WHO IS IT ABOUT?

My name is Christopher Dormoy. You probably know me best as a designer and art director in the online world and in print, but perhaps also as a 3D designer. My first steps in the art world were in industrial design in France, where I stu-died fine arts.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

My concept is therefore based on industrial de-sign. It involves coming up with an innovative and original design for a loudspeaker that is un-derpinned by nature, organic shapes, and a desire to experiment.

The project is called Liquisound. Liquid is behind the idea and the very essence of the concepts I am presenting.

My aim is to enter into a partnership with Sid Lee for the artistic side of things and with a well-known Quebec audio company for the technical side of things.

WHY?

I have been fascinated by all things audio for as long as I can remember and have always dreamed of having the chance to design bold, original, and powerful speakers.

For years, I have sought to integrate organic shapes into my designs. Liquid is a natural, simple, and pure element. It is an outstanding starting point for all kinds of 2D, 3D, and cinematic designs. In my eyes, using liquid to design speakers is highly innovative and represents a step forward in the design of acoustic sources.

WHAT IS IT?

Imagine liquid chrome being poured over two sus-pended spheres—then letting gravity do the rest.The liquid forms the base of the speaker, a con-cept that could spawn models of varying shapes and sizes.

WHAT IS IT?

Gravity creates a world of beautiful shapes in nature. The speaker design is inspired by the most basic representation of water as it feels the pull of gravity.

With its base on top, this speaker goes against the concept of the object always resting on the ground.

The speaker has a number of diaphragms for maximum sound.

WHAT IS IT?

This concept is based on the optical illusion of a spherical speaker turning a wall to liquid as it is propelled through it. The splash can be painted to match the wall for greater optical effect.

The size of the speaker may vary from the small-est satellite style to the largest frontal style.

IN CONCLUSION

These various speaker designs are only a hand-ful of examples summoned from my imagina-tion. The aim is to create something that reflects how I look at this everyday object, while giving Sid Lee a chance to provide input. I am familiar with the artistic avenues Sid Lee seeks to explore, and would be delighted to add my ideas to the creative mix.
