Sunday June 5 Change in Mass time

On Sunday, June 5 we will be cancelling the 11:00 a.m. Mass and the 12:30 p.m. Mass in the church for this day only, and invite eve-ryone to join together for one large bilingual Mass on the SJM field beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Our annual PARISH PICNIC celebrating the feast day of St. Justin Martyr and the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will begin on the field after the Mass.

The Catholic Cemeteries is providing a pre-need planning pro-gram for Catholic families in Orange County. Family burial ar-rangements are among the most important and inevitable deci-sions a Catholic must make. Jubilee Year of Mercy. Solemnity of Pentecost Announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis challenged us to proclaim God’s mercy “to everyone without exception . . . again and again, with new enthusiasm and renewed pastoral ac-tion” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). Pentecost proclaims that the door locked for fifty days is thrown open at last. No longer closed in on itself, the community speaks to crowds from different backgrounds, distant lands, exotic languages. Everyone hears their native language. The Spirit does not restore Babel’s uniformity, but forges

unity-in-diversity of language, race, nationality—embracing all without exception. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pentecost’s Spirit summons us afresh from mediocrity and isolation to share God’s mercy with the world. “This is our mission!” Francis exclaims. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION "Order" and "presbyter" are not everyday words in our vocabulary,

since we think of order as a quality of life rather than a collective noun, and "priest" usually does just fine in everyday conversation. Yet each word has deep roots in our tradition. At an ordination we select men for service to the community. Ordo is a Latin word drawn not from pagan religious life but from Imperial Rome. It meant a distinct body standing apart from the peo-ple, such as a body of people responsible for civil governance, senators for example. Think of the selectmen or board of governors in your civic home, and you will get the idea. The church borrowed the term to describe the place of certain people within the people of God, thus the "order of dea-cons," "the order of presbyters," and even "the order of virgins, catechu-mens, widows, neophytes, penitents," and so on, as distinct groups within the church.

Just as ancient Rome had various uniforms for the ranks and stations in civil life, so too did certain garments give clues to membership in an "order" in the church. So, our tradition favors the idea of an ordination lit-urgy not as receiving something so much as being received. This is clearly expressed in the liturgy. The "kiss of peace" is given only by the ordaining bishop and priests to the newly "ordained," not by the faithful, the deacons, or the concelebrating bishops who are present. --Rev. On the weekend of May 21-22, all people of the Diocese of Orange will have the opportunity to donate to the Parishes in Collaboration Collection. This collection is for the purpose of assisting parishes in the Diocese of Orange that exhibit ongoing needs that cannot be paid for by their ordinary income and have urgent needs (such as repairs and main-tenance).

All money donated to this collection is put into a restricted fund that will be administered by a group consisting of laity and clergy of the diocese. Parishes with needs as stated above will apply for grants from this fund to be used for their specific needs.

By participating in the Parishes in Collaboration Collection, we are helping one another support the works of our parishes that struggle financially. Envelopes are in the pews.

The Fullness of the Holy Spirit The church wakes up to an amazing message

this morning. Look around and see who has been called. Listen to the voices of those who proclaim Jesus is Lord. You'll find no race of people left out; you'll find no language on earth unfit to proclaim the glory of God. We call Pentecost Sunday the "birthday of the church." In many ways, the church is still being born. Only when we all know the peace Jesus offered in today's Gospel will we really know the fullness of the Holy Spirit. St. Paul assures us in today's second reading that "all of us have been given to drink of the one Spirit." When we look around us in the church we should see everyone. But we don't. Not yet. Año Jubilar de la Misericordia Solemnidad de Pentecostés

