of 68 miles when running under battery power alone, plus a potential top speed of 205mph and blistering accelera-tion. The car dem-onstrates that it is possible to retain Jaguar’s core values of performance, design and luxury using technol-ogy that will make environment al ly responsible perfor-mance and electric vehicles a practical proposition.

The aim was to produce not only the most innova-tive but also one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever; one which hints at an exciting evolution of the marque’s award-winning design language while paying hom-age to some of its most admired cars of years gone by. Advanced design features such as a ground-breaking propulsion system and active aerody-namics allow for an elegantly sim-ple fuselage sec-tion that remains stable at very high speeds.

The C-X75’s 778bhp propulsion system combines powerful 195bhp electric motors at each wheel for outstanding per-formance. At the center of the car sit state-of-the-art, mid-mounted micro gas-turbines. These can either generate 188bhp to charge the batteries and extend the range of the

car to a remarkable 560 miles or when in Track mode provide supplementary power directly to the electric motors. The four electric motors provide torque-

vectored, all-wheel drive traction and grip, essential in a car that produces 778bhp and 1180lb ft of torque.

Finished in Jetstream Silver, the C-X75’s beautiful proportions, sculpted

lines and powerful stance have been created, in the words of Julian Thomson, Assistant Design Director and head of the Jaguar Advanced Design Studio, to

”pull at the same emotional heart-strings as classic Jaguars such as the D-Type and XJ13 racers.”

The C-X75 borrows more than simply ele-gant looks from previous classic designs, how-ever, for those cars were equally respected for the purity of their engineering. C-X75 has been cre-ated to indicate the future for luxury carmakers such as Jaguar. It shows that it is

possible to retain core brand values while offering zero

emissions motor-ing for much of the time, as well as range-extend-ing technologies that will make electric vehicles significantly more practical.

S h o r t e r , slimmer and lower than the current crop of supercars, its exterior design is about pure p e r f o r m a n c e with a simple central fuselage surrounded by prominent whee-larches. Thanks to the packaging

efficiencies provided by the absence of a conventional piston engine, the car’s designers had maximum freedom in placing the mechanical components and creating the most elegant engineer-

“The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar. You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get and we believe it is a worthy homage to 75 years of iconic Jaguar design.” Ian Callum, Design Director, Jaguar Cars

ing package available. Consequently the car has the most perfect propor-tions and sense of balance possible with a compact cabin placed centrally between the dramatic wheel arches. The lines of the supercar are purposeful and agile, suggesting a sense of move-ment and poise.

The car’s interior is equally impres-sive, with the driver and passenger seat-ed ahead of a sealed airbox that houses the micro gas-turbines. The seats are fixed to the bulkhead as in a single-seat-er race car, and air to feed the turbines passes smoothly around them via chan-nels in the structure of the body. With the seats anchored in place, the steering wheel, controls, and pedal box all adjust towards the driver.

Dramatic theater lighting is acti-

vated as the driver approaches the car; phosphor blue electro-luminescent wire lights illuminate the perimeter of the cabin and the turbines. When the car is started, additional blue LED lighting gently floods the door and bulkhead speaker cavities, highlighting the car’s lightweight construction. Interior mate-

rials include cream and grey leathers, polished and vapor-blasted alu-minum and a soft-feel textured neoprene.

A new interface for the driver has also been created for the C-X75 using high-resolu-

tion TFT screens. Building on Jaguar’s 10-year expertise in touchscreen tech-nology, the Jaguar Co-Pilot display in the center console supports the driver in extracting the full potential of the C-X75 by seamlessly managing information.

Just as the XJ13 acted a test-bed for a new engine, the C-X75 offers simi-larly positive and inspiring potential solutions to the challenges posed by environmental concerns. Performance cars have always aimed for efficiencies in terms of weight, agility and dynamics, all of which also benefit economy. Using previously unseen combinations of tech-nology, the C-X75 supercar provides a glimpse into the future of Jaguar and its commitment to producing beautiful, fast cars powered by sustainable means. n

“The C-X75 is a tribute to the people who shaped the iconic Jaguars that are revered to this day. By making it an innovative test-bed for the technologies of tomorrow, it also ensures that our reputation for engineering excellence will continue for another 75 years and beyond.” Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director, Jaguar Cars

On September 27 President Obama signed the Small Business Jobs Act which, among other things, con-tains the framework for a new SBA Dealer Floorplan Program (DFP). NADA is working with the SBA to develop the new floorplan program which is expected to be rolled out before year-end.

