MUPBED Goals and Objectives

integrate and validate “telecommunication operator’s concepts” withinresearch networking infrastructure

on-demand circuit switching techniques in particular ASON/GMPLS control plane technologies

consider a multi-domain, multi-layer “real world” environment identify service/network requirements of high-end applications for

European research environments and develop appropriate solutions create a European scale experimental environment to assess and

prove the developed solutions develop guidelines for the introduction of ASON/GMPLS technologies

and ultra-broadband services in future European networks (includingresearch networks)

(note: here the term “ASON” covers multiple transport technologies, such as WDM, OTH, SDHalso frequently used is the term “ASTN” in this context; acronyms: see last slide)

Summary and Conclusions

IST project MUPBED: reflects the current and assumed future heterogeneous (research)

network environment in Europe and worldwide is a European scale test network, based on multiple network domains

with different architectures, technologies and functions assesses the main ‘horizontal’ and ‘vertical’ interworking areas aims at pragmatic solutions for inter-working
