Gown Guide

Fashion Forward Gown Guide 2016 | By Ronda M. Parag

TThe bridal gown sets the stage and focus for the entire weddingday. Whether the bride likes classic or modern, there is the perfectgown for each blushing bride. Shopping and deciding on the perfectdress can be extremely stressful. “Go with your gut,” says AshleyWest, Regional Sales Manager for The White Magnolia BridalCollection located in Tampa. “Say Yes to the Dress” is not real life –you don’t have to try on 100 wedding gowns, you don’t have to havea huge group of people, and you don’t have to cry when you find theone! After doing this for over 5 years, I can say that every single girlhas a different reaction when she finds the dress – some cry, yes, butsome giggle, some jump up and down, and some don’t have a wholelot of emotion at all. Whether it’s your 2nd dress or 20th dress, if itfeels right deep down – that’s it. You only get one “first time” beingzipped into your wedding gown, so don’t feel the need to try on100 more gowns if you know you’ve found the one. Embrace themoment and rejoice in that special time. Pop the bubbly and thenmove on to the next big task on your wedding to do list.”

Like each fashion season, bridal gowns change too, with eachseason including florals, separates, overlay skirts, plunging necklines, feathers and off-the-shoulder gowns on trend for 2016. DesignerMonique Lhuillier is also showing a light blue hue in her gownsthis season. Tiered skirts showing flowing layers of silk, tulle andorganza showed up on the runways of many designers’ collection.

“Bridal designers are officially throwing caution to the windwhen it comes to their designs,” says Megan Bubalo, owner ofMalindy Elene Bridal in Tampa. “More colors, textures, cut outs, plunging necklines and detailed backs were shown this year thanever before. It’s been slowly progressing towards a more fashionforward and less traditional wedding day look and this year it wasseen the most.”

Lace and floral embellishments continue to add romance to thebridal gown. Regardless of the neckline, a strapless sweetheartneckline can be adorned with dimensional floral appliqués. For thewhimsical bride, the feather trend added glamor to the bridal gown, from a full feather skirt or just a touch at the waist or neckline.Keyholes and long slits were extremely popular this season onbridal gowns. Designers show of skin allows a bride to playpeekaboo with her dress.

“Luckily, lace is still super prominent and keeping that traditionalbridal moment alive,” says Bubalo. “Designers really want girls tofeel like a bride and feel like themselves. They’re adding even moresubtle differences to their gowns to really give them personality anda unique factor that so many girls are looking for!” TBW
