Pope Francis tells us that Lent is a new beginning, a path towards continual conversion of the heart. We hope that you will join with us in this journey of prayer and reflection. On Sunday, March 1st , the Catholic Schools in the Upper Ohio Valley (from Wheeling to Weirton) will gather together for a Lenten Reflection. This collaborative ministry will include choir members from each of the schools….one voice, on a journey together. Readings, narratives, and opportunities for reflection will encourage those in attendance to pray and think about the importance of Lent as a time to transform minds and hearts. This Lenten Reflection is open to all school families, parishioners, neighbors and friends throughout the community. What a beautiful way to journey through Lent and ignite the HOPE in our hearts for a blessed Easter season.

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT UPDATE: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul-St. Mary’s Conference, Elm Grove, had another busy and very productive year of service in 2019. Society members

made 296 visits to those calling our help line and thus were able to directly assist 978 individuals. Society members and helpers, all lay volunteers, gave from their time a reported total of 895 hours of service. They also gave an estimated 4,478 driving miles to assist the Society and its work. These numbers show a marked increase over those reported for 2018. With these efforts, the Society dispersed almost $25,500.00 in assistance to those we serve – the poor, the needy and the marginalized in our community area. In addition to these efforts was our amazingly successful bed ministry. With beds made available to the Society from hotel/motel operations, college/university sources, and Individual donations as well as beds purchased directly with donations, we were able in 2019 to provide 196 beds for 135 families in our community area. We did this with the gracious help of our volunteer truck drivers and their friends. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and its service outreach depend entirely upon volunteers and donations. The Church community is ex-tremely generous in providing volunteers to work with the Society. It is also the financial generosity of our community that makes all this outreach possible. Poor Box collections, Thrift Store distributions, some small grants and individual donations constitute by far the largest portion of the Society’s financial resources that enable us to provide our services. These services include food vouchers with Riesbeck’s, help with utility issues, rent assistance, gasoline for transportation, beds and bedding supplies as needed, emergency assistance and other similar services to those folks on society’s margins who have legitimate needs. We can only express a humble “Thank You” and “May God Bless You” to our community for your exceptional commitment. Our Society of St. Vincent de Paul asks for your continued prayers and for your continued financial support. We need you!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Knights of Columbus Council 504 of Wheeling held a membership drive in the parish last month. If we missed

you and you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Brian Gordon at [email protected] to obtain an application or for more information. Baby Bottle Campaign: Members of the Knights of Columbus, Council 504, will be distributing baby bottles in the vestibule of the Church after all Masses this weekend. This campaign raises thousands of dollars for the Gabriel Project each year. We ask you to pick up a bottle, fill it with loose change, and return it to church on Palm Sunday, April 5th. Thank you for your generosity!
