Activating and deactivating mapnavigation*The navigation system is automatically activatedwhen the driver's door is opened and is deacti-vated when the driver locks and arms the vehi-cle.

View the map on the center display by tappingthe top tile (1) in Home view.

If the center display does not show the tile fornavigation - press briefly twice on the home but-ton (2) and then tap on the tile for navigation (1).

A map will appear of the surrounding area andthe vehicle's current location (blue triangle).

Tap this symbol to display themap across the entire centerdisplay.

WARNING

Observe the following:

• Direct all your attention to the road andmake sure that your concentration isfocused on driving.

• Follow applicable traffic laws and usegood judgment while driving.

• Road conditions can be affected byweather or season, which may make cer-tain recommendations less reliable.

Deactivating navigationWhile the ignition is switched on, the navigationsystem is always active in the background. It

switches off automatically when the ignition isswitched off and the vehicle is locked.

NOTE

The navigation system is available even whenthe engine is turned off. If the battery chargelevel becomes too low, the system will switchoff.

Information cards on the map*All icons on the map, such as destinations, way-points and favorites, have an information cardthat can be opened by tapping the icon. A smallcard appears upon one press, two pressesshows a larger card with more information.

Opening the icon's Info card gives the driver up-to-date information for that icon.

The information and possible options varydepending on the type of icon.

For example, when a POI(2) is highlighted, thedriver can select e.g.:

• Start navigation - save the location as adestination

• Add as waypoint - the position is saved asan intermediate destination (only displayed atthe specified destination)

• Save - the position is saved in the library

• Remove from itinerary - the position isremoved if it is included in the itinerary

• Nearby POI - points of interest close to thecar's position are shown

Where am I?What is the vehicle's current geographic loca-tion?

• Tap the vehicle symbol (blue triangle) on themap to display information directly on themap.

Find the vehicle symbol on the mapAfter zooming out/in or moving themap, it may be difficult to find the vehi-cle's location on the map again. Tapthe crosshairs to reset the map to fol-

low the vehicle symbol.

North or direction of travel facing up onthe map

There are two ways to show the vehi-cle's movement in relation to the map.Tap the symbols to toggle between thevehicle's direction of travel or northshown facing up on the map.

When the map is shown with north fac-ing up, the vehicle symbol moves in the

actual compass direction on the map. If the vehi-cle is moving west, it will be shown moving left onthe map (east is right, south is down, etc.).

When the vehicle symbol is pointing up, the maprotates under the vehicle symbol following theturns made by the vehicle. The compass symbolindicates which direction is north (N) on the mapand the direction in which the front of the vehicleis pointing is shown in the center of the compass:

2D or 3D viewTap the symbols to toggle between 2Dand 3D display.

With 3D display, the vehicle's direction of travel isalways up. The map rotates under the vehiclesymbols following the turns made by the vehicle.The compass indicates which direction is north(N) on the map and the direction in which thefront of the vehicle is pointing is shown in thecenter of the compass: The map scale is notshown in 3D mode.

With 2D display, the map is shown with north fac-ing up, and the vehicle symbols moves in theactual compass direction on the map.

Zoom inTo make the map larger, tap the center displaytwice in quick succession with one finger or placetwo fingers on the center display and move themapart ("stretch").

Zoom outTo make the map smaller, tap the center displayonce with two fingers or place two fingers on thecenter display and move them together ("pinch").

ScrollPlace one finger on the map, swipe in the desireddirection and release. The scroll function is onlypossible with the map in maximized view, notminimized.

Change the headers displayedMaximize the map and tap the map heading atthe top of the center display. The following head-ers can be displayed on the map:

1. Destination Destination, arrival time (ETA) orremaining travel time (RTA) and distance todestination (Distance). For more informationon selecting ETA or RTA, see "Route set-tings and guidance".

2. Current position as address (Address) or ascoordinates (Coordinates). When coordinatesare shown, altitude is also shown (Altitude).To choose between address and coordinates,see section "Map settings".

