Introduction

Steelcase was founded in 1912 by a few people with a strong commitment to integrity and doing the right thing for their customers, employees, business partners, associates and neighbors.

Steelcase is a global, publicly traded company leading our industry with fiscal 2012 revenue of approximately $2.75 billion and nearly 10,000 employees worldwide.

During fiscal year 2013, Steelcase Inc. reported a net income of $38.8 million, or $0.30 per share. Despite goodwill impairment charges and restructuring costs that reduced earnings by well over half, core operating performance continued to improve. Sales rose for a third consecutive year, to $2.9 billion.

Steelcase has recently focused efforts on producing new product lines like the Gesture chair, the V.I.A.™ architectural portfolio and further expanded its Coalesse® brand into European markets.

On its 101st year anniversary, Steelcase launched a new Innovation Center at its headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This center will serve as a global hub for the design and engineering teams to spark more insight-driven innovation.

Internationally, Steelcase partners with Arzu, a non-profit organization that empowers Afghan women weavers by providing rent-to-own looms and materials to craft rugs. Weavers must sign a contract to take literacy classes and send their children to school until the age of 15.

Steelcase partners with 2Fysh to produce hand-made slipcovers, providing wages and sustained employment for the widowed and single women in Kenya who make them, and are desperately trying to improve their lives.
