It is an undisputed fact that origin of “The 12th Man” belongs to Texas A&M University Aggies. It goes back to the 1921 team. In January 2014, Good Bull Hunting, a Texas A&M community, acquired the trademark and licensing agreement from the university, outlining ownership.

With the recent success of the Seattle Seahawks, the debate has been ignited as to the true function of the 12th Man.

The 12th Man tradition has grown and changed over the years. The player that wears #12 is now a non-scholarship/walk-on player representing the student body’s support for their team. This is what the 12th Man tradition symbolizes.

It has created a bond of loyalty between Aggies. The Seahawks have used the 12th Man pretty much in the same way. Fans have bonded together as the team’s “The 12th Man.”

Club Manager The club will be heating upFebruary is the month that we hope things once

again start happening at our great club. Not that there hasn’t been anything happening, we just are hoping that “2017” is a great year for the Lynnwood Aerie 2888.

The holidays are behind us and we hope that people who may have not been in the club for a while take some time to stop in and say hi.

There’s a lot of opportunities to come in and enjoy yourselves in February as there’s the Super Bowl, Chili “Cook-off” (which there will be a champion picked for 2017). On Saturday, Feb. 11, there we will once again have the “Big Band” on stage as we celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The Trustees apologize for the long time frame without normal heat, We’ve busted our butts to get this task completed, but seem to be coming up short. We’ve found out that A-1 commercial roofing, which we researched and he had the backing of a Henry’s representative (Henry’s products have been around for about. 80 years plus). They came to a trustee meeting to help sell us on the roof with a 30 year warranty that we went with. We’ve had a hard time getting ahold of the roofer to do his part where the existing HVAC unit was, The HVAC guy could do his part in the installation of our new HVAC unit that’s been sitting in a warehouse in south Seattle for weeks.

On Jan. 16, the HVAC company (Thanks

John Day) will be installing the new unit and we should be set for years to come in that aspect of the building maintenance.

Once again we appreciate all of the patience of the members of this great club.

There seems to be a buzz in the air with our new sworn in president Jeanette Peterson. It’s truly great to have some energy; and some caring at the helm!

The Trustees want to wish Bob Nelson the best in his recovery and hope and expect to have him back soon.

A big thanks to Kathy Breault for her time and energy to keep the wheels turning in the secretary’s office in the absence of Bob.

Please help Kathy Meehan if you can. She’s doing her best to soak up all of the needs of the club and covering the tasks quite well.

If there’s anyone interested in being a part of a pool league or anyone interested in heading up a dart league, please contact the Club Manager or leave a note in her mailbox which is located across from the entrance to the ladies room.

To all of members and volunteers that step up to keep the ship righted, we say thanks!Dave Stering, ChairmanDon DavesSteve MellingerLes StrawRussell Pyles

Better than we thinkFor anyone like me who is struggling to find the

meaning to a lot of what has happened nationally in our country, I have found a poem by Laura Ingalls Wilder which gives food for thought and some calming words for us:

“The real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and to have courage when things go wrong.”

I hope 2017 goes well for all of you and that the prognosis is better than we think.

Vicki EamesChaplain #2888

Thank you, thank you, thank you! For my crew that kept bingo going while I was having surgery in January. At the time of this writing I am not sure if this will be for one or two Mondays, but I have faith that you can do it. Lou Lou will be the “Large and In Charge” person with Dee, Barb, Lynda, Cindy and Arnold at her side for assistance. We have such a nice group of “Bingo People” that I am sure you all can help if needed.

Come on in and bring your friends. The more people, the larger the winning payouts. Well behaved children can come in and have fun, but a parent or relative must accompany them. We start at 6:30 and play 11 games at $1 each and two games at $2 each. Two games have the possibility of $250 winnings.

We have finished a published set of rules for bingo with trustee approval, a requirement of the Gambling Commission. Hope to see you all soon.Vicki EamesBingo Chair

Just a little mixed upJust a line to say I’m living,That I’m not among the dead.Though I’m getting more forgetful,More mixed up in the head.

For sometimes I can’t remember,When I stand at the foot of the stairs. If I must go up for something,Or, I’ve just came down from there.

Before the refrigerator so often, My poor mind is filled with doubt.Have I just put the food away,Or did I come to take some out.

