SUB-HAANALLAH SUB-HAANALLAH

(Glory be the Most Exalted and Transcendent Allah)(Glory be the Most Exalted and Transcendent Allah)

Allah, in this verse clarify a principle in Islam, to refute the Allah, in this verse clarify a principle in Islam, to refute the

wrong notion which many people have regarding its wrong notion which many people have regarding its

commandments and teachings.commandments and teachings.

Mankind by nature is (Mankind by nature is (NAFSNAFS) self-centered, very attached to his ) self-centered, very attached to his

desires (desires (HAWAHAWA’’). And ‘). And ‘AL-ISLAMAL-ISLAM’ essentially directs mankind to ’ essentially directs mankind to

submit his will (and desire) to the will of Allah – much of which submit his will (and desire) to the will of Allah – much of which

requires him to oppose his base desire for a higher good. Therefore, requires him to oppose his base desire for a higher good. Therefore,

without knowledge and appreciation of higher wisdom, many without knowledge and appreciation of higher wisdom, many

general principle regarding all other Muslims general principle regarding all other Muslims ‘IBAADAH ‘IBAADAH (formal (formal

devotional practices and laws) too.devotional practices and laws) too.


If we honestly reflect, in RamaIf we honestly reflect, in Ramadhdhan it can be proven, for example. :an it can be proven, for example. :

How easy to wake up early; be engaged in night devotion with How easy to wake up early; be engaged in night devotion with

passion; performing prayers in congregation and attending beneficial passion; performing prayers in congregation and attending beneficial

gatherings; avoiding what may nullify our fast; increasing charity and gatherings; avoiding what may nullify our fast; increasing charity and

Although one has to overcome the initial ‘Although one has to overcome the initial ‘reluctance, laziness or reluctance, laziness or

inconvenienceinconvenience’ which our ’ which our NAFSNAFS (lower desire and ego) may tend to (lower desire and ego) may tend to

view these to be, yet over time Muslims attitude can be changed with view these to be, yet over time Muslims attitude can be changed with

patient perseverance.patient perseverance.

Generally, within RamaGenerally, within Ramadhdhan, Allah SWT in fact is teaching us by an, Allah SWT in fact is teaching us by

experiencing them, that all His command indeed is easy, not difficult.experiencing them, that all His command indeed is easy, not difficult.


The relevant question we should ask : “The relevant question we should ask : “How can we maintain these How can we maintain these

even after Ramaeven after Ramadhdhan? an? ””

The answer is :” We can, The answer is :” We can, BI IDZ-NILLAH! BI IDZ-NILLAH! if we continue to apply if we continue to apply

similar principles in observing our duty as Muslims like that in similar principles in observing our duty as Muslims like that in

RamaRamadhdhan”. Amongst others:an”. Amongst others:

formulation of intention daily i.e.formulation of intention daily i.e. NIYYAT NIYYAT with with DU’ADU’A attached to attached to

reliance and belief (reliance and belief (IIMANIIMAN) upon Allah’s guardianship over all His ) upon Allah’s guardianship over all His

goodly servants.goodly servants.

[2] [2] Have good opinion (Have good opinion (HUSNU DZONNHUSNU DZONN) and trusting Allah SWT ) and trusting Allah SWT

((TAWAKKULTAWAKKUL) with patient perseverance () with patient perseverance (SwSwOBROBR).).







[3] [3] Whenever tempted, look ahead towards the awaited victory, Whenever tempted, look ahead towards the awaited victory,

success and hoping for the reward awaiting (success and hoping for the reward awaiting (IHTISABIHTISAB), not the current ), not the current

worldly situation which is but a temporary test that soon will end.worldly situation which is but a temporary test that soon will end.

