The Invitaon Code you received last fall from the test vendor, CTB, will enable you to see the results of your student’s ISTEP+ test in the Indiana Parent Network. The Spring 2015 version of ISTEP+ meas- ured student progress on the new college- and career-ready Indiana Academic Stand- ards in English/Language Arts and Mathemacs. These standards, which were first taught during the 2014-15 school year, represent higher-level thinking skills and are more challenging for students. The results of the new ISTEP+ test reflect an increase in expectaons regarding students’ knowledge, skills, and abilies. Because the 2015 ISTEP+ was the first state assessment to be based on Indiana’s new, more rigorous college and career ready standards, these scores are not comparable to previous pass rates. The 2015 ISTEP+ results instead established a new baseline for student progress towards college and career ready benchmarks. We are studying our school-wide results and connuing to teach and prepare our students for the next level, whether that is kindergarten or high school. We saw drops in our overall passing rate, just as the rest of the state did and we will connue to focus on our school goals and design lessons that are rigorous and engaging. ISTEP+ RESULTS

ISTEP+ results for the test taken last spring have been finalized and were released

this week. Parents may use their access codes to view student results. If you have

misplaced your access code, please contact Laura Bridgewater or Denise Wilson.

ISTEP+ 2015 measured the new standards adopted by Indiana and put into place in

the fall of 2014. These standards are more rigorous and the testing platform includ-

ed tasks that were new to the students. The following information comes to us from

Dr. Michele Walker, Director Office of Student Assessment for the Indiana Depart-

ment of Education:

Results of your student’s ISTEP+ Spring 2015 test will be released through the Indiana

Parent Network on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. The Invitation Code you received

last fall from the test vendor, CTB, will enable you to see the results of your student’s

ISTEP+ test in the Indiana Parent Network. The Spring 2015 version of ISTEP+ meas-

ured student progress on the new college- and career-ready Indiana Academic Stand-

ards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. These standards, which were first

taught during the 2014-15 school year, represent higher-level thinking skills and are

more challenging for students. The results of the new ISTEP+ test reflect an increase

in expectations regarding students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities. Because the 2015

ISTEP+ was the first state assessment to be based on Indiana’s new, more rigorous

college and career ready standards, these scores are not comparable to previous pass

rates. The 2015 ISTEP+ results instead established a new baseline for student progress

towards college and career ready benchmarks.

We are studying our school-wide results and continuing to teach and prepare our

students for the next level, whether that is kindergarten or high school. We saw

drops in our overall passing rate, just as the rest of the state did and we will continue

to focus on our school goals and design lessons that are rigorous and engaging.

CYBERBULLYING PRESENTATIONS—SAVE THE DATE

St. Barnabas School will welcome Kim Martin and Tim Turner on January 21st to present “Project CyberSafe”

to our 4-6th grade students. “Project CyberSafe” educates students in grades 4-6 about cyberbullying, online

threats, responsible online social networking, and the law. The presentations are done in an interactive for-

mat encouraging student involvement and participation. Presentations will be given during the school day

after announcements.

The “Project CyberSafe” presentation for parents and adults educates adults on the risks of cyberbullying,

dangers of unmonitored online activity by children and protecting personal information online. This presen-

tation will take place on the evening of January 21st at 7PM in the church. We ask that students do not

attend the parent event due to the content of the presentation.

Topics discussed during a Project Cybersafe presentation include:

1. The basics of bullying.

2. Relevant statutes that apply to bullying and the juvenile justice system.

3. The subpoena power of the court and the ability of the prosecutor’s office to get phone, facebook and

email records.

4. Student responsibility when faced with bullying.

5. “Privacy” on the internet is an illusion and anything you post could potentially be seen by the entire

online world.