Eligible loan amounts will be from $500,000 to $5 million with a 100% advance rate, a five-year term, reduced fees, and guarantees up to 75% (other 7(a) loans have guarantees up to 90%). The Act also sets a new maximum alter-

'Small Business Jobs Act' to Benefit Auto Dealersnative size standard of $15 million net worth and $5 million in net income as measured over two years.

In addition to a new Small Business Lending Fund and a new State Small Business Credit Initiative, the Act:

• Eliminates capital gains taxes on investments held for five years for the rest of 2010.

• Increases to $500,000 the amount of capital investment businesses may immediately write off in 2010 and 2011, and raises to $2 million the level at which the write-off phases out.

• Extends the provision for 50%

“bonus depreciation” through 2010, thus accelerating the rate at which capi-tal expenditures can be deducted.

• Allows cell phone use to be deducted without burdensome docu-mentation.

• Allows certain small businesses to “carry back” general business cred-its to offset five years of taxes, while also allowing these credits to offset the Alternative Minimum Tax.

• Changes the penalty for failing to report certain tax transactions from a fixed dollar amount to a percentage of the tax benefits from the transaction.n

EPA Issues Notice of Comment Period, Listening Session Regarding Hexavalent Chromium Toxicological Review Draft

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a 60-day public comment period and a public lis-tening session for the draft human health assessment of a toxicological review of hexavalent chromium. Hexavalent chromium (Cr6), a metal used in many industries - including automotive service and repair due to welding, sanding and grinding of some motor vehicle parts - can be toxic and is considered to be a carcinogen when inhaled. The ques-tion for the EPA is whether to adopt a strict risk measure as California did or to adhere more to a less-stringent stan-

dard.The Occupational Safety and

Health Administration (OSHA) issued standards in 2006 that limited workplace exposure to hexavalent chromium. It has been determined by OSHA that average levels of the substance that workers are exposed to today places them at signifi-cant health risks.

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) expressed concern about the lowering of the permissible level because of the lack of data as to the potential economic impact the lower level will have on collision members.

Collision shop employees use many refinishing products in their shops as well as sand, grind and weld vehicle parts. Each of these procedures presents the opportunity for hexavalent chro-mium to exist.

The public listening session is to be held Nov. 20 of this year.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a Notice of Intent (NOI) Oct. 1, 2010, regarding fuel econo-my and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for cars and small trucks man-ufactured between the year 2017 and 2025. According to the EPA, this national program continues the administration’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase fuel efficiency and reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil. The EPA claims the initiative will help make it possible for manufacturers to build a single national fleet of cars and light trucks that satisfies all federal and California standards, while ensuring that consumers have a full range of vehicle choices.

NHTSA, the EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) made an

interim technical assessment that details different potential outcomes. The assess-ment, developed through extensive dialogue with automobile manufactur-ers and suppliers, non-governmental organizations, state and local govern-ments, and labor unions, takes into con-sideration the costs and effectiveness of applicable technologies, compliance flexibilities available to manufactur-ers, potential impacts on auto industry jobs, and the infrastructure needed to support advanced technology vehicles. The EPA and DOT state in the techni-cal assessment that they will issue an interim report in November with further details regarding the new fuel economy standards for vehicles manufactured in 2017 and afterward.

The final rule for the intended stan-dards is scheduled for almost two years from now, and there are several things that will determine how extensive the

restrictions will be. One of these major factors is the extent of time it takes for the automotive industry to develop elec-tric vehicles and other advanced tech-nology. Currently there are 245 million registered vehicles in the United States. Only 1.6 million of these vehicles are hybrids, and only 33,000 of those are fully electric. Currently, cars are required to attain 27.5 miles per gallon. The EPA announced just last year fuel economy standards that increase the current aver-age mpg required from 27.5 to 35.5 by 2016. The administration expects to have a final rule by July 2012.

Lisa Jackson, EPA administrator, said: “Continuing the successful clean cars program will accelerate the envi-ronmental benefits, health protections and clean technology advances over

When it comes to a pure, seductive expres-sion of intense p e r f o r m a n c e , many Infiniti vehicles likely come to mind. But perhaps none embodies the idea of “Inspired P e r f o r m a n c e ” better than the Infiniti G Coupe – which is designed to stir the soul through an unmatched combination of dynamic design, exhilarating per-formance and a modern, luxuriously crafted interior. And, if all that isn’t enough, the 2010 G Coupe adds a number of significant enhancements including a revised inte-rior and upgraded navigation and enter-tainment systems.

