Thousands of people have soaredover the treetops at 50 mph on Shep-herd of the Hills' Vigilante ZipRider, but some employees there can't seem tostop talking about one rider in particu-lar.

Berdena Reeves, who is turning101 years old Aug. 19, took her thirdtrip from the top of Inspiration Towerto a landing point a half-mile away thisweek.

"She is such a neat lady," generalmanager Bill Stark said.

Earlier this summer, as Reeves andher son traveled from her house in DesMoines, Iowa, to his home in Galve-ston, Texas, they made a stop in Bran-son, where Berdena Reeves got to slipinto the harness and soar through the airnot once, but twice, that day.

"She liked it so we let her do itagain," Stark said.

Since Reeves' first visit, employees

have kept a picture of their oldest riderup in Inspiration Tower and use Reeves'story as an encourage-ment to riders whomight not be as fear-less.

"I think it is prettywonderful," Reevessaid Wednesday after-noon, as she waitedfor her son to help fillout a release form.

Her only com-plaint - it doesn't lastlong enough.

"She's wanted tojump out of an air-plane for her birth-day," said BerdenaReeves' daughter-in-law Ann Reeves.

However, be-cause the 100-year-old suffers from os-teoporosis, her doctor didn't approve.Ann Reeves said her mother-in-lawcan't do anything that would cause an

impact to her knees."Otherwise, she'd be out the plane

in a second," she said. The ZipRider, which allows

Reeves to sit comfortably and enjoy the

ride, gives Reeves the "flying" experi-ence she desires without the dangers re-

lated to skydiving and landing.Even though Berdena Reeves' son

and daughter-in-law brought her to theVigilante Wednesday, she was on herown for the ride. "If I did it, she'd worry

about me and she wouldn'tenjoy it enough,"

Berdena Reeves's son RodReeves said with a laugh, whowas more than happy to stay be-hind and watch from the tower.

Stark said that BerdenaReeves is the oldest rider toclimb aboard the Vigilante andcould be the oldest ZipRiderpassenger ever.

"I'm certain for us," he said.Stark contacted the

ZipRider company afterBerdena Reeves first visitedShepherd of the Hills earlier thisyear.

"They think she is the old-est one, period," he said.

By Sydney StoneIt was April 15, 1912, when the

RMS Titanic was lost. (Did you knowthe passenger liner was a mail ship?)Titanic Museum Attractions havebegun centennial remembrances, in-cluding giving away six 11-day tripsfor two to Belfast, Ireland (where theship was built). Get more info at Ti-tanicAttraction.com. Have you beento Titanic? Fascinating! You trulystep back in time. Displays and arti-facts, sounds, recreations and specialeffects are amazing. I see and experi-ence something new each time I visit

the “museum.” (It’s “so” not like amuseum, though.)

Fall is a nice time to see the cam-pus of College of the Ozarks (C ofO). Tour the fruitcake and jellykitchen and toss out the fruitcakejokes. They bake 40,000 deliciouscakes from January to October, thenstart shipping. And 30,000 jars ofjelly, 22 varieties. Can you name 22?Edwards Mill, a working mill oper-ated by students, is another highlight.See the workings of the Mill. Andyou can buy items like flour, corn

meal, baskets, the Edwards MillCookbook, placemats made by stu-dents upstairs at the looms. Thegreenhouse and orchid collection, thedairy, Williams Memorial Chapel(built in neo-Gothic style), all oncampus means lots to see. The RalphFoster Museum is dedicated to thehistory of the Ozarks, housing thou-sands of items and artifacts from theareas of fine arts, history, archaeol-ogy.

While at C of O, visit TheKeeter Center. It’s modeled after theState of Maine Building at the 1904World’s Fair. Dobyns Dining Roomthere is an excellent upscale diningchoice. Many of the ingredients fortheir meals are produced at the Col-lege. From the dairy barn, the mill, tomatoes and other vegetables grownin season: healthy and unique menuswith something for everyone. Plan tostay there sometime; each room andsuite is rustic elegance at its best,

with fireplaces and balconies. Freshcookies and milk from the dairy withyour turndown service!

Brave enough for the HauntedHouse & MonsterAsylum? Journeythru an Ozarks Cemetery, down dark-ened hallways, past creaking doors.Crypts and ghostly castles are just thething for Halloween fun! On theother side the Dinosaur Museum isfun and educational. More than 50life-sized dinosaurs, made by paleo-artists from dinosaur skeletons. Takea walk on the wild side!

Coming back for Ozark Moun-tain Christmas? Besides your fa-vorite shows, don’t miss Mel Tillisand his family Christmas show at theTri-Lakes Theatre. And Tony Or-lando presents his Great AmericanChristmas at the Welk Resort The-atre. (I’m thinkin’ we might see a lit-tle of his Santa and Me!) Y’all comeback!

By Linda BurlingameThe newest show at the ICON is

The Lennon Morning Show, a greatcombination of amazing talent and livemusic: rock, folk, blues & jazz…musical favorites of the show’sthree stars. Bill Lennon, brotherto the Lennon Sisters; Bill’s wifeGail Lennon; and Mike Cath-cart, son of Peggy Lennon andthe late, great Dick Cathcart, areBranson favorites. With impres-sive credentials of their own, theyare extraordinarily talented musi-cians, from song selection to ar-ranging and performing. Butdon’t take my word for it.

