YOUTH ACTIVITIES ON NATIONAL LEVEL

• Service Union United PAM is a union for young workers, in particular. On national level we have Youth Committee that is elected every year in one of our major events called Youth Forum. Youth Forum is an open event for all of our young members.

• Our Youth Forum is a place for open discussion, for planning and for anyone to bring up new themes and ideas. These ideas and group discussion create our guidelines for the following year – these guidelines are the ones that our Youth Committee is obliged to follow and pursue on.

YOUTH COMMITTEE

• The elected Committee consists of 12 members who allrepresent their own area and are elected to thecommittee by their peers on their own areas. The actualelection happens in Youth Forum, but the candidatesare expected already to be keenly linked to the regionalyouth activities and the youth work that is happening attheir own local branch. These are the minimumrequirements for the candidates in order to make surethat the link between national and local level is asstrong as possible.

Besides planning events and being active within the union, the committee members are also taking part in the public discussions and are constantly bringing up any worries or problems that our young members might have.

• Youth Committee meetsaround 7 times a year. Everyother meeting is via skype.

• Two major events for allyoung members and students

• Several coahching programsand educational eventstrough out the year

YOUTH ACTIVITIES INREGIONAL AREAS

• Every regional area has their own regional youth group that creates and plansactivities to all young PAM members, who live in the area. This group is lead bythe member of the national youth committee and one’ssubstitute member.

• The national Youth committee makes some suggestions and guidelines for theregional groups, but they are allowed to work as independelty as they wish aslong as they focus on educating and activating the young members.

• The regional Youth group is provided budget of one euro for each youngmember at their area are, wich normally adds up to around 6000 to 10000euros yearly.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES IN LOCAL BRANCHES

• Each branch have as well theirown Youth organizer, who willcontact they young people in their branch and be a contactperson for them.

• Some branches have their ownyouth activities, where as others do not have actualactivities but are contactingthem in other ways.

• We visit every vocationalschool each autumn in order to get in contact withall new students

• We create spesificcampaigns for studentgroups, so that they havetools to motivate theirpeers to join the union.

• We contact all graduatingclasses and visit thembefore they start their lastpraktikum

• We contact all studentstwice after graduation, sothat they remember to join PAM now as an actualmember.

Organizing is part of everything we do

• By organizing we mean creating organized working placestrough the empowerment of workers. This is our main goal that was set by our congress.

• Organizing is in everything that we do and in order to make it possible we have had to make some alterationsinto the whole organization and in the way we areorganized as a union.

• Our Youth Committee members have beentrained into organizing and they areexpected to use organizing as their main method and also share their knowledge withothers

• Youth had their own campaign during the summer wich gave us possibility to practiseour 1:1 – skills.

• Organizing is at the moment also taken into action in our central organisation, whichhopefuly will bring us a new type of membership options for young people whofor example work on several sectors.
