RCIA InstructionsTo Be Offered at St. Florian

Becoming a Catholic TodayThe media continues to report stories of how the Christianreligion is experiencing a decrease in the numbers intheir membership. It is worth noting that the CatholicChurch in the United States gains more new membersevery year than any other religion. Last year, in theArchdiocese of Chicago alone, 507 catechumens werereceived into the Church at Easter Vigils. An additional1063 adults completed the sacraments of initiation(Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation) during theEaster season.

What is RCIA?The Rite ofChristian Initiation ofAdults is a program bywhich the Catholic Church welcomes new members intoits communal life. The RCIA program is a living experienceof the church, and NOT just a series of classes to teachyou about Christianity. There are dis-cussions about thefacts of the faith. These sessions are only one part of theexperience of living the faith. This program allows youto learn and share with others who are on the same journey-- living the faith with members of the Church. For moreinformation about the RCIA program, please contact therectory at (773) 646-4877.

RCIA - The Right ofChristian Initiation for AdultsThese sessions provide information for adults who wishto become Catholic. Baptized Catholics who have notreceived the sacraments are also invited to attend thesesessions as well as anyone who would like to knowmore about the Catholic faith.

Watch for more information in upcoming bulletins!

Year of Sacraments • One Word at a Time

Jesus said that weshould earnestly tryto enter by the narrow gate, the only passageway that leads tosalvation. The Sacraments of Initiation—Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist—and most especially Baptism open the gateof salvation. By joining us in a real relationship with him who is the way and the truthand the life, these sacraments open the pathto new and eternal life.

If the forces of sin and death seemed at onetime to conspire to hold us bound and evenseemed to have the upper hand, we nowstand in the wonder of the free children ofGod. We now have access to healing, forgiveness, and the fullness of life throughthe sacraments that bring Jesus, the redeemer, and his saving work into our lives. The narrow gate is now the open gate, andthis gate is Jesus.

Año De Los Sacramentos • De Palabra En Palabra
