The practical actions for DISASTER PRE-PAREDNESS suggested by the Philip-pine Institute of Vulcanology & Seismol-ogy (PHIVOLCS) and the QC Red Crosswere reviewed with the youth partners.This is part of the on-going program ofRC Holy Spirit to help residents andhomeowners associations within and

Holy Spirit continues to enable communities to prepare them-
selves for disaster reduction and risk management
Following the orientation briefing arranged by RC HolySpirit with the Quezon City Red Cross for five (5) villagesn Barangay Holy Spirit in late 2014, the first DisasterPreparedness Seminar was conducted at the Don Anto-nio Heights Subdivision last July 4 th, 2015.
Some 150 homeowners/residents attended the 3-hourseminar conducted by Mr Lloyd L Sapla, RN, EMT. MrSapla is Head of QC Red Cross’ Disaster ManagementUnit and Staff in Charge of the Emergency ResponseUnit. He began by showing the geological hazards ex-
perienced by the country in recent years. He also dcussed the possibility of a 7.2 Magnitude Earthquaalong West Valley fault based on scientific studies.
The seminar covered practical suggestions on what tobefore, during and after a disaster, particularly an ear
quake. An objective of the seminar is to form a DisasManagement Committee and emergency responteams in the community.
The seminar was coordinated by PP Marcia with the QRed Cross.

one of the very first Governor’s Visits during Rotary year 2015-1

The Governor’s Visit on 29 June2015 was highlighted by one-on-onediscussion between DG Rey Davidand WCP Angel Castro, by presenta-tion of club plans & programs for2015-16 to the District Governor and
the district team, and by the Gover-nor’s message for Holy Spirit at theend of the meeting.
The program for the club assemblywas chaired by PP Ped Condenowhile Admin Chair Ric Salvador mod-erated the presentations by commit-tee chairs and the question-and-answer portion after each committeepresentation.

The 10th charter anniversary celebration of RC HolySpirit last 29 June 2015 was marked with the renewalof sister club affiliation with the Rotary Club of MarikinaNorth D3800, and the forging of new sister club friend-ship ties with RC San Mateo Midtown D3800.
WCP Robert Eric B Sanchez of RC Marikina Northcame with IPP Francis Joseph Villareal. Sisterhoodties with RC Marikina North date back to RY2010-11and we have worked together with them on severalmedical-dental missions and disaster relief projects.
RC Marikina North was chartered in 1980.
WCP Teresa C Amado of RC San Mateo MidtowD3800 came with Rtn Dr Grace Angeles who h
joined us in two (2) recent medical missions in Montban in behalf of San Mateo Midtown.

Induction and turnover rites held as RC Holy Spirit celebrates decade of Service Above Self
WCP Angel Castro’s term began with amilestone celebration for RCHS – 10years of service above self!! The turn-over and induction rites on June 29,2015 at the Don Antonio Heights Club-
house was preceded by a thanksgivingmass, said by no less than Fr LucianoFelloni, former executive director of Ca-ritas Novaliches and a good friend ofWCP Angel.
After dinner, a brief history of RCHSwas nostalgically narrated by CPNides, from the time of its charteringduring the time of the late PDG GeorgeHoward until its near-demise and “re-birth”. Special thanks to PDG Danny
Fausto who refused to let the club die.
During the valedictory address of BCPMarites Nepomuceno, she presentedDove awards of distinction to out-standing members who exhibited com-mitment and service above self for theRY 2014-15. She specifically cited PPDr Eui Bong Jung for his personal sac-rifices in conducting the monthly medi-cal missions and his international af-
filiations resulting in mostly unexpectedinnumerable support to the club andthe district.
After the inaugural address of WCP
Angel, the club officers for RY 2015-2016 were then presented. They wereinducted into office by DG Rey David.
What followed was an entertainingdance number performed by the Inter-actors, Rotaractors and Rotarians ofHoly Spirit. The programme wascapped by the inspirational message ofDG Rey. Gracing the occasion wereIPDG Sam Pagdilao, PDG FrancisRivera, PDG Jess Cifra, PDG Dulce
Coyukiat, PDG Danny Fausto whocame with Spouse Peia, district offi-cers, BCP’s and WCP’s.
PP Marcia Salvador acted as master ofceremonies. Wining and dancing wellthrough the night added fun to the cele-bration of RCHS’s milestone.

Meet Rotary’s new president
K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran is CEO and founder ofPrintcare PLC, a publicly listed printing, packag-ing, and digital media solutions company. It isarguably the world's largest supplier of tea bagpackaging, catering to nearly every major teabrand, with manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka
and India. Printcare is the winner of national andinternational awards of excellence. Ravindranhas been a featured speaker at several interna-tional print and packaging forums.
Ravindran also serves on the board of severalother companies in Sri Lanka and India andcharitable trusts, including the MJF (Dilmah)Charitable Foundation. He is the founding presi-dent of the Rotary-sponsored Sri Lanka Anti Nar-cotics Association, the largest such agency in Sri
Lanka. During the country's civil war, Ravindranwas involved in the business community effortsto find peaceful solutions to the conflict and wasa featured speaker at the United Nations-sponsored peace conference in New York for theSri Lankan diaspora in 2002.
A third generation Rotarian and a member him-self since the age of 21, Ravindran has servedon the Rotary International Board of Directors
and The Rotary Foundation Boardof Trustees and as RI treasurer.
As his country's national PolioPluschair, Ravindran headed a jointtask force of the Sri Lankan gov-ernment, UNICEF, and Rotary andworked closely with UNICEF tosuccessfully negotiate a ceasefirewith the northern militants during
National Immunization Days. Aidedby Rotary's efforts, Sri Lanka re-ported its last case of polio in1994.
He also chaired the Schools Reawakening pro- ject, in which Rotary District 3220 raised morethan $12 million to rebuild over 20 tsunami-devastated schools to benefit 14,000 children.He continues to play a role in his club's project tobuild a cancer prevention and early detection
center in Sri Lanka. Once completed, it will bethe only dedicated national facility to offer com-prehensive screening and early detection ser-vices.
Ravindran is a recipient of The Rotary Founda-tion's Citation for Meritorious Service, Distin-guished Service Award, and Service Award for aPolio-Free World.
He and Vanathy have been married since 1975,
and they have two children and a recently borngrandchild.

The Object of RotaryFirst formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and
foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in par-
ticular, to encourage and foster:
. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for ser-
vice;
. High ethical standards in business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the digni-
fying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's per-
sonal, business, and community life;
. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill,
and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional
persons united in the ideal of service.