The G Coupe is again offered in four exciting models: G37 Coupe, G37 Coupe Journey, G37S Coupe Sport 6MT and G37x Coupe AWD – each equipped with a standard 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift) rated at 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Three models are offered with a standard performance-oriented 7-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport (DS) Mode, Downshift Rev Matching and available solid magne-sium paddle shifters. The G37 Coupe Sport 6MT comes with a responsive, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmis-sion.

Enhancements for the 2010 model year are primarily concentrated inside the beautiful G Coupe body. The previ-ous “Washi” aluminum trim is replaced by a new “Shodo” style trim, inspired by the traditional art of Japanese cal-ligraphy, on all models. The previous African Rosewood wood accents have been replaced by new, high-gloss Maple Accents. Other changes include the

addition of standard 8-way power passen-ger seats on all mod-els, a new center con-sole design on auto-matic transmission-equipped models and a number of package content changes, such as the addition of the Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster™ air purifier to the Technology Package and making RearView Monitor standard on most models.

“Our goal is to always keep mov-ing ahead, always keep our vehicles fresh with new designs and new tech-nologies,” said Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Business Unit. “There’s no better example of this philosophy than the enhanced 2010 G line.”

Highly Seductive StylingWith the third year of its second-

generation design, the G37 Coupe's stun-ningly seductive styling is recognized around the world. The smooth, aero-dynamic design offers a kinetic feeling with an emotional surface expression, while the sweeping character lines and tight panel gap lines provide a rich, high

The Hayes Automotive fam-ily has extended their parts busi-ness yet again adding brand name replacement mechanical parts for all makes and models to their parts line-up. Hayes is now undeniably a total parts supply solution for their customers.

From its beginnings as a garage and body shop in Decatur, Georgia to its current status as the world’s largest Mopar parts opera-tion, Hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep has focused on understanding the needs of the customers and deliv-ering top-notch service according to Parts Department Manager, Alan Yancey. Hayes’ motto has long been “Welcome to the Family”, and the parts department is an integral and growing branch on the Hayes family tree.

Thirty-nine years ago, broth-ers A.D. and Donald Hayes started the business with two employees in the parts department. Fast forward to 2010 - the parts department at Hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep now employs 52 people. In addition to the facility in Lawrenceville, Hayes has two General Motor’s dealer-ships and two other Chrysler loca-tions in Georgia. To satisfy the needs of the new mechanical parts business an increase in warehouse

space was required, so they expanded their distribution center location adding 20,000 additional square feet.

To launch the new mechanical parts group, Chuck Garner, Aftermarket Parts Manager, arranged an open house for employees and suppliers complete with door prizes and breakfast. “We are very excited about the new business segment and want everyone to see our commitment, meet our suppliers and share in the excite-ment. Our partnerships with TYC, Global Parts Distributors, and Bumper to Bumper have really come together. With their help we have refined our inventory and come up with the formula to meet our custom-ers’ needs. Not only fast moving parts but also a depth of inventory was important to us to meet our goal of a total solution. The support of all the vendors has been great,” said Garner.

“Delivering quality parts through peo-ple who care about our customers is what we have been about over the last 40 years. We believe at the Hayes family that every-one comes to work everyday for our cus-tomers. One call for every make and model, any parts they need. It’s that simple,” added Alan Yancey.

OEM parts; certified aftermarket parts; experienced sales staff; rapid, dependable delivery; dedication to customer satisfac-tion; and now brand name mechanical parts all combine to make Hayes Automotive Group a unique parts supply solution.n

clock and dramatic, full-length center console with a leather and aluminum-clad shifter. The new Shodo aluminum-alloy interior trim is featured on the instrument panel, center console and door panels.

The instrument panel includes Infiniti electroluminescent instrumenta-tion with new white illumination and integrated multi-function information drive computer display (average fuel consumption, real-time fuel economy, average speed, elapsed time, running distance, distance to empty, outside air temperature, warning displays, odometer and automatic trans-mission shift indi-cator).

The double h a n d - s t i t c h e d leather- covered steering wheel is designed for max-imum comfort and usability, with standard wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. The 8-way power driver and front passenger seats are appointed with Infiniti’s exclusive premium leath-er and feature 2-way adjustable head restraints and a unique rear-seat access system (the front seats move forward automatically at the touch of a button to allow passengers into the rear seats).

