371The number of college degrees earned by Family Scholar House participants.

Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2017

The Internet is filled with quotes about learning and quite a few that link learning to fun. One of my favorites is from author and physician, Charles Alfred Mercier, who is quoted as saying,

Learning, fun and play are frequent topics at Family Scholar House as we are not only working with adult scholars, we are also helping their children start out on a solid path of educational success. We recognize that play is a very effective way for children (of all ages) to explore, experience and learn new things.

It is in that spirit that we offer you this annual report, conceptualized by one of the very talented children of Family Scholar House. Deveric Jones, son of FSH graduate Maria Patterson-Wilson, has captured the fun that comes with challenging your mind through creative play while also incorporating all of the important things that we want you to know about the past year’s activities and outcomes.

Take a moment to play a game, answer a riddle, work the crossword puzzle, find the hidden words or color our financial

graph. We hope that as you play along, you learn some new things about Family Scholar House.

Unscramble each of the clue words.Take the letters that appear in shaded boxes and unscramble them for the final message.

ANSWER: Bounce the ball

ANSWER: History - because it is full of dates!ANSWER: Because he was an undercover cop

Number of our youngest scholars that attended basketball camp this summer. Thank you to every-one that made it possible, for our children to make memories that will surely last a lifetime.

Healthy Me! I will be, and my choices are key! I eat five colors everyday So I can skip the screen to run and play! Sugary drinks can make me slow So it is for water that I always go! To be the best I can be, It is 5-2-1-0 for me!

At Family Scholar House, our children recite the poem above to remind them, to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, have 2 hours or less of screen time, at least 1 hour of physical activity and 0 servings of sugary drinks!
