People – Ownership/Privatization

In 1988, as a prelude to eventual privatization of airports the Australian Government formed The Federal Airports Corporation (FAC) to manage Australian Civil Federal Airports as self-supported commercial entities.

The airport was officially privatized in 1997, when Westralia Airports Corporation Pty Ltd (WAC) paid $639 million ($AUD) to operate the airport under a 99-year lease.