Map navigation* in the instrumentpanelSensus Navigation can be presented and con-trolled in several different ways, e.g. via theinstrument panel.

The map is only shown on the 12" instrument panel.

While driving, the driver receives voice guidanceand instructions on the instrument panel. Mapguidance in the instrument panel can also beactivated without entering a destination.

The right-side steering wheel keypadand instrument panelSome of the navigation system's functions, suchas Take me home and Cancel guidance, canbe controlled using the right-side steering wheelkeypad. If a message is displayed in the instru-ment panel, it must be accepted or dismissedbefore the menu can be displayed.

Open/close the menu. The menu will closeautomatically after a period of inactivity orafter certain selections.

Activating and deactivating mapdisplay* in the instrument panelThe map will be automatically displayed in theinstrument panel when a destination is set. It canalso be displayed without a set destination.

1. Pull down the center display's Top view.

2. Tap Settings.

3. Tap My Car Displays Driver DisplayInformation.

4. Tap the Show Map radio button to activatemap display in the instrument panel even ifno itinerary has been activated.

Map navigation* in head-up-display*Sensus Navigation can be presented and con-trolled in several different ways, e.g. via thehead-up display.

Navigation guidance on the windshield.

The driver can also get guidance and informationfrom the navigation system in the head-up dis-play on the lower section of the windshield.

You can make settings to specify which naviga-tion information is shown in the head-up display,as well as the position of the information field.

Voice control3 for navigation*Several of the navigation system's functions canbe activated with voice commands.

Tap and say one of the following commands:

• "Navigation" - Starts a navigation dialogand displays examples of commands.

• "Take me home" - Guidance is provided tothe location set as Home.

• "Go to [city]" - Inputs a city as a destination,e.g. "Go to San Francisco".

• "Go to [address]" - Inputs an address as adestination. An address must contain city andstreet. e.g. "Go to Filbert Street 5, San Fran-cisco".

• "Add intersection" - Starts a dialog to inputtwo streets. The destination will then be theintersection of these two streets.

• "Go to [zip code]" - Input a zip code as thedestination. e.g. "Go to 1 2 3 4 5".

• "Go to [contact]" - Input an address fromthe phone book as the destination. Example"Go to Robyn Smith".

• "Search [POI category]" - Search Pointsof Interest (POI) in a certain category (e.g.restaurants)4. To sort the list along the route,say "Along the route" when the list ofresults is displayed.

• "Search [POI category] i [city]" -Searches for POIs in a certain category andcity. The list of results is sorted based on thecenter point of the city. Example "Look forrestaurant in San Francisco".

• "Search [POI name]". For example,"Search Golden Gate Bridge".

• "Change country/Change state5,6" -Changes the search area for navigation.

• "Show favorites" - Displays locationsmarked as favorites in the instrument panel.

• "Clear itinerary" - Deletes all stored way-points and destinations in an itinerary.

• "Repeat voice guidance" - Repeats themost recent guidance instruction.

• "Turn off voice guidance" - Guidance off.

• "Turn on voice guidance" - Guidance on.

Entering a destination directly onthe map*There are several different ways to set a destina-tion. Tapping a point on the map is one of these,and often the easiest.It is often easiest to scroll to the desired positionand tap it.

1. Make sure the map is in full-screen mode.

2. Scroll to the desired location on the map.

3. Press and hold the location. An icon will becreated and a menu will appear.

4. Select Go here to start guidance.

Deleting the iconTo delete the location's icon:

• Select Delete

Changing the icon's locationTo change the location of the icon:

• Press and hold the icon, drag it to thedesired location and then release it.

Entering a destination using anaddressThere are several ways to set a destination in thenavigation system*. Entering an address is oneof them.1. When the map appears, expand the toolbar

using the down arrow on the left-hand sideand tap Set dest.

> The map will switch to free text search.

