Speed Dating Experience
Speed dating is a popular activity, where one can meet new friends through a series of time-efficient “dates” with 12-15 members of the opposite gender. You will be able to talk comfortably with each of them and hopefully make an impression on some. Though you can ask a friend to accompany you, it is strongly advised that you register alone so you can make new friends.
The facilitators will introduce various activities so that you can have a fun afternoon and an opportunity to polish your dating skills. A set of speed dating tips will be given to you in preparation for the event.

• PeerEnglishTutoringThis is a 30-minute face-to-face chat session with a native or near-native English-speaking Peer Tutor, jointly organised by the Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) and CEDARS.
• SurvivalCantoneseThis three-week programme, conducted by Peer Tutors covers some day-to-day survival Cantonese for non-Cantonese speakers. It is ideal for any students who need basic Cantonese to get around. The programme is jointly organised by the Chinese Language Centre and CEDARS.
Both practise sessions of “Peer English Tutoring” and “Survival Cantonese” are held in Chi Wah Learning Commons (2/F, Zone R, Advising Area), Centennial Campus. Tutoring schedule will be announced by email.
• PeerTutoringServiceforStudentswithSpecialEducationalNeedsThis service aims at helping students who encounter learning problems due to their learning disabilities and/or other types of disabilities. We would like to recruit postgraduate students to provide a tutoring service for these students. Prior experience as an academic tutor as well as flexibility in working with people with disabilities is an advantage. Previous peer tutors reported a great sense of satisfaction and better understanding of people with disabilities. Interested students are welcome to contact Ms Iris Lam at [email protected].
• HEAKioskProject:ManageasocialenterpriseinHKUHEA Kiosk is collaboration between CEDARS and New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (“New Life”). The Kiosk carries sales items such as handicraft (created by people with mental disabilities), environmentally-friendly as well as fair trade products. Located on 3/F, Chong Yuet Ming Amenities Centre, the Kiosk is jointly managed by student volunteers and vocational trainees from New Life. Student volunteers will learn how to promote social inclusion through running a social enterprise.
• FitMindAmbassadorScheme:FightagainststigmaofmentalillnessThis Scheme is jointly designed and managed by CEDARS, Hong Kong Early Psychosis Intervention Society (EPISO) and Jockey Club Early Psychosis Project (JCEP). It is a service learning programme for HKU students to develop the attitude and skills for interacting with people who need support, contribute to the destigmatisation of mental illness and promote social inclusion in Hong Kong. As a student volunteer (FitMind Ambassador), you will serve as a “personal trainer” for people with mental illness.
Further details will be announced by email.
