What can bolster our faith is that even when Christ calls us to face bravely the tempests of life, if we are walking through them with our eyes fixed on him in faith, we have nothing to fear. Even when we falter or sink, simply crying “Lord, save me!” is enough to help us know the steady grasp of God’s hand. PASTOR’S COLUMN

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - August 13 Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. — Psalm 85:12

Holy Day of Obligation. Masses: 6:30 & 8:30 a.m. & 7 p.m.

HEALING MASS AT SAINT JOHN THE EVANGE-LIST: A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from Rev. Stanley T. POLTORAK; pastor of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish (located at 4123 Robertson Av-enue, Sacramento) who asked me if our parish, Saint John the Evangelist, was willing to house the Healing Mass that has been there for several years. I have been to a few Heal-ing Masses when Father Bosco came to visit us here from Louisiana. It was a wonderful experience as many who par-ticipated were pleased with the service. This Healing Mass was started at Saint Philomene church by Msgr. Patrick M. Nolan when he was pastor of that church. Msgr. Patrick passed away on December 7, 2006. When Msgr. Patrick retired, one of his succesor pastors didn’t want to keep the Healing Mass at St. Philomene and that is how it was moved to Presentation Parish when Father An-drew A. Koziczuk was pastor there. The healing Mass has been celebrated there since then. Now it is time to move on and it is coming to us. I am excited. Father Alban UBA who is in residence here at Saint John the Evangelist has been celebrating this mass at Presentation parish for many years now. I hope that all of you dear pa-rishioners know him since he does celebrate one Mass every weekend and at least two weekday Masses every week. This Mass will be celebrated every 3rd Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m., starting with September this year. It could take the place of the regular Sunday Mass if you choose because the readings are the same ones used at the Sunday Masses. There will be no need for Father Uba to drive anywhere and some of you who were going before, will have the service here. You can invite a friend or a relative for the Mass. Who knows what God can do? I asked Father Uba and Father Stanley how many people come to this mass; they both said at least 40 to 50 peo-ple. We don’t need to heat or cool the big church, the chap-el will be used for this purpose. Like any regular Mass, help will be needed such as Eucharist Ministers especially for the precious Blood, to prepare and put away chalices, altar serv-ers, ushers, etc. In the past, a lady by the name of Maureen Bradshaw used to help set up this Mass, since the beginning, but now has a health issue. She needs some major surgeries and it may take a long time to resume her duties. Mean-while, a lady by the name of Mary Farnsworth has been singing for this Mass and she is willing to continue the same for free. If you feel you can help in any way, please call the office at Saint John the Evangelist and leave a message to my extension, 111. God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO

Students in SJE School 7th & 8th grade classes will hold a Car Wash on August 20. They are trying to raise money for their spring 2018 trip to Washington DC. Drop your car off and have it washed while you pray in church! The Car Wash is free, although donations will be accept-ed and greatly appreciated. Students and parent chaper-ones will be available before and after all Masses on Sun-day from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Please come by and get your car washed and support our parish students! Melissa at 628-6692. Thank you.

Please accept our sincerest thank you for your donations that you make every week. You make it possible for us to keep our doors open and to spread the word!

The Homeless Youth are in need of school supplies. SJE, in union with HART of Carmichael, has offered to start gathering basic necessary items that the children need (paper, binders, backpacks, etc). Blue bins will be located in the Church Narthex for donations. Thank you!

Staggering Fact: In a 2016 report all the homeless students in the local school district were counted and there were 3,100 students in grades K-12. Some of these students moved during the school year and at the end of the school year there were 3,000 re-maining in this category. For most these students being homeless takes several forms. It could mean constantly moving from one place to another or living in their cars. These children are our future and they need our help to break this cy-cle thru education and being part of a caring communi-ty. Let's work together to help them survive. There are blue bins in the narthex for donations of school supplies for these boys and girls. thank you to those who have already contributed and the bins will remain for the foreseeable future.

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Holy Day of Obligation. It will be celebrated on August 15 at 6:30 & 8:30 a.m. & 7 p.m.