Al anunciar el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia el Papa Francisco nos desafía a proclamar la misericordia de Dios “a todos, sin excluir ningu-no . . . una vez más con nuevo entu-siasmo y con una renovada acción pastoral” Misericordiae Vultus, 12). Pentecostés proclama que la puerta cerrada por cincuenta días finalmen-te se abre. No más encierro en sí misma, la comunidad habla a las multitudes con diferentes orígenes, de tierras lejanas, exóticos lugares. Cada uno los escucha en sus leguas nativas. El Espíritu no restaura la

uniformidad de Babel, pero fragua la unidad en la diversidad del idioma, de la raza, de la nacionalidad, incluyendo a todos sin ex-cepción. Durante este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, el Espíritu de Pentecostés nos convoca de nuevo desde la mediocridad y la soledad para compartir la misericordia de Dios con el mundo. “¡Esta es nuestra misión!” lo dice el Papa Francisco. “Se nos dio el don del ‘idioma’ del Evangelio y el ‘fuego’ del Espíritu Santo, para proclamar a Jesús resucitado, vivo y presente en medio de nosotros y para alentar los corazones de las personas, acercándolas a Jesús, el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida” (Rezo del Regina Coeli, Domingo de Pentecostés, 24 de mayo de 2015). —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. Reflexiones para la homilía A veces las palabras se vacían de tanto usarlas mal. A veces

son las acciones las que, a fuerza de repetirlas, se convierten en rutinarias y aburridas. Parece como si a todo se le hubiera escapa-do el alma, el espíritu. En otros momentos, es todo lo contrario. De pronto una palabra suena totalmente nueva, llena de sentido; algo la anima y es normalmente una relación especial con alguien. Las palabras no suenan igual en labios de las personas que significan algo para nosotros que en las que nos son indiferentes.

Algo así ocurre en Pentecostés. Cuando el Espíritu revela toda la fuerza del amor de Dios, es como si nunca se hubieran escuchado palabras como amor, salvación, don. El Espíritu llena de fuerza no solo las palabras, que cada uno comprende en su pro-pio idioma, sino toda la vida. El Espíritu llena de fuego y de va-lentía a quienes habían estado asustados. Los discípulos del Señor no vieron al Espíritu sino en una experiencia como de viento y lenguas de fuego.

En nuestras comunidades, cuando el Espíritu de verdad está presente, no solo se trata de palabras, gestos hermosos o senti-mientos fuertes, sino que todo eso se traducirá en un lenguaje de obras de amor para los demás. Se traducirá en la fuerza de un amor que sobrepasa toda dificultad y dolor, y llena de fuerza y valentía. No será cosa de un momento, sino que tendrá los frutos del Espíri-tu: amor, bondad, mansedumbre, fortaleza, paciencia, perseveran-cia y, sobre todo, alegría.

Para la reflexión: ¿Suenan igual las palabras cuando las pronun-cian personas muy significativas para mí? ¿Se puede decir que en mi corazón, en mi familia y en mi comunidad habita el Espíritu de la paz, la paciencia, la bondad, la mansedumbre y la alegría?

Reflexiones Sobre la Palabra …La fuerza del Espíritu

Hechos 2:1-11 Pentecostés era una de las fiestas más importantes del calendario judío; al principio era una fiesta de agricultores, pero más tarde se convirtió en la celebración de la entrega de las tablas de la Ley a Moisés en el Sinaí; para esta ocasión, muchos judíos de todas las regiones iban en peregrinación a Jerusalén. La entrega de la Ley toma en este día de Pentecostés, otro significado: el de la entrega del Espíritu, que señala una nueva alianza. Todos escuchaban a los apóstoles hablar en su propia lengua; y no es que ellos hablaran todas las lenguas simultáneamente, sino que el Espí-ritu daba a entender el mensaje a todos desde su propia lengua y cultura. Corintios 12:3B-7, 12-13 Pablo se enfrenta a otro problema que tenía la comunidad de Corinto: las rivalidades, celos y rencillas a causa de los diversos dones espirituales —carismas— que los cristianos habían recibido y que ejercitaban tanto en el seno de la comunidad como hacia afuera. Juan 20:19-23 En esta escena central de las apariciones, Jesús se revela a los discípulos como el mismo que sufrió y murió mostrán-doles las llagas de su pasión. Los discípulos se alegran al verle; pero cuando Jesús habla, se presenta como un ser divino que los bautiza con el Espíritu Santo haciéndoles una nueva creación y confiándoles su misión. Nuestra cultura: Muchas veces nos cuesta hacernos entender en este país, pero hay gestos y acciones que no necesitan palabras ni idiomas; es el lenguaje del servicio y del amor. ¿Cuántas veces hemos tenido cosas que hacer pero no tenemos el ánimo ni la mo-tivación para hacerlo? ¿Cuántas veces hemos visto matrimonios venirse abajo, porque la pareja que perdió el amor que se tenían uno al otro no tenía las ganas de luchar por salvar su matrimonio? La debilidad de nuestro espíritu nos dice cuánto necesitamos del Espíritu de Dios. El Espíritu de Dios nos brinda amor, verdad, perdón, alegría y paz sin importar las circunstancias; y es solo con el Espíritu de Dios que salimos adelante en las situaciones difíciles donde tenemos que vivir alejados de nuestras familias y hogares.

