“What are your reasons for joining, and for staying in Rotary? Most joined for the opportunity to serve and stay for friendships.
I joined Rotary to be a part of our collective humanitar-ian projects, and I have stayed because of the joy on the
faces of beneficiaries each time we solve a need.
Chibuzo Hilary AsogwaRotary Club of Ekulu, Enugu State, Nigeria
I had a desire to give back to my community and theworld. My father was a Rotarian, so I knew a lot about it.That was about nine years ago. I think what keeps methere is the friendships, not only with people in my localclub but with Rotarians I’ve met from around the world.
Elizabeth CohoeRotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston, Ontario, Canada
As a disabled couple who are both Rotarians, we knew
that our fellow Rotarians would see us as people, notdisabled people, and would welcome our input into thecommunity. And so it has proved for the last 10-plusyears!

Nicholas ThompsonRotary Club of Stockholm International, Sweden
Making friends, travel, and self-development attractedme to Rotaract. After a successful decade in Rotaract, Igraduated to be a Rotarian. The bonding with Rotaryfamily and the way projects are executed to benefit soci-ety at large helped me ascend to be a Rotarian.
Saket GadkariRotary Club of Thane Hills, Maharashtra, India
I sat down and figured out how much time I was donat-ing, and how much more effective it would be as part ofa club instead of doing it all myself. I joined for the ser-vice and stay for all the friends I’ve made. It’s nice totravel and instantly have friends wherever I go.
Aur BeckRotary Club of Carbondale Breakfast, Illinois, USA
Honestly? I joined for business. But I stayed for the fel-lowship and causes.

The more I give back, the more I continue to get. Ro

Raewyn KirkmanRotary Club of Waikato SunriseHamilton, New Zealand
I joined Rotary to render service to the downtroddestayed because I found fun and friendship.
Nze AnizorRotary Club of Trans Amadi, Rivers State, Nigeria
Rotary inspires me to contribute to good humanitarcauses. My club is a great platform for service and flowship.

Preparations for the project to preserve urban bird sanctuary andprotect the environment are in full swing; 25 Rotary clubs have
now joined the initiative
As of August 23, twenty-five (25) Rotary clubs have con-irmed to join Holy Spirit and Caritas-Novaliches Environ-

Drive to help preserve an urban bird sanctuary and pro-ect the environment.
The whole-day tree-planting, shoreline clean up driveand fellowship event for Rotarians, Rotaractors and Inter-actors shall be on August 30th.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources
of the Philippines has designated the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism AreaLPPCHEA), a coastal urban wetland and bird sanctuary
situated within the metropolis of Metro Manila, as thecountry's sixth Wetland of International Importance.
The site comprises two interconnected, mangrove-covered islands, shallow lagoons and coastline. A Presi-dential Proclamation in 2007 designated the site as aCritical Habitat‟ for the survival of threatened, restricted-ange and congregatory species. At least 5,000 individu-
als of migratory and resident birds have been recorded at
he site, including about 47 migratory species such as
the vulnerable Chinese Egret. The most important of tresident bird species is the vulnerable Philippine Duck( Anas luzonica) which breeds at the site. Records from2007-2011 show that the site supports at least 1% of testimated population of Black-Winged Stilts.
The site faces threats associated with being located ndensely populated areas. Other threats include land relamation projects and mangrove cutting.

MESSAGE
August 16, 2015
Dear friends and advocates for environment protection,
The Rotary Club of Holy Spirit (RCHS ), in its 10th year of "service above self" is hold-ing a tree planting and shoreline clean-up activity aptly themed, " PROTECT THE EN-VIRONMENT... SAVE OUR FUTURE" on August 30, 2015 at LPPCHEA (Las Pinas -Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area).
The area is strategically chosen as it serves as the first line of defence of Metro Manilaagainst storm surges and tsunami. To assure the growth and sustainability of the pro-
ject, RCHS has sought the cooperation of the DENR-NCR and Caritas-Novaliches En-vironment Ministry. It is our hope that we get to revisit the place in a few years andmarvel on the growth of what we have planted.
Let us care for our planet, our environment. Let us plant trees, clean the shoreline. Letus have fun as we appreciate the beauty of nature.
Do join us as a donor or sponsor.
This is our legacy. Our gift to the next generation.
Let us be a gift to the world.
Thank you.
Yours in Rotary service,
ANGELITA “Angel” E CASTRO

Dengue Prevention
This photograph shows a mother applying mosquito re-
pellent to her child’s skin in order to prevent mosquitoes
from biting.
How to reduce your risk of dengue infection:There is no vaccine available against dengue, and there are no specific medicationsto treat a dengue infection. This makes prevention the most important step, and pre-vention means avoiding mosquito bites if you live in or travel to an endemic area.
The best way to reduce mosquitoes is to eliminate the places where the mosquitolays her eggs, like artificial containers that hold water in and around the home. Out-doors, clean water containers like pet and animal watering containers, flower planterdishes or cover water storage barrels. Look for standing water indoors such as invases with fresh flowers and clean at least once a week.
The adult mosquitoes like to bite inside as well as around homes, during the day andat night when the lights are on. To protect yourself, use repellent on your skin whileindoors or out. When possible, wear long sleeves and pants for additional protec-tion. Also, make sure window and door screens are secure and without holes. Ifavailable, use air-conditioning.
If someone in your house is ill with dengue, take extra pre-cautions to prevent mosquitoes from biting the patient andgoing on to bite others in the household. Sleep under a mos-quito bed net, eliminate mosquitoes you find indoors andwear repellent!
Advisory for the Community: HOW TO AVOID DENGUE
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH reports almost 20,000 dengue cases in Q1.
This is 6.49% higher than in the first 3 months of 2014, but less deaths are recordedthis year compared to the 85 deaths in 2014
