WELCOME ADDRESS

Dear participants!

Several new themes have appeared on the banking supervisors’ agenda over the past years. The wider public’s call for a financial system serving better the needs of societies, the general trend towards a more sustainable economy and the growing concerns about climate risks pose new challenges to financial supervision. Additionally, rapid technological developments are impacting banks and consequently their supervisors.

The entire financial system is undergoing a profound change, caused by all these factors.

In order to explore the dynamics and challenges of these developments, ESE is bringing together senior supervisors, policy makers, and industry representatives from Europe. This sixth ESE conference invites to reflect on the following themes: How do banks adapt? How can supervisory institutions respond, act or proactively accompany these developments? Will supervision need to change to effectively answer the public´s call?

Let me cordially invite you to join this ESE Conference, which will also highlight ESE’s 10 year anniversary. We are looking forward to welcoming you in the Bavarian Capital City, at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Munich.