2. Tap Address.

3. It is not necessary to fill in all of the fields.For guidance to a city, for example, you onlyneed to fill in the city and country. You willthen be guided to the center of the city.

4. Select any available field and use the centerdisplay's keyboard to type:

• Country/State/Province

• City/Territory/Zip code

• Address

• Number

• Junction

Entering a destination with a freetext searchA destination can be set in different ways in thenavigation system* - with free text searching, forexample, a search can be made using phonenumbers, postal codes, streets, cities, coordi-

nates and points of interest (POI7).

The on-screen keyboard can be used to typemost characters and to search for destinations.

1. When the map appears, expand the toolbarusing the down arrow on the left-hand sideand tap Set dest.


2. Enter a search word in the search box or limitthe search results by choosing a filter.

> The search results will be listed as youtype.

3. If the search provided the desired result -tap a search result to display its informationcard and select to continue using the searchresult.

If the search provided too many results -tap Advanced filter to select a position tosearch around and then select a searchresult to continue using it.

• Around vehicle

• Around destination – only displayed if adestination has been set.

• Along route – only displayed if a destina-tion has been set.

• Around point on map

CoordinatesA destination can also be entered using mapcoordinates.

• Enter coordinates, e.g. "N 58.1234 E12.5678" and tap Search.

Compass directions N, E, S and W can beentered in different ways, e.g.:

N 58,1234 E 12,5678 (with space)

N58,1234 E12,5678 (without space)

58,1234N 12,5678E (with compass direc-tions after the coordinates)

58,1234-12,5678 (with hyphen without com-pass direction)

Either a dot [.] or a comma [,] can be used.








Entering a POI as a destinationA destination can be specified in different waysin the navigation system* - selecting a point of

interest (POI8) is one of them.1. When the map appears, expand the toolbar



2. Tap POI.

3. Tap the desired filter (some alternatives areonly shown when a destination or waypoint isspecified):

• Near the vehicle

• Near the destination

• Near waypoint

• Along route

• Around point on map

4. Scroll to the desired POI and select it.

5. Select Start navigation or Add aswaypoint.

Many POI (e.g. restaurants) have sub-categories(e.g. fast food).

Which POI are shown on the map can bechanged via the map settings. This setting doesnot affect searches for POI to be used as desti-nations (even POI that have not been selectedfor display can be shown here as alternate desti-nations).

Certain POI will only appear on the map if thescale is greater than 1 km (1 mile).

NOTE

• The symbols, number and variants ofPOIs vary between different markets.

• In connection with map data updating,some symbols may be added and othersdisappear – all symbols for the map sys-tem in question can be found through themenu system.








Entering a destination usingRecent/Favorites/LibraryA destination can be specified in different waysin the navigation system* - selecting from a list isone of them.1. When the map appears, expand the toolbar



2. Select one of these lists at the top of thescreen:

• Recent

• Favorites

• Library

After an option in a list has been marked, it canbe added as a destination by tapping either theStart navigation or Add as waypoint button.

RecentThis is a list of previous searches. Scroll throughthe list and select.

This is also available as a menu option in theinstrument panel and can be displayed using theright-side steering wheel keypad.

To edit the list, tap Edit.

FavoritesThis is a list of locations that have been set asfavorites from the Library. Scroll through the listand select.

A position that has been deleted in Favorites willremain in Library, but with a grayed-out star. Toreturn a position to Favorites, go to Library andmark the position's star again.

Use Set Home address to program a fre-quently used destination. An entered Home des-tination is also available as a menu option in theinstrument panel and can be displayed using theright-side steering wheel keypad.

To edit the list, tap Edit.

LibraryThis is a list of saved locations and itineraries.The most recently saved will be shown at the topof the list.

Tap the location's star to select/deselect it as afavorite. A location with a selected (filled in) starwill also be displayed under the Favorites head-ing.

If a location is deleted in Library, it will also bedeleted in Favorites.

