Collect

Liturgy of the Word

First Reading Genesis 14: 18-20

In those days, Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine, and

being a priest of God Most High, he blessed Abram with these words:

"Blessed be Abram by God Most High, the creator of heaven and earth; and

blessed be God Most High, who delivered your foes into your hand." Then

Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Lector: The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 110: 1, 2, 3, 4

The LORD said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand

till I make your enemies your footstool."

R. You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek.

The scepter of your power the LORD will stretch forth from Zion:

"Rule in the midst of your enemies."

R. You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek.

"Yours is princely power in the day of your birth, in holy splendor;

before the daystar, like the dew, I have begotten you."

R. You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek.

The LORD has sworn, and he will not repent:

"You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek."

R. You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek.

Second Reading I Corinthians 11: 23-26

Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you,

that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after

he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do

this in remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after supper, say-

ing, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you

drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink

the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

Lector: The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God.

Alleluia

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord;

whoever eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6: 51)

Alleluia is not repeated. The Choir continues with the Corpus Christi Sequence “Lauda Sion”:

Lauda Sion Salvatorem, lauda ducem et pastorem, in hymnis et canticis.

O Zion, praise thy Saviour, praise the Prince and Shepherd, with hymns and canticles.

Quantum potes, tantum aude: quia major omni laude, nec laudare sufficis.

Boldly praise him with all thy strength; as he is above all praise, never can your praise

suffice.

Laudis thema specialis, panis vivus et vitalis hodie proponitur.

A special theme of praise, the living and life-giving bread, is on this day proposed.

Quem in sacrae mensa cena, turbae fratrum duodenae datum non ambigitur.

Upon the table of the Last Supper, to the twelve apostles, this bread was truly given.

Ecce panis Angelorum, factus cibus viatorum: vere panis filiorum, non mittendus canibus.

Lo! the Bread of Angels is made the food of pilgrims; truly the bread of children must not

be cast to the dogs.

In figuris praesignatur, cum Isaac immolatur: Agnus paschae deputatur datur manna patribus.

In types prefigured, when Isaac was to be sacrificed; the Paschal Lamb was sacrificed,

given like manna to the fathers.

Bone Pastor, panis vere, Jesu, nostri miserere: tu nos pasce, nos tuere: tu nos bona fac videre

in terra viventium.

O Good Shepherd, true Bread, Jesu, have mercy on us; tend us, befriend us; let us see the

good things in the land of the living.

Page 7: Saint Joseph the Worker CHRISTI... · 2019. 6. 20. · Alleluia is not repeated. The Choir continues with the Corpus Christi Sequence “Lauda Sion”: Lauda Sion Salvatorem, lauda

Tu, qui cuncta scis et vales: qui nos pascis hic mortales: tuos ibi commensales, cohaeredes et

sodales, fac sanctorum civium. Amen. Alleluia.

You, who all things can and know, who shepherds us mortals, grant us here to be co-heirs

and companions of the communion of saints. Amen. Alleluia.

Holy Gospel Luke 9: 11b-17

Priest: The Lord be with you.

Response: And with your spirit.

Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.

Response: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God, and he healed those

who needed to be cured. As the day was drawing to a close, the Twelve

approached him and said, "Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the

surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions; for we are

in a deserted place here." He said to them, "Give them some food your-

selves." They replied, "Five loaves and two fish are all we have, unless we

ourselves go and buy food for all these people." Now the men there num-

bered about five thousand. Then he said to his disciples, "Have them sit

down in groups of about fifty." They did so and made them all sit down.

Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven,

he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to

set before the crowd. They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover

fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets.

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord.

Response: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Profession of Faith

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all

things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of

the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from

true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him

all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

[bow] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and

was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the

Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the

Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his

kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from

the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and

glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism

for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of the Faithful

Lector: Let us pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

Offertorium: “Portas caeli” … Graduale Romanum

Portas caeli aperuit Dominus: et pluit illis manna, ut ederent:

panem caeli dedit illis: panem angelorum manducavit homo, alleluia.

The Lord opened the gates of heaven and rained down manna upon them to eat;

he gave them the bread of heaven; mortals ate the bread of angels, alleluia.

(Psalm 67/68: 29, 30)

Motet: “Panis Angelicus” … Cesar Franck (1822-1890)

Panis angelicus fit panis hominum, dat panis coelicus figuris terminum: O res mirabilis

manducat Dominum pauper, pauper servus et humilis.

The Bread of Angels becomes the bread of mortals, the heavenly bread gives a fore-

taste (of the heavenly banquet): O marvelous thing- the poor man, poor servant and

humble eat the Body of the Lord.

Communion Procession

Guidelines for Receiving Communion Catholics in full communion with the Church, who are properly disposed to receive Communion, not

conscious of grave sin and who have typically fasted for at least one hour, are invited to come forward to

receive the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ through the participation in Holy Communion.

We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. Because

Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life,

and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are not ordinarily admitted

to Holy Communion. Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish

National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. The Roman Catholic

Church does not object to the reception of Communion by Christians of these Churches. We pray for the

full visible unity among all Christians.

Communio: “Hoc Corpus” with Psalm 22/23 … Graduale Romanum

Hoc Corpus, quod pro vobis tradetur; hic calix novi testamenti est in meo sanguine, dicit

Dominus: hoc facite, quotiescumque sumitis, in meam commemorationem.

This is my Body, which will be given up for you; this chalice is the new testament in my

Blood, says the Lord. Do this, as often as you receive it, in my commemoration.

(John 6: 57)

Motet: “Tu es sacerdos in aeternum” … Robert Kreutz (1922-1996)

Tu es sacerdos in aeternum secundum ordinem Melchisedech. Juravit Dominus, et non

poenitebit eum: Tu es sacerdos in aeternum.

You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. The Lord has sworn,

and will not forsake it: You are a priest forever.

(Psalm 109/110: 4)

Final Blessing & Dismissal

The Saint Michael Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our safeguard against the

wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and

do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan

and all the other evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of

souls. Amen.

Priest: Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,

All: Have mercy on us. (3 x)