Technological and convenience features abound in the G37 Coupe, including standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, Remote Keyless Entry system, a tilt/telescoping steering column with increased travel, illuminated glove compartment and automatic temperature control. Also

standard is a 6-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System (RDS) and center console-

mounted auxiliary input, as well as a 7-inch color display and standard XM® Satellite Radio.

E x h i l a r a t i n g Performance, Intuitive All-Wheel Drive

At the core of the G Coupe’s stel-lar performance is its advanced 3.7-liter VQ37VHR V6 engine with VVEL (for Variable Valve Event and Lift) rated at 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response. The VVEL intake camshafts, featuring continu-ously variable lift control teamed with the Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), allow for a 7,500 rpm redline.

The engine also features increased cylinder block height (from the previous

3.5-liter design), ladder frame construc-

tion for greater rigidity, large crank journal and pin diameters, asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors, an electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throt-tle system, lightweight pistons, Iridium spark plugs and a sym-metric twin air intake system.

The specially tuned dual exhaust system features equal length exhaust manifolds and low muffler exhaust backpres-sure to help improve engine breathing. Both intake and exhaust enhance driving plea-

sure with their authentic performance notes.

“The G Coupe’s 3.7-liter V6 is a true powerhouse – becoming more enjoy-able as you drive it,” said Poore. “The engine also features Infiniti’s distinctive ‘Swell’ acceleration – with special tuning that builds horsepower almost continu-ally to the redline like a building wave.”

The foundation for the G Coupe’s impressive handling and ride perfor-mance comes from its second-genera-tion FM (Front Mid-ship) platform. The 4-wheel independent suspension design features lightweight aluminum compo-nents and large front and rear stabilizer bars.

Responsive steering is provided by a vehicle-speed-sensing design, which provides optimum steering effort at both high and low vehicle speeds. Standard on all G37 Coupes is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), which assists in enhanc-ing vehicle stability under a variety of driving conditions.n

The instrument panel includes Infiniti electrolu-minescent instrumentation with new white illu-mination.

ASA Reminds Collision Shops of Automotive Paint Regulation Compliance DeadlineBy Jan. 11, 2010, collision repair

shops were required to file an Initial Notification with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and/or their state in compliance with the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), Paint Stripping and Miscellaneous Surface Coating Operations Rule. For an existing affect-ed source, the compliance deadline is Jan. 10, 2011, and full compliance status is due by March 11, 2011. These rules became effective in January 2008.

In September 2007, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued proposed air toxics standards for smaller emitting sources. These emitting sources were referred to as area sources, and were involved in three industry sec-

tors, including paint stripping and sur-face coating operations.

Area sources are defined as those having the potential to emit less than 10 tons per year of a single toxic air pollut-ant or less than 25 tons per year of any combination of toxic air pollutants.

Sources affected by the rule need to implement equipment and man-agement practices in compliance with the new standards. The practices both reduce toxic material consumption and produce a savings to the facility. The restrictions include the following rules:

• For paint stripping operations, the proposed rules would also require new and existing area sources to imple-ment management practices that mini-mize evaporative loss of MeCl. Existing

area sources consuming more than 150 gallons per year of paint stripping formu-lation must also develop and implement a minimization plan designed to reduce their consumption of MeCl by identifying alternatives, when possible.

• For surface coating operations, the proposed rule would also require new and existing area sources to imple-ment equipment and management prac-tices that minimize the amount of coat-ing required and to capture toxic metal particulates from the process. The toxic metal compounds are those containing cadmium, chromium, lead, manganese and nickel. The equipment practices include confining spray operations to

The Senate has passed “The Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010,” H.R. 5297, by a vote of 61-38. The House has agreed to the Senate version of H.R. 5297, by a vote of 237-187. The bill origi-nally passed the House on June 28, 2010, and then passed in the Senate Sept. 16 by a vote of 61-38 with changes. This leg-islation creates a $30 billion lending fund that will be distributed to regional banks, which will in turn lend to small busi-nesses. It also authorizes $12 billion in tax

House and Senate Pass Small Business Lending Fundcuts for small businesses. Advocates for the lending bill believe it will have a large impact on the U.S. economy, as small businesses employ approximately half of all Americans and account for almost 60 percent of gross domestic product.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, made the following comment on the pas-sage of the bill: “The passage of this bill is a long-awaited victory for the 27 million

small businesses in America. Upon signa-ture by the president, these businesses will benefit from $12 billion in immediate tax cuts. $12 billion will transfer from the federal treasury into the hands of small business owners to help them navigate these difficult financial times. It is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do.”