The Library can be sorted in various ways:

• Added - sort in chronological order.

• Name - sort in alphabetical order.

• Distance - sort according to distance fromthe vehicle's current location.

• Received - locations sent to the vehicleusing the Send to Car function will be filteredout. New unread locations have a BLUEmarker that is grayed out once the positionshave been read.

Use Edit to delete one or more items in the list.








Entering a destination with Send toCarThere are several ways to set a destination.Using the Send to Car function is one of them.

Sending a location to the vehicleThe Send to Car function makes it possible toadd a destination/location to the vehicle's navi-gation system* from a computer.

Send to Car can also be performed using theVolvo On Call app. Volvo On Call can also beused to send a destination/location to the vehiclefrom a Volvo On Call customer service center.

Please note that the procedure shown here isonly one example from one of several map serv-ice providers.

1. Go to wego.here.com on the computer.

> A map service will open.

2. Search for the desired location.

3. Right-click the location and then click theaddress.

> A side menu/information card will open.

4. Click Share in the side menu.

5. Click Send to car in the side menu.

6. Select the vehicle and enter the vehicle's VINnumber or the email address registered toyour Volvo ID. Then click Send.

7. Click Finish.

> The location will be sent to the vehicle.

Receiving and using a location in thevehicleIn order for the vehicle to receive data, it must beconnected to the Internet. See the instructions inthe Owner's Manual. If the location was sent tothe vehicle using Volvo On Call, the vehicle's inte-grated modem will be used to receive the data,i.e. no other Internet connection is required.

1. When the vehicle has received a location, anotification will appear in the center display.Tap the notification/symbol.

> An information card will open.

2. Select how you would like to use the loca-tion.

Using a stored locationReceived locations are saved in the navigationsystem's library for later use.








ItineraryThe itinerary is the route that the navigation sys-tem* suggests when the user enters a destina-tion.The first location set will be the itinerary's desti-nation (final destination).

The next locations set will be the itinerary's way-points (intermediate stops along the route).

An itinerary and its destination and waypoints canbe easily edited at any time.

Viewing points of interest along therouteA list of points of interest (POI9) along yourroute can be displayed in the navigation system*.

1. Tap Ahead.

2. Tap POI.

> POIs along the route are displayedaccording to their distance from the vehi-cle.

3. If there are multiple POIs in the same loca-tion, they will be displayed as a group. Tapthe group for a list of the POIs.

4. Select a POI.

5. Select one of the information card's optionsand follow the instructions.

Show guidance in the itineraryA list of coming guidance points helps the driverprepare in advance for upcoming maneuvers,e.g. moving into the correct lane before making aturn.To display a list of upcoming turns in the itineraryin the navigation system*:

1. Expand the toolbar using the down arrow onthe left-hand side.

2. Expand the toolbar further using the threedots.

3. Tap the Turn-by-Turn symbol (see image).

A list of guidance points on the itinerary will bedisplayed instead of the toolbar (you can scrollthrough the list). Tap the arrow pointing to theleft to minimize the list.

The next guidance point is always shown at thetop of the list.

Tap one of the guidance points in thelist to show the location on the map.Tap the map's crosshairs (see image)to return to the map guidance view,

where the map shows the vehicle's current loca-tion.

Traffic disruptions on map*10

The navigation system receives information ontraffic events and traffic disruptions and displaysthese on the map.

NOTE

Traffic information is not available in allareas/countries.

Coverage areas for traffic information is con-tinuously extended.

It is possible to make settings to determine whichtraffic-related information is shown on the map.

Traffic disruptions, such as congested and slow-moving traffic, road work and accidents, areshown with different symbols when the map iszoomed in.

Road construction, for example, is indi-cated by this symbol. Sections of roadwith major traffic disruptions are alsoshown with a red line on the side of the

road affected. The line also indicates which direc-tion of traffic is affected. If the disruption affectsboth directions of traffic, the section of road ismarked with red lines on both sides of the road.

