Jamie MacDougall has established himself as one of the country’s most versatile singers and performers. Since 2001 he has been the voice of classical music on BBC Radio Scotland and he has also moved into television, annually presenting BBC Proms in the Park Glasgow as part of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms. He continues to tour with Caledon – Scotland’s Tenors (of which he is a founding member) and returned to Berlin with their new show ‘Whirlin in Berlin’, which was subsequently released on DVD and CD last month. They have also taken this show to the USA and to Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic as well as to various venues in England and Wales. Future plans will see them at His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen, Glasgow Pavilion and the Eden Court Theatre Inverness. On the solo front Jamie will return to the Royal Albert Hall in London next April for a performance of Handel’s Messiah with the Royal Choral Society.

Stephen Bell was born in Lancashire and studied conducting at the Royal College of Music in London under Norman Del Mar. He now has a challenging schedule which gives him the opportunity to conduct in locations as varied as Istanbul, Toronto, Athens and London. He has worked with an eclectic range of artists from Stephen Hough and Xeufei Yang to Alfie Boe and Katie Melua.

His discography includes critically acclaimed CDs on the ASV, Naxos and Dutton labels, including two with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and, most recently, three world premiere recordings with Roger Chase and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Since 2005 he has conducted the BBC Philharmonic for the annual BBC Proms in the Park Manchester, and in 2008 made his BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall with the highly successful Doctor Who Prom. This season sees engagements with a number of orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, Hallé, London Philharmonic, Southbank Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the ERT National Symphonic Orchestra (Athens). Earlier this year he was appointed Artistic Director of the City of Oxford Orchestra. He first worked with the BBC SSO in June this year. For further information, please visit: www.stephenbell.info

BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra The BBC SSO is one of Britain’s most versatile orchestras, with a huge repertoire ranging from the most complex modern scores to the great classics, from music by Scottish composers to film scores and music for television. Founded in December 1935 (and since 2006 based at City Halls in Glasgow), the orchestra appears in the UK’s most prestigious events like the BBC Proms

and Edinburgh International Festival, and it plays in venues all over Scotland. Abroad, it has appeared in many of the great musical centres of Europe and has toured the USA, South America and been twice to China, most recently in May 2008. The majority of its performances are broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and its innovative concert programmes and acclaimed recordings have made it the recipient of numerous awards, including four Gramophone Awards. Edinburgh-born Donald Runnicles became the BBC SSO’s Chief Conductor in September 2009, a post which runs concurrently with his position as General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He succeeded Ilan Volkov (Chief Conductor from January 2003-September 2009) who now holds the post of Principal Guest Conductor. For further information, please visit: www.bbc.co.uk/bbcsso