Rep. Melissa Bean, D-Ill., also com-mented on the passage of the bill by saying, “Jobs in our community are cre-

ated by businesses in our com-munity, and providing an envi-ronment for small-business growth is key to Congress’ mis-sion to strengthen our ongo-ing economic recovery.”

The U.S. Department of Treasury will be responsible for the small business lending fund. Some of the key pro-visions of Title 1 of the bill include:

• Requiring an applicant institution to provide informa-tion to the appropriate federal banking agency, as well as a small business lending plan, outlining how its business strategy and operating goals would allow it to address the needs of small businesses in the areas it serves;

• Setting forth financial incentives for small business lending by such institutions;

• Requiring capital invest-ment recipients to provide out-reach and advertising in the appropriate language of the applicant pool using media outlets that target organiza-tions, trade associations and individuals who represent or work within or are members of minority communities;

• Establishing the Small Business Lending Fund Program as separate and dis-tinct from TARP;

• Directing the secre-tary to study and report to Congress on the number of women-owned and minority-owned businesses that receive assistance as a result of the program.n

The American Military Society (AMS) requests that Congress support passage of the Motor Vehicle Owners Right to Repair Act (S 3181/HR 2057) on behalf of its membership which includes active, reserve, National Guard, retired and veterans of the uniformed services, their families and survivors.

“Military personnel and their fami-lies are often stationed in remote loca-tions far from any dealerships, relying on independent repair shops to service their vehicles,” said Charles C. Partridge, Col, USA (Ret) of AMS. “Spouses of deployed service members, holding their families together alone, are par-ticularly disadvantaged when their local auto repair shop is denied ready access to repair information from the car com-panies. Most do not have the time to find the nearest dealership, drive all the way there and wait for their sole source of transportation to be repaired. That is one more burden that military families

American Military Society Requests Congress Pass ‘Right to Repair Act’ to Support Military Families at Home

do not need to face. All consumers ben-efit from competition, but those serving our country and their families derive particular benefit from being able to obtain affordable, effective and conve-nient repairs for their vehicle.”

The Right to Repair Act protects motoring consumers from a growing and potentially hazardous vehicle repair monopoly by requiring that car com-panies provide full access at a reason-able cost to all non-proprietary service information, tools and safety-related bulletins needed to repair motor vehi-cles. The legislation provides car com-panies with strong protections for their trade secrets, only requiring them to make available the same diagnostic and repair information they provide their franchised dealers to the independent vehicle repair market.

“As cars become more complicated with more computer systems, the prob-lem becomes more acute,” continued

Partridge. “Selling a car without com-plete access to repair information is like selling prescription drugs without the doctor’s dosing instructions. It doesn’t make sense. That’s why we are asking Congress to rectify this situation and support passage of the Right to Repair Act. Our military families should not be forced back to the dealer for service and passage of Right to Repair would ensure that they can conveniently and afford-ably have their vehicles serviced at the shop of their choice.”

The Right to Repair Act has bipar-tisan support in both chambers of Congress. The Senate version of the bill (S 3181) was recently introduced by Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sam Brownback (R-KS) and has 5 co-spon-sors. The House version (HR 2057) was introduced by Reps. Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and George Miller (D-CA) and currently has 71 co-sponsors.n

Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) recently celebrated the launch of a second shift of production at its new West Point facility. KMMG hired more than 600 new team members to prepare for the addition of the second shift bringing the total number of jobs created at the plant to more than 2,000.

Kia Motors added the second shift in response to the successful sales of the 2011 Kia Sorento, which has been Kia's best-selling model in the U.S. every month since it debuted in January. The sec-

For 2010, a revolutionary new Tucson has joined the rapidly evolv-ing Hyundai product line. The sleek crossover from Hyundai, with its ath-letic European design, strikes a stark contrast from its predecessor and improves in every functional area, from its roomier cabin with extra cargo space to its leap in fuel economy and technol-ogy. Tucson fea-tures the com-pany’s “Fluidic S c u l p t u r e ” design lan-guage and is the first vehicle in Hyundai’s 24/7 version 2.0 product ini-tiative (seven all-new models by the end of 2011).