El fin de semana del 21 y 22 de mayo de 2016, todas las personas de la Diócesis de Orange tendrán la oportunidad de donar a la Colecta de Parroquias en Colaboración. Esta colecta tiene el fin de ayudar a las parroquias de la Dióce-sis de Orange que presentan necesidades que no pueden ser cubiertas por sus ingresos ordinarios y tiene necesidades urgentes (como reparaciones y manteni-miento).

Todo el dinero donado a esta colecta se pone en un fondo restringido que será administrado por un grupo de laicos y clero de la diócesis. Parroquias con necesidades como se indicó anteriormente aplicarán para subvenciones de este fondo que se utilizará para sus necesidades específicas. Más recientemente la Comisión se ha concentrado en conceder asistencia para proyectos de seguridad incluyendo la emergencia eléctrica y reparaciones de plomería.

Participando en la Colecta de Parroquias en Colaboración, todas las per-sonas de la Diócesis de Orange están ayudando mutuamente apoyar los trabajos de nuestras parroquias que luchan económicamente.

VEN, ESPIRITU SANTO, Y ENCIENDE EN NUESTROS CORAZONES EL FUEGO DE TU AMOR!

*Ese amor que nos haga ir saliendo de nuestro egoísmo, de nuestros cálcu-los mezquinos, de nuestras prudencias humanas, de nuestros intereses per-sonales…… *Ese amor que nos haga entregarnos a Dios y, por Dios, a nuestros herma-nos hombres y mujeres. *Ese amor que hará de todos nosotros los católicos, buenos “samaritanos” en las rutas pérdidas de los demás humanos. *Ese amor para que todos hagamos florecer el Espíritu y el Fuego de Dios a la sombra de las cruces del mundo….. *Ese amor para que todo el mundo pueda decir de nosotros los católicos “miren como se aman” y como aman a los demás. *Ese amor que tiene que hacernos a todos más de Cristo y más de Dios.

USA TUS SENTIDOS Usa tus ojos…..para ver la belleza de la vida, o para ver el interior de las personas. No los uses para criticar maliciosamente de cómo se ven o se visten los demás, o para juzgar a las personas solo por sus apariencias. Usa tus oídos……para escuchar a tu prójimo y poder ofrecerle una palabra de aliento; para escuchar los sonidos agradables que te ayudan a olvidar las dificultades y edificar tu interior. No los uses como un arma, o para en-venenar a los demás, creando cizañas con lo escuchado. Usa tu olfato…..para percibir el olor de las flores, del perfume, del amor. No lo impregnes con los malos olores, como lo son el odio, el egoísmo, la traición. Usa tu gusto….para saborear el triunfo de tus metas alcanzadas; de los logros obtenidos con esfuerzo y dedicación. No lo uses para saborear las derrotas de otros, cuando algo les sale mal. Usa tu tacto…..para sentir y dar amor. Para tocar a las personas con tus deseos positivos, y con tu caridad. No lo uses para pedir injustificada-mente, o para golpear sin piedad. ¡El Sexto Sentido, el más importante…..Es el que nos da la sabiduría para distinguir la diferencia entre los otros sentidos; entre el bien y el mal, entre dar o recibir, entre salvar o matar. ¡A veces miramos sin ver; oímos sin escuchar; olemos sin percibir; proba-mos sin saborear; tocamos superficialmente! ¡Usa tus sentidos sabiamente; no se trata de cuantos tengas, sino de cómo los utilizas! “Para ser exitoso, no tienes que hacer cosas extraordinarias, haz cosas ordinarias, extraordinariamente bien” Dios Nos Bendice……..
