DISCIPLINE

It is no accident that the words “disciple” and “discipline” are nearly identical. Their relationship in Christian faith and life, however, has fallen somewhat out of favor in the past generation, as certain prescribed Church rules and regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These rules were often referred to as “disciplines.” We are mistaken, however, to think that it no longer takes discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a musician striving for a concert career or to master a new piece of music. This discipline comes from desire, not from regulations. It was the desire to do the will of God that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that same desire he encourages in us today: to strive to enter through the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the kingdom with a surprising assortment of people who are there not because of mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine desire to recline at the table of the heavenly banquet.

Joyful Again! is a unique peer ministry based program designed to help widowed persons move, with God’s help, through bereavement toward spiritual and

emotional wholeness. The program has been created for those who have been widowed four months or more. Though there is a religious basis to the presentations, persons of any religious affiliation are welcome to attend.

WHAT TO EXPECT Unlike other support groups, Joyful Again! includes video presentations, time for reflection, small group sharing, journaling and optional prayer. services.

IS THIS WHAT I NEED? Joyful Again! is for you, if you have Been to support groups, but are still asking, “Does it ever get better?” Been unable to move on to build a new life for yourself Been unable to resolve guilt issues.

Mother Teresa died September 5, 1997, Pope John Paul II waived the five year period normally required for the process of canonization. Grand Knight John Gawdun III presents the “Knight of the Year” award for the 2015 – 2016 Fraternal Year to Terrence Cassidy, Jr. PGK, Trustee. Brother Cassidy was chosen not only on the merit of his per-formance as a Trustee where he excelled as chief auditor of the business portion of our council but he has also taken on the responsibilities as editor of our newsletter, and webmaster of our website.