The all-new Tucson is the first Hyundai CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) to be designed and engineered in Europe at Hyundai’s Frankfurt-based design and technical centers. It features precedent-setting engineering including advanced weight saving technology and the eco-efficient Theta II 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivering up to 31 mpg on the high-way. True to Hyundai form, the Tucson applies life-saving safety technologies as standard equipment while offer-ing, for the first time, Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hillstart Assist Control (HAC). Likewise, to keep its passengers informed and comfortable Tucson inte-grates Hyundai’s first panoramic sun-roof, touch-screen navigation and a Bluetooth® hands-free phone system.

Key attributes of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy are the ath-leticism and sophistication that Tucson demonstrates through its flowing lines, full surfaces and muscular presence. This athletic design language is highlighted by bold, dynamic graphic elements such

All-New Tucson Delivers Better Fuel Economy And More Poweras the new Hyundai family hexagonal front grille, aggressive lower air intake, sculptured hood creases, swept back headlights, sleek greenhouse and wrap-around taillights.

The Tucson com-bines dynamic, sculpted, performance-oriented styling with thoughtful everyday utility to cre-ate a vehicle that will change the way consum-ers, especially younger car buyers, think about compact crossovers.

With an overall length of 173.2 inches, a width of 71.7 inches and a height of 66.3 inch-es (with roof rails), Tucson has a great stance and road presence. The design team fused a light, elegant and sporty upper body with belt lines flowing off both the front and rear wheel arches, to a tough, planted lower body so that it is assertive in the way it sits on the road.

The profile of Tucson features a sports car-like theme with a double-zig-zag treatment for the wheel arches that wrap around the available Euroflange 18-inch alloy wheels. The concave sills have

a wedge-shaped profile that extends rearward and wraps around into the rear bumper, a first of its kind design in a vehicle of this type. The profile is further enhanced by modern silver roof rails.

With high-mounted taillights, multi-surfaced glass and a sculpted bumper, the rear of Tucson also incorpo-rates dynamic design elements.

W o r l d - c l a s s weight efficiency was one of the pro-gram targets for the Tucson engineering team. In fact, the 2010 Tucson leads all of its competitors in weight efficiency. Hyundai engineers also targeted lead-ership in power-to-weight ratio. Having these targets paid huge dividends in both performance

and fuel economy. The 2010 Tucson’s athletic shape is

now complemented with more agile han-dling, responsive steering and improved body roll control. These enhancements make the new Tucson more fun-to-drive. Tucson uses MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension systems for more precise wheel control and a smoother ride. All four wheels are con-

Genuine Porsche Parts Delivered The Next Day

On October 7, 2010 Volkswagen of America, Inc. pre-sented the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County with two custom-made Jetta SportWagen TDI vehicles to each law enforce-ment department to help keep residents safe.

“Volkswagen is thrilled to be able to provide tech-nologically advanced Jetta SportWagen vehicles to both the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County police depart-ments to help keep the area safe while driving in a reliable, ver-satile and stylish vehicle,” said Frank Fischer, Chairman and CEO of Volkwagen’s Chattanooga Operations. “Volkswagen is com-mitted to continue building a longstanding relationship with the Chattanooga community and we know these vehicles will provide the officers of this area with the kind of performance they need to get the job done.”

“This generous gift is much appreciated and will be a wel-comed addition to our expand-ing Chattanooga Police Department,” said Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield.

Volkswagen Of America Donates Four Vehicles To Chattanooga Area Law Enforcement

“We applaud Volkswagen for their contin-ued investment in our community.”

“Since Volkswagen announced gift

of two law enforcement vehicles is further proof of Volkswagen’s commitment to Hamilton County and we thank them for their gen-erosity.”

Engineers and design-ers overhauled the white Jetta SportWagen vehicles to incorpo-rate features that would help the police. A sport styling body pack-age including a rear spoiler, and chrome exhaust tips to create a stylish and imposing presence.

Under the hood, the vehicle offers a potent 2.0L TDI clean diesel four-cylinder engine. The engine achieves an impressive 236 ft.-lbs. of torque through its turbo diesel engine and up to 42 miles per gal-lon on the highway.

The Jetta SportWagens also feature 225/40 18” Goodyear Eagle GT All Season tires mounted over Volkswagen’s own 18-inch Goal wheel package.

The interior features every-thing needed for Community Policing activities. FMS Automotive technicians expertly created cus-tom-built enclosures and mounts,

to hold all the communications and emer-gency lighting gear in place.n

I-CAR, the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair has announced that Porsche now requires I-CAR classroom training, the I-CAR Steel GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Series, and the I-CAR Structural Parts Steel Welding Qualification Series as components of the “Porsche Approved Collision Center Program”. Collision repair facilities that meet all standards of the program will be recognized as Porsche Approved Collision Centers.