[5] [5] Avoid being vain-glorious or conceited, and regard one’s acts of Avoid being vain-glorious or conceited, and regard one’s acts of

obedience and achievement in fulfilling our duties as something normal obedience and achievement in fulfilling our duties as something normal

and ordinary as with everyone else. This requires constant vigilance and ordinary as with everyone else. This requires constant vigilance

over our state of sincerity (over our state of sincerity (IKHLASwIKHLASw) and avoiding ostentatious and ) and avoiding ostentatious and

bragging (bragging (RIYARIYA’)’)

seeing, that is judging us and our deeds (seeing, that is judging us and our deeds (MURAQOBAHMURAQOBAH).).

The pillar of submission (The pillar of submission (ARKAA-N AL ISLAMARKAA-N AL ISLAM), are in fact essential ), are in fact essential

disposition of one whose submission / obedience to Allah becomes disposition of one whose submission / obedience to Allah becomes

consistently upheld (consistently upheld (ISTIQOMAHISTIQOMAH) with patience-constancy () with patience-constancy (AS-SwOBRAS-SwOBR). ).

As in the month of RamaAs in the month of Ramadhdhan, the proof of this principle in self-an, the proof of this principle in self-

reform is annually demonstrated, not just as exception, individually, but reform is annually demonstrated, not just as exception, individually, but

from Him which ought to be experienced, reflected upon and from Him which ought to be experienced, reflected upon and

appreciated. The Ramaappreciated. The Ramadhdhan experience thenceforth become as proof, a an experience thenceforth become as proof, a

standard template of obedience and worship that the Muslim, in fact standard template of obedience and worship that the Muslim, in fact

can and should be steadfast upon, until the next Ramacan and should be steadfast upon, until the next Ramadhdhan.an.

Muslims celebrate with display of gratitude to Allah, with Muslims celebrate with display of gratitude to Allah, with

Therefore be reminded that the Therefore be reminded that the EID-UL-FITR’ EID-UL-FITR’ is to be celebrated :is to be celebrated :

with a sense of ‘with a sense of ‘gratitudegratitude’ not ‘’ not ‘reliefrelief’; ’;

as ‘as ‘repentantrepentant’ servants not ‘’ servants not ‘escaped prisonersescaped prisoners’; ’;

as united global community committed in purpose of attestation to the as united global community committed in purpose of attestation to the

Oneness of God (Oneness of God (TAUTAUHHEEDEED) bound into the true brotherhood of ) bound into the true brotherhood of

mankind (mankind (INSAANINSAAN), although multi-ethnic yet committed to serve Him;), although multi-ethnic yet committed to serve Him;

A community although imperfect with many shortcomings, seeks to gain A community although imperfect with many shortcomings, seeks to gain

perfection and indeed can and is determined to gain with striving, only perfection and indeed can and is determined to gain with striving, only

by abiding to and conforming with the perfected teachings of Allah and by abiding to and conforming with the perfected teachings of Allah and

His Messenger s.a.w. (His Messenger s.a.w. (DEEN-UL-KAAMILDEEN-UL-KAAMIL).).


Therefore be reminded that the Therefore be reminded that the EID-UL-FITR’ EID-UL-FITR’ is to be celebrated with :is to be celebrated with :

as a community who bear witness of as a community who bear witness of Al-IslamAl-Islam to other nations not to other nations not

‘showing off personal glory and affluence’;‘showing off personal glory and affluence’;

an inclusive community that invites others to join its fold too, through an inclusive community that invites others to join its fold too, through

peaceful means with practical example and of (peaceful means with practical example and of (DA’AWAHDA’AWAH) inviting with ) inviting with

knowledge of the truth, not by force nor by deception ; a community knowledge of the truth, not by force nor by deception ; a community

that reminds others of the teachings and practices of past prophets, that reminds others of the teachings and practices of past prophets,

inviting mankind back to their primordial innocence (inviting mankind back to their primordial innocence (FIFITwTwRAHRAH) of ) of

become the servant of God not of passion and materialism;become the servant of God not of passion and materialism;


As a community purged of past ‘habit’, re-invigorated with Divine As a community purged of past ‘habit’, re-invigorated with Divine

ever more determined to face further challenges till another ever more determined to face further challenges till another

standard Religion: but most among mankind understand