Information on traffic disruptions– Tap the traffic disruption symbol.

> An information card will be displayed.Information may include e.g. the locationof the traffic disruption with the streetname/road number and its type/extent/duration.

Avoiding traffic disruptionsIf there are traffic disruptions along the route, theAvoid option can be selected. The system willthen calculate an alternate route.

Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI)11

If the vehicle is connected to the Internet,enhanced traffic information can be retrievedusing RTTI.

Show traffic disruptions along therouteA list of traffic disruptions along the route can beshown when a destination has been entered inthe navigation system*.

1. When the map appears, expand the left-sidetoolbar using the down arrow and then thethree dots.

2.

Tap Ahead.

3. Tap Traffic. If there are no traffic problemsalong your route, the traffic button will begrayed out.

> Any traffic problems along the route willbe displayed according to their distancefrom the vehicle.

4. For additional information about a traffic dis-ruption, tap the row to open an informationcard. Select one of the information card'soptions and follow the instructions.

5. Tap Avoid to avoid the traffic disruption.

> The route will be recalculated and guid-ance will begin for the new route.

Selecting a detour during mapnavigation*Select a detour to avoid the next section of theroute, e.g. if the road is closed.1. Expand the left-side toolbar using the down

arrow and then the three dots.

2.

Tap the Detour symbol to display an alter-nate route with information on the new dis-tance and estimated travel time. Normally,only short detours are suggested to take youquickly back to your original itinerary.

3. To accept the suggested detour: Tap thesign with the detour information. The route isalso accepted if you begin driving the sug-gested route. Once the suggestion has beenaccepted, guidance will resume using thedetour as the new route. If you do notaccept the suggestion, continue driving theoriginal route.

Instead of choosing Detour, you can insteadselect another route and leave your itinerary'scurrent route. The system will update the routeautomatically and continue guidance to your des-tination along the most suitable route.

It is also possible to display an alternative routewhile driving.

Real Time Traffic Information(RTTI)12

When the vehicle is connected to the Internet,the driver can access enhanced traffic informa-

tion (RTTI13).Information on traffic events and flow is continu-ously gathered from mobile apps, public authori-ties and GPS data from the vehicle. When a vehi-cle requests traffic flow information, anonymousdata about traffic flow in the vehicle's location isalso provided, which helps enable the service tofunction. Anonymous data is only sent when RTTIis activated.

The amount of traffic information shown on themap depends on the distance to the vehicle andis only shown within approximately 120 km(75 miles) from the vehicle's location.

Text and symbols on the map are displayed in theusual way and the traffic flow shows how fast thetraffic is moving on a road in comparison with theroad's speed limit. The traffic flow is shown onthe map on each side of the road with a coloredline in each direction.

When the vehicle is connected to the Internet,the driver can access enhanced traffic informa-

tion (RTTI15) in the navigation system*.To activate or deactivate RTTI:

1. Tap Settings in the center display's Topview.

2. Tap Navigation Traffic.

3. Select Real Time Traffic Information toactivate (replace regular traffic informationwith RTTI) or deactivate RTTI.

4. One pop-up window with the heading Termsand conditions and one with the headingData sharing will appear if RTTI is beingused for the first time.

If the vehicle's Internet connection is lost whenRTTI is activated, regular traffic information willbe automatically activated. RTTI will be reactiva-ted when the vehicle is once again connected tothe Internet.

Map updatingMapCare is a map update service for Volvo vehi-cles equipped with Sensus Navigation*.

General update informationThere are two ways to update maps. Either via acomputer and USB flash drive or directly from thevehicle22 (if the vehicle has an Internet connec-tion).

The vehicle's map is divided into a number offixed regions. When updating map data, the driverdoes not need to update all of these regions, butcan instead choose to update only one or morespecific regions.

One or more regions can be updated when thevehicle has an Internet connection. However,updating a large number of regions or the entiremap requires a significant amount of data, and itmay be advisable to use a computer and USBflash drive instead.

