A message from our Principal Proud & Deadly Student Awards
On Thursday 15th November our amazing students attended the Proud and Deadly Awards at the Commercial Club Wagga. To receive an award, a student must be nominated by their teacher and a page of information written to determine why that student deserves such a prestigious award. That nomination is then processed, by not simply 1 at school panel, but 2 in the wider community who then accept the recipient as a worthy, strong and dedicated winner of the chosen award.
We were exceptionally lucky to have eleven award winners. Ryan Tapfield (Academic Achievement), Aiden Upfield (Student Leadership), Willow Pietsch (Outstanding Sports Achievement), Mia Willis (Citizenship), Blake Keyes, Grace Keyes, Caitlain Simpson, Harminhi Pietsch, Isabella Pearce, Dexter Kroker and Ruby Betts (Dedication to Learning). South Wagga are very proud of these students and their commitment to learning. They are all highly responsible and respectful children and future leaders of our school. Well done. Thank you Mrs Emily Driscoll for transporting students and representing our school on the day.
Presentation Night
It is hard to believe that it is that time of year once again. Our annual Presentation evening will be held on Wednesday 28 November at 6:30pm.
In preparation for the event all students will be walking to Wagga Wagga High School on Monday 27 November at 9:30am and be returning by 11:20am in time for recess. If you do not wish your child to attend the rehearsal, please return the note sent home today with the eldest child. We look forward to celebrating student achievement with our school community.
2018 Combined Schools Band Concert
Community members are invited to be entertained by our talented school band and other local bands with the support of the Riverina Conservatorium of Music Instrumental Ensembles on Friday 16 November from 5.30pm -7.00pm. It will take place on the lawns of the CSU South Campus. Please bring along your chairs or rugs and enjoy a sausage sizzle.
Learning @ SWPS:
Effective listening
Next week we will be focusing on developing the skills of effective lis-tening. Effective listening involves paying full attention to someone talking so you can deeply understand what they are saying.
Student thinking may include: I will pay attention to others
by looking at them. I will show I am listening by
making eye contact and turning my body to face them.
I will avoid distractions while I am listening.
Through effective listening, SWPS aims to help students deeply understand their learning and engage appropriately with teachers and their peers.
School Leaders 2019 Speeches
Year 5 students wishing to be elected as our
2019 School Captains and Vice Captains will
address the whole school on Wednesday 21
November. Students will be given time to
write their speeches prior to the
presentation. Good luck!

Cricket Champion
Perri Nash is an outstanding sportswoman who has
represented the Riverina since Year 4 2016 and was
selected for the NSW PSSA invitational team last year. This
Year, Perri recently played in the State Knockout for
Riverina and was selected once again for NSW. She was
awarded champion player of the series, champion batter of
the series with her 3 half centuries and she received the
Riverina Medal from her coach. Perri for the last two years
has also been invited to attend the State Cricket clinics in
Sydney at St Gregory's with renowned National and State
PSSA Coaches. Perri will now play cricket in Perth at the
National Championships in December as part of the NSW
Girls Cricket side.
Congratulations Perri!
Social Media Safety
There have been some concerns raised in regards to the safety of social media platforms. There are a number of students who have indicated they use various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. The age requirements for these sites are 13 years of age. It is certainly at the parent’s discretion if their child is per-mitted to access these sites and create accounts.
As a school we aim to work in partnership with parents to educate students on the safe use of apps and the internet. To keep your child safe, please discuss the need/use of location settings and be mindful of who your child befriends or interacts with. Become familiar with what your child is doing on their devices. I wish to reiterate that there has been no behaviour of concern from any child at SWPS. The intention of this information is purely to raise awareness and increase safety for our students.
CANTEEN TEMPORARY CLOSURE
The Canteen will be closed from Monday 26 November (week
7) until Thursday 13 December (week 9). The Canteen will
reopen on 14 December until Wednesday 19 December
(students last day). The P&C apologises for any inconvenience
however our attempts to recruit a temporary Canteen
Manager were unsuccessful.

Clothing Pool
A notice from the Clothing Pool.
This is my last year with the clothing pool. I am looking for a
person or persons to take it over. It includes the sorting, washing,
ironing and hanging in the designated positions. Leanne does all
repairs.
I open the clothing pool at the moment on a Wednesday morning
between 8.30am and 9.30am. It is also open for sales at the Fete.
The clothing pool is a very important part of the school and your
interest in this position is paramount.
Please phone Jenny McNamara 0417736514.