Mike Kukavica, Coll ision Repair Technology Instructor said, “We are excited to be able to provide Porsche technicians with up-to-date collision repair training from I-CAR as part of the “Porsche Approved Collision Center Program”. With a strong background in some of today’s most commonly used materials and proce-dures, as well completion of two of I-CAR’s Welding Qualifications Series, technicians will be well-equipped to complete Porsche training and per-form quality repairs on Porsche vehicles.”

Individuals will receive I-CAR training on some of today’s most common collision repair procedures, as well as comprehensive welding instructions that includes theory, hands-on prac-tice, and the I-CAR Steel GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test and I-CAR Structural Parts Steel Welding Qualification Test. I-CAR training opportunities are offered as either an instructor-led course taught in the classroom or an online course.

Jason Bartanen,

Porsche Announces I-Car Training Requirements For TechniciansI-CAR Technical Director said, “I-CAR is delighted to provide its training as part of the ‘Porsche Approved Collision Center Program’. A strong foundation in the collision repair process will pro-vide Porsche technicians with the most current training information available and prepare them for their Porsche-specific training. As vehicle technology continually evolves, maintaining pace

is extremely important and continuous training can be one of the most power-ful ways to stay in touch with industry trends.”

To learn more about the “Porsche Approved Collision Center Program”, or to access the program website for a detailed listing of training requirements, visit the I-CAR website at www.i-car.com.n

Premier Paint 2000®, Inc. is proud to introduce the first water-borne Paint Chip and Scratch Repair System on the automotive paint market. This technol-ogy breakthrough is years ahead of the competition and exceeds EPA standards.

California and Canada, as well as a growing number of other U.S. states, are banning the use of solvent-based paints. Other foreign countries are already using water-based paint on their vehicles. This means that water-based paint is the future. Filling the need for a water-borne chip and scratch repair system that works has been a goal Premier Paint 2000®,

‘Green’ Automotive Paint Chip and Scratch Repair TechnologyInc. has been working toward for the last several years.

The problem has been to create a repair system that has a great color match, good fill and is a permanent repair. Premier Paint 2000® has devel-oped proprietary chemicals that reduce shrinkage and have the same properties as primer. When the chemicals are added to Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes they give the repair a 99% color match, 80%+ fill and it becomes a permanent repair. When used in conjunction with Premier Paint 2000®’s proprietary Scratch Compound to remove minor scratches

and its proprietary Diamond Cut Wax it gives a frontline finish with the WOW effect.

Premier Paint 2000®’s water-borne Paint Chip and Scratch Repair System works like their solvent-based Paint Chip and Scratch Repair System, which has con-tinued to make them the industry leader. It is applied with a proprietary applicator rather than a brush or an airbrush. Premier Paint 2000®’s UNIQUE APPLICATION PROCESS WITH PROPRIETARY CHEMICALS works in conjunction with Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes to create an exceptional repair. n

I-CAR, the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair has introduced its newest course, Inspecting Repairs for Quality Control (QUA01). The course offers industry profession-als the opportunity to learn how they can improve efficiency, enhance qual-ity, and reduce “come-backs” through an instructor-led course taught in the classroom.

Bill Stage, I-CAR Director of Marketing and Distribution said, “The importance of understanding the steps and considerations around conducting inspections both during and after the repair process is an important part of the quality control process. This training opportunity outlines these steps and helps industry professionals understand

I-Car Introduces Inspecting Repairs For Quality Control Coursehow they can enhance customer sat-isfaction through achieving complete, quality repairs - the first time.”

I-CAR Instructor, Roy Taylor added, “Many industry professionals will benefit from this course. In addition to repair facility supervisors and managers, those who are responsible for the repair qual-ity and completeness of repair network participants – like insurers, fleet manag-ers, and rental car companies will also find value in this training opportunity.”