There are times when it is dark out,With my night cap on my head.I don’t know if I’m retiring,Or just getting out of bed.

So, if it’s my turn to write you,There’s no need in getting sore. I may think that I have written,I don’t want to become a bore.

Just remember I do love you,And I wish that you were here. But now it’s nearly mail time,So I must say, “Good bye dear.”

There I stood beside the mailbox,With a face so very red.Instead of mailing you my letter,I opened it instead.

On the road with Royal Wheels Travel Clubby Gerry LaPlante

Here’s hoping that you all survived the Big New Years Party of 2017. I know that this year is going to be a great year for us all. Some of us will be going on some romantic trips, while others will come into great fortune and there will be those who will have new little ones coming into their lives. Now with that said and done, how about a fun filled evening celebrating that Romantic evening on Feb. 14. Wine, Lobster and Steak and, of course, Chocolate. Happy Valentine’s Day to all you Love Birds.

As promised last month, here is a report for our 2016 Christmas dinner/party. The evening started out with a display of our 2 huge raffle baskets. Thank you Topsy for such great baskets and Floral Centerpiece. Then there was the game, Who Am I. A name of a person starring in a Christmas movie was placed on our backs and we had to guess who we were. Wow! There were some really old movies and stars. Some got their stars right away, while some never heard of their star. But it was fun. Dinner was super great: Prime rib along with salmon, garlic roasted potatoes, fresh winter veggies and an exquisite green salad. There

were also many different mini desserts to choose. Vonderbar! After dinner we had our 1st Christmas ornament exchange. There was a lot of stealing going on. Then there was our raffle. Many thanks to all those that bought tickets. We raffled off all the table centerpieces and the two baskets and the floral arrangement. Everyone was excited. Many thanks to our committee who worked very hard on this event. Sharon, Topsy, Marlene l and GerryAnn. A tentative date has been set for the 2017 Christmas dinner/party, Dec.16, 2017. We will be looking for a committee for this event.

Hip hip hurray! It’s birthday time again. Now don’t be shy ‘cause we’re telling everyone who is celebrating. Okay, Stan and Dana this is your month and we salute you with raised glasses. A toast to you both. Happy birthday. With that said, there are no anniversaries to be celebrated this month.

This is terrific! No one has been reported being sick this past month. Super. Now should you know of any of our members not feeling up to par, please contact Dixie and she will be sure to send out the club’s special Rays of Sunshine.

As we do each year, we in the Royal Wheels love to celebrate holidays and Valentine’s Day

in no different. We will be having our annual Valentine’s dinner at Sparta’s Pizza in Lynnwood, 17630 Hwy. 99, Lynnwood, where we are going to enjoy the food and atmosphere there. It is a favorite of many of our members. Let Dana know if you can attend, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. sharp.

Just a few reminders: (1) There will be no monthly meeting this February. (2) March monthly meeting on March 9 starting at 7 p.m. at the Lynnwood Elks Lodge. Come on down for dinner.

Our club is always looking for new members. We are a fun group who like to get together once a month, March through October for our monthly camp outs. We love to play cards (all kinds), swap stories, see what’s in the vicinity and just enjoy each other’s company. We meet the second Thursday of each month except December, January and February. Our meetings are at the Lynnwood Elks Lodge starting at 7 p.m. The only requirement is that you like to have fun and be a member of either the Elks or Eagles. Come on down and check us out. Dues are only $10 per member. We’d love to meet you. Stay safe on the highways and byways of RV’ing.

Thanks for Kids Christmas Party

Submitted by Hooshy FeizbakhshTour boats ferry people out to the USS Arizona

Memorial in Hawaii every 30 minutes. In the gift shop there was a small book entitled, "Reflections on Pearl Harbor" by Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, Admiral Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington, DC. He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. It was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He told Nimitz that he would be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat. You would have thought the Japanese had already won the war.

Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked. As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?" Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice.

He said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America.

Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?"

What God did at Pearl HarborMistake number one: The Japanese attacked

on Sunday morning. Nine out of every 10 crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk, 38,000 men would have been lost instead of 3,800.

Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired. The ships were in shallow water and could be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks for repair. He said he already had crews ashore anxious to man those ships.

Mistake number three: Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away just over the hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make or God was taking care of America.
