Penny’s Tip

For toning and just general fitness how many times a

week should I do weights? How much cardio should I do?

Submitted by: Ken

Mostly it depends on how much time you have to dedicate to getting in better shape. To improve your cardiovascular health a minimum of 20 minutes three times a week will definitely get you on the right track. Start at a moderate pace and slowly increase your intensity. As far as weights go, try starting with 20 to 30 minutes two or three times a week. Don’t forget about stretching, its a very important component of fitness, which is often overlooked. If you need help getting started or getting into the habit Big Bear’s Fitness Centre has very experienced Personal Trainers on staff.

Email your question for Penny to: [email protected] your complete fitness centre, check out Big Bear’s.

After spending all day Sunday watching football games on television, a man fell asleep in his lounge chair, spending the entire night in there. His wife woke him in the morning. “It’s twenty to seven,” she called.“In whose favour?”

Last year I entered the Mayor’s Run. The race started and imme-diately I was the last of the run-ners. It was embarrassing. The guy who was in front of me, second to last, was making fun of me. He said, “Hey buddy, how does it feel to be last?”I replied: “You really want to know?” Then I dropped out of the race.

Beats Shopping

Last summer my wife and I met a couple who were friends of my wife at a restaurant. After lunch, the women decided to go shopping, and I invited the man to go sailing. While we were out on the water, a storm blew up. The tide had gone out, and we were down wind trying to work our way back through a narrow channel. At one point the boat grounded and we had to climb overboard and shove with all our might to get it back in deep water. As my new friend stood there, ankle deep in muck, the wind blowing his hair wildly, rain streaming down his face, he grinned at me, and with unmistakable sincerity said, “Sure beats shopping.”

Everyone can be great… because anybody can

serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.

You only need a heart full of grace. A soul

generated by love. ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Hey! Sunday, August 30th was race eight for the Calgary Kart Club. This race was held at the Varsity Chrysler Speed-park, and I was competing! Finally, I am back racing and it was a great day. The weather was nice and hot with absolutely no precipitation. There were a good number of competitors in each class, including seven in shifter! After having some technical difficulties in Saturday’s practice, we got things figured out for practice the next day. I qualified 6th, which isn’t too bad for my first race back. In the prefinal I got a good start and stayed with the pack the entire race. I ended finishing in a solid 5th position after the twelvth lap. Again, I got a good start for the final and was fighting for 3rd. I ended up coming home with a 5th but it was a win to us. Thanks, Chelsey Wilson Team Alpha #13
