“ (Allah) Who has made the earth a resting-place for

you and the sky a canopy, and has sent down water

from the sky and thereby brought forth fruits for your

sustenance: do not, then, claim that there is any power

that could rival Allah, when you know [that He is One].”

Mankind’s existence is not accidental as though without purpose,

but humans by nature are capable of knowing meanings and purpose to

his life and his special place in nature.

Unlike animals, man’s reasoning faculty is summoned to reflect upon

the higher philosophical questions as to the meaning and purpose of life

which leads to the cognition of the existence of the Divine.

There is already and innate predisposition in him towards wanting to

serve (worship) someone or something.

Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Tolib r.a. said:Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Tolib r.a. said:


Those who claimed to be “atheists” even are in reality serving or

worshipping their own Selves (their desires).

““Have you seen Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desirehe who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allah , and Allah

has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his

hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide

him after Allah? him after Allah? Then will you not be remindedThen will you not be reminded?”?”

”He clarified its excellence over other months by the many

sacred things and well-known excellences (FADHILAT) which He

placed therein, for He made unlawful in it what He declared

lawful in others to magnify it (‘AZAMAT), … “

He appointed for it (WAQT) a clear time which He (majestic and

mighty is He) allows not to be set forward and accepts not to be

placed behind.”

from acts of disobedience toward Thee and our employing

them in that which pleases Thee, …”

ThyThy reward reward and pursue nothing but what and pursue nothing but what protects from protects from

Thy punishmentThy punishment! “! “


“Then rid (KHAL-LISw) all of that from the false show (RIYA’) of the

false showers and the fame seeking (SUM-’A) of the fame seekers,

lest we associate (SHIRK) therein anything with Thee or seek

therein any object of desire but Thee! “


“ “O Allah, O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Householdbless Muhammad and his Household, in it make us , in it make us

attend to the appointed moments attend to the appointed moments of the five prayers (of the five prayers (SWOLAHSWOLAH) )

within within the bounds the bounds Thou hast set, Thou hast set, the obligations the obligations Thou hast Thou hast

decreed, decreed, the duties the duties Thou hast assigned, and Thou hast assigned, and the times the times Thou hast Thou hast

specified;”specified;”

purify them through paying the alms, (ZAKAH)… “

us (us (except him who is regarded as an enemy in Thee and for Theeexcept him who is regarded as an enemy in Thee and for Thee, ,

for he is the enemy whom we will not befriend, the party whom for he is the enemy whom we will not befriend, the party whom

obedience and sorts of nearness-seekingobedience and sorts of nearness-seeking unless they be less than unless they be less than

“ “O Allah, O Allah, I ask Thee by the right I ask Thee by the right ((BI-HAQQIBI-HAQQI) ) of this month of this month and and

by the by the right right ((BI-HAQQIBI-HAQQI) ) of him who worships Theeof him who worships Thee within it within it

from its beginning to the time of its passing, whether from its beginning to the time of its passing, whether angel angel

Thou hast brought nigh to TheeThou hast brought nigh to Thee, prophet , prophet Thou hast sent, or Thou hast sent, or

righteous servant righteous servant Thou hast singled out, … ”Thou hast singled out, … ”

“ … “ … blindness blindness toward Thy path, toward Thy path, heedlessness oheedlessness of Thy inviolability, f Thy inviolability,

and and being deceived being deceived by Thy enemy, the accursed Satan! “by Thy enemy, the accursed Satan! “


“ “O Allah, O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Householdbless Muhammad and his Household, and when in , and when in

every night of this month's nights every night of this month's nights Thou hast necks Thou hast necks which Thy which Thy

pardonpardon will release and Thy will release and Thy forgivenessforgiveness disregard, disregard, place our place our

necks among those necks necks among those necks and place us among and place us among the best folk and the best folk and

companionscompanions of this our month! “ of this our month! “


“ “O Allah, O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Householdbless Muhammad and his Household, , efface our sins efface our sins

along with the effacing of its crescent moon, and make us along with the effacing of its crescent moon, and make us pass pass

forth from the ill effectsforth from the ill effects of our acts with the passing of its days, of our acts with the passing of its days,

until it leaves us behind, while within it until it leaves us behind, while within it Thou hast purified us Thou hast purified us of of

offensesoffenses and and rid us of evil rid us of evil deeds! “deeds! “


“ “O Allah, O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Householdbless Muhammad and his Household, and should we , and should we

go off to one side in this month, go off to one side in this month, set us arightset us aright; should we swerve, ; should we swerve,

point us straightpoint us straight; and should Thy enemy Satan enwrap us, ; and should Thy enemy Satan enwrap us, rescue rescue

as Thou givest us life, and as Thou givest us life, and place us among Thy righteous place us among Thy righteous

servantsservants, "those who shall inherit Paradise, therein dwelling , "those who shall inherit Paradise, therein dwelling
