from its inception to revolutionise the way the world looked at afternoon tea, the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge presented 21 national winners from 14 countries who travelled to Sri Lanka to compete for the ultimate titles of the Dilmah Real High Tea Global Champion.

revolution was well and alive with teams creating exceptional high tea presentation incorporating

culinary artistry and modern mixology all inspired by Dilmah Tea. The New Zealand team Museum Art Hotel

were declared Global Champions and received the exquisite Leaf & Artisan Trophy. Hong Kong Cricket

There is no spice as alluring, mysterious and sensual as Ceylon Cinnamon or True Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Verum). It’s a fine, delicate product, which uses the inner bark and is manually layered to produce a quill similar to a Havana cigar. The hand crafted process is time consuming and very traditional using methods and tools unchanged for hundreds of years to date. The aroma is sweeter and less harsh than its counterpart Cassia.

A powerful tea from our Rilhena Estate in the Ratnapura region, exhibiting twisted, dark brown leaf. When infused the tea evolves into a chocolate coloured infusion with a piquant and lightly smoky aroma. The amber liquor that is produced offers a robust and very unusual tea; smoked gently over the embers of Cinnamon wood for three days after fermentation, the tea has a pleasing smoky character with a hint of spicy, sweetness that is the result of the use of Ceylon Cinnamon in smoking the tea. A rare tea that ranks as an equivalent of a fine Islay Malt Whisky.