AndyWilliams says, “Mike isthe best singer I know!” “What atreat,” says Pam Tillis. NealMcCoy, “You’ll love it!” TonyOrlando sums it up, “In a word, awe-some!”

“Three in the morning at 10 a.m.”

have included music in the tradition ofCrosby, Still & Nash; Beach Boys;Peter, Paul & Mary and more. You’lllove not only the music but also their

onstage banter, stories about the musicand a tale or two about the famousLennon family! Call to check on the

lunch option with The Lennon Morn-ing Show.

Jukebox Journey is a musical tripback to the days of drive-in’s and bobby

sox. Relive those days withthe songs of Buddy Holly,Ritchie Valens, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, the girlgroups and more. The Juke-box Journey production in-cludes singer, dancers, and alive band. “Let the GoodTimes Roll!”

The Platters need no in-troduction to music fans.Generations have danced totheir romantic songs likeOnly You, Smoke Gets inYour Eyes, Twilight Time.Sounds from the “MotownGlory Days!” This Tribute to

The Platters features original arrange-ments and harmonies. (Wait, I remem-ber the prom decorations!)

The Rat Pack is a fun tribute to“Frank,” “Dean” and “Sammy,” threeof the most famous crooners ever totake the stage. Backed by a live orches-tra, this performance is reminiscent ofRat Pack shows in the Copa Room atthe Sands Hotel Casino. Sing along andlaugh with Branson’s “Rat Pack!”

Another entertainer who needs nointroduction is Chubby Checker. Youhaven’t “twisted” ‘til you’ve “twistedwith Chubby!” (Yours truly twisted onstage with him once!) His live show isa must for rock ‘n’ roll fans every-where; you’ll have your chance againin Nov. and Dec., when ChubbyChecker returns to the ICON!

The ICON Theatre is on Hwy. 76near the intersection of 76 and GretnaRoad, by the helicopters. Check The-IconTheatre.com for schedules andmore info. Call 417-336-4266 and askabout lunch and dinner options with theshows!

ROCKIT is unique. I knew I wouldenjoy it but I was blown away by the per-formance. The cast is incredibly talented;my notes say, “they’re all stars.” Theyshare the spotlightthroughout the show forexcellent solo segments, including music fromJerry Lee Lewis, EricClapton, Jackie DeShan-non, and Lionel Richie.

Other exceptionalsegments highlight SamCooke, Steve MillerBand, rock and roll fromthe 50’s and 60’s, alineup of classic, favoritesongs. Someone said it’slike watching the Ed Sul-livan Show, “lots of great

acts!”Marvin Short is the “guy with the

hairdo.” (Forty-five minutes and howmany cans of hairspray?) But his realclaim to fame is his magical saxophone.“Marvelous Marvin” makes it croon,

makes it wail … fromstyles like Yakety Sax toromantic tunes, the audi-ence “ooh’s” with pleas-ure when he strolls thestage with his horn.

Darrell Croy does abrilliant Jerry Lee Lewis. The numbers are scat-tered throughout theshow and each is fun, just glad it’s not mypiano he’s “playing!”He’s cuter than JerryLee, quite limber whenhe tickles the ivories

Samantha also sings someJackie DeShannon, duets with the guys ~and does a beautiful aerial silk perform-ance, in a leopard outfit to the tune ofBorn to be Wild. The entire show has a lotof personality!

David Lawrence is persuasive as Li-onel Richie and does some sweet SammyDavis. He plays guitar and piano; a tal-ented dancer, he and Samantha are“Dancing with the Stars!” Dave has lots

of goodmoves and fun with the audience.Steve Ragsdale (ooh, his guitar “sings!”)does a superb Eric Clapton segment thatincludes You Look Wonderful Tonight, IShot the Sheriff, and Lay Down Sally.“Bob on bass” and “Mike on drums” keepit all together, a smooth operation, fel-lows. ROCKIT! is Branson’s award winningrock and roll show. Rock on!

By Linda BurlingameGreat music spans generations …

from opera to opry, from classical torock ‘n’ roll. The two shows at theStarlite are perfect examples.

Righteous Brothers Bill Medleyentertains audiences with songs likeYou’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling, Un-chained Melody, Soul and Inspiration,Just Once in My Life, — classicsounds! The Righteous Brothers, Med-ley and Bobby Hatfield, combinedrock with rhythm ‘n’ blues and chartedin Billboard’s Top 10 five times in just15 months. In the 70’s they hit the Top 10

again with Rock and Roll Heaven.Their songs in movies like Top Gun,Ghost, Naked Gun, and Dirty Dancinggarnered them popularity with a newgeneration. In 2003, before Hatfield’sdeath, The Righteous Brothers wereinducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of

Fame.Medley is joined on stage by his

great band and his talented daughterMcKenna Medley. A fan ofConnie Francis and other fe-male artists of that era,McKenna does a superb jobwith those songs, and someElvis music (another favoriteof hers) and more soulfulsounds. She and Bill do TheTime of My Life, his Grammy-winning duet (“Song of theYear”) with Jennifer Warnesfrom Dirty Dancing.

The Texas Tenors delightaudiences wherever they per-form. Their voices are very dif-ferent but John Hagen says,“We’re able to bring a uniquestyle to each of the differentgenres of music that we do.” Fromopera to Sinatra, Alabama to (John)

The Starlite Theatre …Two great shows this fall!

Denver, their music selection, their tal-ent and charm on stage make the showentertaining for everyone. The Tenors have impressive bios.
