From the production of steel as raw material tothe manufacturing of sucker rods, the entireprocess takes place in Tenaris’s manfacturingcenters. Within these plants, Tenaris producesthe BlueRodTM premium sucker rods for beampumping, the HolloRodTM Series and X-Torquerods for progressive cavity pumping and theentire line of API sucker rods. They efficientlyrespond to extreme conditions such as highloads, corrosive environments and applicationswhere tubing-rod friction control is required.

The solutions offered cover from applicationengineering designs and failure analysis tohandling procedures and installation in wells.

Products are manufactured according to API11B Standards in Villa Mercedes facilities, SanLuis, Argentina and in Pindamonhangaba,Brazil. The quality system bears ISO 9001:2000and API Q1 certifications. API products aremonogrammed under 11B-0020 and 11B-0067licenses in the plants.

To answer our customers’ request, we haveinaugurated a new mill in Veracruz, Mexico thatallows us to increase sucker rods capacity andprovide more flexible production times.

Along with the products, associated servicesare offered through a team of professionalswho provide specialized technical assistanceduring field operations.

With our permanent commitment to add valuethrough services, we provide our customers withjust-in-time delivery of the full range ofproducts, stock management of new and usedmaterials, delivery and inspection at well, andthe recovery of used material by means of a widenetwork strategically located around the world.

Products and services

Experienced field engineers are on hand to assessour customers’ operations in the field in order toimprove all aspects related to the sucker rod string:

• Training in sucker rods handling and strings set-up. • Rod string design optimization.• Just-in-time delivery.• Technical assistance during field operations.• Integral analysis of field interventions and

diagnosis (material optimization service).

High Strength Rods

Tenaris manufactures high strength sucker rodsfrom quality steel bars to be used in high-flowwells. They are produced in rod body diameterswhich range from 5/8” to 1 1/2”.

Tenaris products meet the most stringentrequirements for greater mechanical strength, thus ensuring quality performance in deep wellswith very high loads. There are three optionsthat vary depending on the chemicalcomposition and heat treatment:

ULTRA HIGH STRENGTH (UHS) ROD

• Manufactured in AISI 4330 Mod. alloy steel, with nickel-chrome and molybdenum.

• Heat treatment: normalized and tempered.• Recommended for non-corrosive wells with very

high loads.

HIGH RESISTANCE CRITICAL SERVICE (MMS-NR)

• Manufactured in AISI 4138 Mod. steel to providehigh mechanical strength. Compared with AISI4330 steel, it offers more resistance to sulphidestress cracking. Produced from a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with no nickel.

• Heat treatment: normalized and tempered.• Recommended for deep well applications with

high loads. Corrosion inhibition is suggested toimprove performance.

PLUS ROD

• Manufactured in AISI 1530 Mod. steel.• Heat treatment: quenched external surface

while the core remains un-tempered. Theexternal martensitic layer creates a permanentstate of compression in the rod’s surface, which results in high resistance to fatigue.

• Recommended for deep well applications withhigh flow rates effectively inhibited.

COUPLINGS

Manufactured from

seamless steel pipes

produced by Tenaris.

PONY RODS

In compliance with the same qualityrequirements applicable to the rods, pony rodsmeasuring 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 feet are availablefor each steel grade and rod body diameter.Other lengths are also manufactured inaccordance with customers’ specifications.

SINKER BARS

Used to maintain an optimized string design in beam pumping applications and to avoidpremature failures in the installation. Veryeffective for reducing failures in rod body, pinsand coupling, which occur due to the effect of compression and buckling in the string.Sinker bars are manufactured in diameters from 1 1/4” to 1 5/8” in steel grades according to API standard.

COUPLINGS

Tenaris offers a complete line of couplings forsucker rods, polished rods, subcouplings as wellas guided couplings. They are available inreduced slim hole (SH) diameters as well asnormal full size (FS) for both API (T and SprayMetal) and high strength versions (UHS).

Spray Metal Couplings

Spray Metal is a superficial hardening processin which a nickel, chrome, boron and siliconbased powder is applied on the base metal andlater melted, resulting in a hard, dense anduniform surface with a very low frictioncoefficient and high corrosion resistance. TheSpray Metal (SM) version is available for bothconventional and polished rods in slim hole(SH) and full size (FS) diameters.

Guided Couplings

Tenaris produces guided couplings for beampumping and progressive cavity pumping (PCP).They can be injected with material to workunder high or low temperatures.

AccessoriesTenaris offers a wide range of high quality products to complete the rod string and increase its lifespan and performance.

ROD GUIDES

Tenaris has a wide range of rod guides andmaterials for both beam pumping andprogressive cavity pumping. Rod guides aremolded directly on the rod body, becoming atrue protection for the tubing and for the roditself. Available in different materials for variedfluid conditions as well as for high and lowbottom-hole temperatures.
