• Nuevos Eventos sociales parroquiales

DIOCESE OF TUCSON DECREE This year, the Feast of St. Patrick, March 17, falls on a Friday in Lent. Given the many celebrations that oc-cur on this day, in accord with the norm of law, I herewith grant to all Catholics of the Diocese of Tucson, as well as all present here that day, a dispensation from abstinence from meat and meat products.

I urge all who make use of this dis-pensation to engage in another sacrifi-cial or charitable act that day such as

♦ a prayerful visit to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament

♦ visiting someone who is sick or in prison

♦ reaching out to a friend or neigh-bor in need

As we continue this Lenten journey, I encourage us all to see Christ in one another, no matter the circumstances.

ENNEAGRAM SEMINAR THURSDAY, MARCH 30 9 AM — 3 PM During this Lent, would you like to learn about a helpful tool for spiritual growth? Sister Karen Berry, who has been teaching adult religion classes here for many years, will be giving an all-day Enneagram Seminar. The Greek word "Enneagram" means nine points, and this seminar will teach the characteristics of nine basic personality types so that people not only understand themselves better, but also become more understanding and tolerant of others. Included in the seminar is a way to reflect on the Divine Image that is each person's lifelong challenge to mirror.

Participants will get insights into finding God present in their woundedness in order to move toward healing and spiritual growth. This Lenten journey can be very inspirational. The cost for the seminar is $30. To get more information or to register, contact Sister Karen at 520-888-2593 or [email protected].

SAVE THE DATE - SEDER MEAL The RCIA team will host a Seder Meal in the Parish Hall the evening of April 11 at 6:30 PM. All parishioners are invited to experience this ritual of our ancestors in faith but seating is limited. February 24-26 was this year’s Los Angeles Religious Education Congress (LA RECongress) in Anaheim, California.

It was my first time experiencing an LA Congress. I am glad that I went with Carol Padilla, our Director of Religious Ed, because she knew where everything was and we didn't get lost. LA Congress is for Ministers of Religious Education, though anyone who wants to enrich his or her faith formation are encouraged to attend. The Congress began with beautiful praise and worship, and welcome messages from the DRE of the Archdioceses of LA Archbishop Gomes, and Bishop Vann. This year’s theme was to “Embrace Trust.” It was very nice to see how inclusive they were towards all of us by providing music and some talks in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and sign language.

The classes that I attended were mostly on youth ministry. I recruited some new tools to help me in my ministry. It was nice to know that we are on the right track, when it comes to ministering to our teens.

They provided a sacred space on the third floor dedicated to Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si' (On Care for Our Common Home). It had a multimedia art exhibit that invited us to connect our faith with Mother Earth and with one another. This place also included a chapel for adoration, a labyrinth, and a space dedicated for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was a peaceful and spiritual place. You could

feel the presence of our Beloved Savior within our brothers and sisters in Christ.

They also had multicultural exhibits on the second floor that represented all of the beloved child of God.

There was an exhibit hall filled with a variety of Catholic items to purchase. There were concerts during lunch and in

the evenings. They had beautiful prayer experiences like Taizé prayer, and a talk by Sr. Rose Marie Tulacz, SND, called Sacred Illuminations. She used mystical choreography of light and sound incorporating liturgical and fine art photography and reflections to pray.

One of our favorite speakers was, Fr. Tony Ricard. I have had the privilege of hearing him at conferences in the past. Fr. Tony is from New Orleans. He has a very animated and charismatic personality. In typical “Father Tony” fashion, he began his talk with lively music and a “G” version of a Mardi Gras environment. During his talk, he shared stories about his faith and his mama

who died last year when he was at this Congress. He remembers that at young age his Mama used to tell him, “Remember where you came from, and don’t do something stupid.” He said that he never knew that his mama was telling everything with those words. Reminding him that he belonged to God, and that she taught him right from wrong, so he knew what making good choices looked like. She said, “If you decide to do something that is wrong then you are stupid.” Well, Carol and I loved the wisdom of Fr. Tony’s mama so much that we purchased the same t-shirts.

I really enjoyed this LA Congress, except for one thing! On Saturday night, they had a dance for young adults, ages 18-39, which of course meant I couldn't go. What were they thinking, that those of us 40 years and older don’t enjoy dancing? I hope I get to dance next year!

A MESSAGE ABOUT THE FINANCIAL HEALTH OF YOUR PARISH

In the past two years, our parish has made some significant infrastructure improvements

• Additional exit road from the church to ease traffic congestion

• Patio gathering area

• New sound system

• Upgraded security system

Spiritually, our increased efforts focused on our ministries have benefited those in the parish and those outside our parish

• More education opportunities

• Expanded outreach efforts

• New parish social events

None of this is free.

Our costs have been increasing…

Buildings and equipment are aging with resulting higher maintenance and repair costs

• Cost of general supplies have been on the rise

• Cost of living increases in salaries

• Medical insurance cost increases

The number of registered families in our parish has remained relatively constant over the last couple years but we are seeing some trends that are having a negative impact on the financial strength of the parish and have become a cause for concern.

• About 40% of our families are not contributing financially. In the past about 30% did not contribute.

• Parishioners who do contribute are giving at the same level as in the past.

• As of January of this year, Offertory is below budget by over $30,000 and is also behind last year’s trends.

YOUR PARISH NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

First, we are asking that every family try and contribute something. Even $1 a week would help. In addition, if every family in the parish increased their weekly offering by $1 per week, we could maintain our financial health and con-tinue to meet all the needs of our parish. We are not asking anyone to contribute MORE than you can afford. We are asking you to examine your budget, and examine your priorities, and do your best to give what you CAN afford to help us meet our future financial commitments.