NOTE

If an itinerary includes more than one region,all regions should have the same versionnumber to enable the system to calculate thebest route to the destination.

Updating the map structureChanging the map structure may sometimes benecessary, e.g., if a region is added or if a largeregion is divided into smaller ones. If this is thecase, normal updates of individual regions maynot be possible and a message will be displayedexplaining what has happened.

In this situation, the entire map must be reinstal-led from a USB flash drive. For additional infor-mation, see the Volvo Cars support site(support.volvocars.com) or contact a Volvoretailer.

Updating navigation system softwareIn addition to maps, the navigation system's ownsoftware is under constant development andneeds to be updated occasionally. This couldmean that a recently downloaded map is not sup-ported by the current navigation system software.In such cases, a message will be displayed indi-cating that the navigation system software mustbe updated. Consult a Volvo retailer for assis-tance with the update.

ted when the ignition is switched off, the updatewill continue the next time the vehicle is driven.

Updating1. Activate the navigation system.

2. Connect the USB flash drive to the vehicle'sUSB port. If there are two USB ports, theother port cannot be used at the same time.

3. The navigation system automatically detectsthat an update is available and, during theupdate of the whole map database, shows onthe screen what percentage of the process iscomplete.

> When individual regions are updated, theupdate will start immediately.

To start an update of the entire map data-base, tap Confirm. Tap Cancel to stopthe installation.

4. Tap Confirm. The update of the entire mapdatabase will begin and progress informationwill be shown on the center display.

5. The center display will indicate when theupdate is finished. Remove the USB flashdrive from the port.

6. Restart the infotainment system.

7. Verify that the correct map data has beentransferred to the vehicle by repeating thesteps described above under "Determiningthe current map version".

InterruptionsIf an update is interrupted, an explanatory text willalways appear in the center display.

The vehicle's location on the map is notcorrectThe navigation system displays the vehicle's loca-tion with an accuracy of approximately 20 meters(65 ft).

Accuracy may be reduced slightly when drivingon a road that is parallel with another road, wind-ing roads, multi-level roads and long stretches ofroad with no distinct curves.

High mountains, buildings, tunnels, viaducts,interchanges, multi-level roads, etc. may alsoaffect the satellite signal reception, which mayalso reduce the system's ability to accurately cal-culate the vehicle's location.

The system does not always calculatethe fastest/shortest routeRoute calculation takes into account factors suchas distance, road width, type of road, traffic inten-sity and speed limits to find the theoretically bestpossible route. Familiarity with an area and expe-rience may enable the driver to find a more effi-cient route.

The system uses e.g. toll roads orhighways even though I have chosen toavoid themWhen calculating longer routes over greater dis-tances, the system may choose major roads fortechnical reasons.

If you have chosen to avoid toll roads and high-ways, these will be avoided whenever possibleand only used when no other viable option isavailable.

After being transported, the vehicle'slocation on the map is not correctIf the vehicle is transported on e.g. a ferry or train,or if satellite signals have been blocked for someother reason, it may take up to 5 minutes beforethe vehicle's location can be accurately calcula-ted.

The vehicle symbol moves erratically onthe screen after changing tiresIn addition to satellite signals, the vehicle'sspeedometer and a gyroscopic sensor are alsoused to calculate location, speed and direction oftravel. If any of the tires are changed, e.g. a sparetire or snow tires have been installed, the systemneeds to "learn" the new tire dimensions.

To help ensure the system functions optimally,Volvo recommends driving for a short period onroads with good satellite reception (clear view).

The map does not represent actualroad conditionsBecause road changes/additions/rerouting, newtraffic regulations, etc. are always being imple-mented, the map database may not be up todate.

The database is continuously being updated andimproved. Check regularly for updates.

The vehicle symbol jumps around orspinsThe system may need a few seconds to deter-mine the vehicle's location before you start driv-ing.