Inspecting Repairs for Quality Control will help students:

• Explain the importance for con-ducting post-repair inspections

• Identify repairs that should be inspected before coatings are applied

• Explain how to use various

inspection tools to access hard-to-see repair areas • Identify refinish defects and signs of improper masking • Explain how to verify corrosion protection has been properly applied

• Describe considerations for pre-delivery and post-delivery inspections

• Understand how to effectively communicate information regarding the repair to the customer

Registration for Inspecting Repairs for Quality Control is currently open and information can be found on the I-CAR website at www.i-car.com or by contacting I-CAR Customer Care at 800-422-7872. New classes are being added to the roster on a continual basis.n

trolled by coil springs and fade-resis-tant gas-charged dampers. Stabilizer bar diameters have also increased. The front sus-pension now has a new 25 mm hollow stabilizer bar to save weight versus the pre-decessors 21 mm solid stabi-lizer bar. The rear suspension has a new 18 mm solid sta-bilizer bar versus the prede-cessors 14 mm stabilizer bar. Larger stabilizer bars keep the vehicle very flat during cornering and help provide quick turn-in response.

Tucson features the Theta II 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine. The Theta II engine delivers about the same amount of power and acceleration as its prede-

cessor’s V6 engine with 20 percent better fuel economy than the old four-cylinder engine. In fact, the Tucson is more fuel-efficient than its competitors boasting

an impressive estimated 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway fuel economy rating with the available six-speed automatic trans-

mission with SHIFTRONIC® and front wheel drive. Tucson features low rolling resistance silica tires to contribute to the 31 mpg highway. With AWD (All-

Wheel Drive), Tucson delivers an estimated 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway exceeding the primary competitors AWD versions.

The Theta II is rated at 176 horsepower (26 percent more than its predecessor) and 168 lb.-ft. of torque. This high-tech, all-alumi-num, 16-valve engine fea-tures Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) on both camshafts and a Variable Induction System (VIS) for better engine breathing. In the green states, the 2010

Tucson is certified as a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) which means it is as clean as a hybrid.n

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is concerned about inequities in the Texas Tax Code. Currently, in the Texas Franchise Tax Code, automotive repair and collision shops owned and operated by new or used car dealerships are taxed at half the rate used to tax independently owned automotive repair busi-nesses doing identical work. The tax code classifies dealership sales as “retail” and allows their service and repair business to be included under that banner. Texas indepen-dent repairers are seeking similar treatment.

ASA is asking Texas repairers to contact their state legislators and urge them to help stop further audits of the automotive service industry until this issue is resolved.

To view the letter or to easily send a letter to your Texas legisla-tor, visit ASA’s legislative website at www.TakingTheHill.com. Click on the “View Current Alerts” button.n

In response to the Obama admin-istration’s announcement on setting new fuel economy mandates for the 2017-2025 Model Year, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) issued the following statement:

“America’s franchised auto deal-ers have long supported fuel economy improvements.

“Less than five months ago, the administration issued the most expen-sive fuel economy mandates ever, esti-mated to cost industry and consumers

Fuel Economy Announcement Raises NADA’s Concernsover $50 billion. Now, before the ink has barely dried on those as yet unim-plemented rules, the U.S. Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency and the State of California have decided to launch a new and far more costly set of fuel economy mandates that would require light-duty cars and trucks to achieve up to 62 mpg on average by 2025. Why the rush? Apparently, California regulators are once again threatening the administra-tion with an unworkable patchwork of

state-by-state standards at the expense of one national standard premised on sound analysis.

“For many Americans, the prospect of being priced out of the car market means being driven out of the job mar-ket, so a primary concern for our mem-bers is the affordability of basic transpor-tation for Americans. Preventing further job loss, preserving consumer choice and affordability, and improving safety should be primary factors in setting any fuel economy standard.”n

Fuel Efficiency From Page 9

long term. In addition to protect-ing our air and cutting fuel consump-tion, a clear path forward will give American automakers the certainty they need to make the right investments and promote innovations. We will continue to work with automakers, environmen-talists and other stakeholders to encour-age standards that reduce our addiction to foreign oil, save money for American

drivers and clean up the air we breathe.”Mary D. Nichols, CARB chairman,

wrote a letter to both Jackson and Ray LaHood, DOT secretary, congratulating them on the release of the Notice of Intent to Conduct a Joint Rulemaking to establish GHG emission standards for 2017-25 model passenger vehicles. Nichols said: “It is our hope that together we can work for adoption of federal greenhouse gas emission standards that will meet California and our state part-

ners’ needs, and will result in a nation-wide fleet of cleaner, more-cost-effec-tive vehicles that will meet both federal and state emission requirements.”

The Detroit News reports that the potential requirements are greater than twice the current fuel economy stan-dard, and that the toughest of these requirements could add $3,500 to the cost of an automobile, or up to $50 billion annually for what American con-sumers pay for new vehicles. .n
