Reflection
Lent ends with community. Lent ends with Jesus rising and gathering together those who have been untombed. Lent ends with our renewing our baptismal entrances into community.
Are you ready to be changed and transformed in Christ-like holiness? God never withholds his grace from us. His steadfast love and mercy is new every day (Lamentations 3:22-23). Through the gift and grace of the
Holy Spirit we can be changed and made new in Christ. He can set us free from our unruly desires and passions.

Collects funds for support of the Holy Places, but
above all for those pastoral, charitable, educational
and social works which the Church supports in the
Holy Land for the welfare of their Christian
brethren and of the local communities.
April 11 is National Pet Day. While loving our pets is something we do every day, National Pet Day encourages us to pay special attention to pets who may not get that extra attention. Helping out orphaned pet
companions will improve their health and improve their opportunities for adoption.

Living Stations of the Cross Every year the eighth graders of Sacred Heart School perform a live silent version of the stations of the cross. Every year this artistic reenactment of Jesus final moments
on earth becomes more powerful. This is a wonderful tradition in our parish during Lent, and it is great to see all the eighth graders doing something together as a team for the parish. Join us on
Friday April 12, 2019 @ 7:00pm also on Monday April 15, 2019 @ 1:30PM
The second graders who are receiving their First Eucharist on May 5th were visited by our pastor Fr. Tom this past week . What a great feeling to
have a priest first thing in the morning pop in and say hello to us all!

Coastal Laps for Life Track Event
One of the major charitable initiatives for Knights of Columbus Councils in the Volusia County area
is called The Coastal Laps for Life Track Event. This event is intended to help raise funds to purchase
and donate mobile ultrasound machines to local Pregnancy Centers. Pregnancy Centers, supplied with
this equipment, can reach out to expectant mothers planning an abortion and allow them to view their
babies on the ultrasound screen. Statistics show that after viewing their baby, four out of six expectant
mothers who were seeking an abortion change their minds thereby saving an unborn child.
This year’s Annual Coastal Laps for Life will be held on Saturday, April 13th from 8 AM to noon on
the track at Father Lopez Catholic High School. You can sign up as a donor, sponsor a walker, walk laps yourself or just
be there to show your support for this Pro-Life event. Details about this event and sign up forms can be found at
www.coastallaps4life.org where donation and sponsor forms are also available. If you have any questions, call Terry
Cassidy at 386-402-8127 or Art Klobucar at 386-852-0405. We also have a limited quantity of special Laps for Life
T-Shirts available for sale at $15 each with all proceeds going to Coastal Laps for Life
Our Sacred Heart Gift Shop will be set up in
the Social Hall after Sat-
urday and Sunday Masses
thru the end of April.
A large variety of First
Communion gifts and
commemorative items
will be showcased as well as gifts for all occasions.

JOIN US—every Friday during Lent
FOR OUR EXPANDED LENTEN JOURNEY at Sacred Heart
The program begins each Friday
in Lent with a Benediction service at 6:45 PM in the Chapel,
which will close the normal Friday Adoration period. The Benediction service
will be followed by a brief presentation on a Lenten topic. This, in turn, will conclude with a period of guided meditation lasting one half hour and will be followed by
Stations of the Cross in the main Church. The entire evening will last about an hour.
We cordially invite everyone to spend some time in reflection, meditation and prayer during this Lenten
Season by attending this program. We hope to see you there for all or part of the program. Thank you for your
kind attention on Fridays of Lent.

Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper
To be Celebrated at St. Gerard’s
St. Gerard Mission Church is happy to
announce that for the first time since its
inception, The Mass of the Lord’s Supper
will be celebrated at 4:30 pm on
Holy Thursday, April 18 at St. Gerard’s. It
will inaugurate the Easter Triduum and will commemorate the
institution of the Eucharist, the institution of the priesthood, and
Christ’s command of brotherly love. Following the Mass you are
encouraged to spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament.
Plan to join us for this most meaningful celebration!
Please see the Holy Week Schedule for St. Gerard’s for a complete
listing of Holy Week Services.
Who, though He was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, He emptied
himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, He humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross, Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:6-11

“There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the
same Lord . . . To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the
common good.” Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of different liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assembly. At the present time, there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard’s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries.
Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries.
Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins.
Contact: Please see the list of ministries below. Call the leader of the ministry you are interested in to volunteer or for further information.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
MINISTRIES AT ST. GERARD’S
ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION
The POP TAB collection period for
2018 – 2019 has ended, and a hear ty
thanks to all of you who have saved and
donated your POP TAB’s. We came up a
little short this collection period based
on last season’s banner year when we
filled two tubs and a large pillow case,
but a great year non-the-less. Watch for
a picture of this seasons collection that
I’ll post on the bulletin board in the
vestibule at St. Gerard. The collection period for 2019 –
2020 has begun, so I ask you again to please start saving
those POP TAB’s for The Ronald McDonald Houses in
Orlando. They depend greatly on these yearly collections,
donated by the schools participating in this program to help
offset the cost to shelter, comfort and care for the families
waiting for their children to be healed at the local hospitals.
Our collection is funneled through Chisholm Elementary
School in NSB.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion are lay ministers who
have been commissioned by the Bishop
of Orlando to assist the priest in
distributing Holy Communion at Mass.
They serve at all Masses at Saint
Gerard's Church – Saturdays at 4:30 pm, Sundays at 10:00 am,
Wednesdays and First Friday at 9:00 am, Holy Days, Funeral
Masses and, with special training, visits to the homebound.
Catholics in good standing must be recommended by the Pastor
to the Diocese of Orlando. They are initially trained by the
Diocese in a three hour class. These classes are held in various
locations throughout the year. Once trained, the mandates are
good for 5 years. After the initial training, Extraordinary
Ministers receive instruction on the procedures at Saint Gerard's
Church. Schedules are posted monthly. Ministers can indicate at
what Mass they prefer to serve, and are asked to find a substitute
if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. They may be
asked to arrive thirty minutes to an hour before Mass to help
prepare for the Eucharistic celebration.
Baptized and confirmed Catholics are qualified to be
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
Anyone interested in serving in this ministry can speak to any
Eucharistic Minister, or contact Jan Ford at 386-690-7623
