Editorial
Goodbye it is time for me to leave the Kulin CRC. I have really enjoyed working here and everyone has been so
friendly. I will miss seeing everyone's faces in the CRC, whether it was to help with your IPad or just doing some
printing. Tomorrow I am flying to America for a months holiday and when I return, I will be moving up to Perth.
Thank you to everyone for being so lovely, and this past year sure did go quick! I will see you all around!
New CRC Trainee. Mel Edwards, will be taking over the CRC Trainee position, most of you would have
already met Mel at the Shire.
New CRC Manager. A big welcome to our new CRC Manager who will be starting in the next couple of weeks,
Kate Bishop. Kate is coming from the Pingrup CRC. Make sure you say ‘hi’ to Kate and welcome her into our
great community.
The Australia Day Awards were a great success. Well done to the award winners, and don’t forget to think
about who you would like to nominate for the next Australia Day Awards. See more on page 5.
We have moved. As you would all know we have moved into our new building. The Kulin Shire, CRC and
Visitor Centre are all in one. The location and access of the Dr’s Surgery remains the same. It’s a lovely, new,
modern building with lots of great features. There are still a few touches needed, to get it looking even better
than it already does. Come in and check it out! We are open 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday– Friday. Please note we
are no longer closed for lunch.

On Tuesday the 26th of January 2016, Kulin locals and
visitors gathered together at the Freebarin Recreation
Centre to celebrate Australia Day. At 8am breakfast was
served. The Kulin Lions Club did a great job, with bacon
and egg rolls, juice and tea and coffee for sale. The kids
played totem tennis and other outdoor games, while the
adults chatted.
At 9am it was then time to announce the Australia Day
Active Citizenship Awards. Kulin Shire President Barry
West presented the awards. And the winners were……
Erin Bailey for the Premiers Australia Day Active
Citizenship Award and Hudson Bennier for the under 25’s
category. This year there wasn't a winner for the
community event or group category. Congratulations to
Erin and Hudson, very well deserved!!
A special thanks to Sim at the Rec Centre for getting
everything set up and prepared and to the Kulin Lions
Club for putting on a delicious breakfast. Don’t forget to
think of a person or group that you think is worthy of
these fantastic awards, for the 2017 Australia Day Awards
Ceremony.

Fantastic Visitor Feedback
Thank you Kulin, we passed by in the morning to Wave Rock and turned all the way back to stay here at the free R.V park.
We like the idea. Our experience in town; Shopping $35, Swimming Pool $8, Pub $80, Fuel $20. All the best and many
greetings from Switzerland Stefan and Leizia.
Hi, we tried to support and spend as much as possible. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 kids (11, 7 and 3) from Perth,
travelling the South West. We would have spent more if the hairdresser had been open (closed for Christmas) Thank you for
an excellent facility, lovely town and friendly people. Keep it up we will spread the word. Stuart and Bernading German
Perth.
Friends recommended we pop in here whilst touring the Wheatbelt. Thank goodness we did. Wonderful facility and such a
friendly welcoming town. Used the IGA to stock up our camper. Thank you Kulin Jan and Steve Essex U.K
Thank you so much for the RV stopover. I found it after stopping to use the toilet and shower facilities on a very hot day.
Once I’d stoped I didn’t want to continue- so stayed overnight. You have provided a very clean and bright place to stay.
Thanks Joanne from Albany 30/12/15
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful park. We enjoyed our 3 days and hot showers. Well done
Thank you we stayed 48 hours and enjoyed it. Smith’s QLD
Thanks for awesome facilities! It was a pleasure to support your town. The person who cleans the bathrooms is amazing-
always spotless before we used it in the mornings! Thanks guys- advertise as a great spot to see Wave Rock from I reckon!
Friendly town, would have spent more here except for Xmas break closing shops etc. 72 hr park is great, clean toilet block and
water. Will recommend to all. A great venture for the town, hope it pays off.
Dear Sir, as a volunteer campground host for D.P.A.W I will strongly recommend this facility to all future campers. I am
currently enroute from Esperance to Perth and appreciate Kulin’s hospitality. The Cape Le Grand Camp Host.
Spent $40 at the petrol station, great free camp thank you.
Great spot stayed 2 nights and have 2 kids. Fantastic showers and toilet blocks really clean. Spent 2 days at the pool and spent
$24 at the bar.
Best free stop we have ever had. Much better than the caravan park in Kalgoorlie!! We will visit you again. We enjoyed our
stay everyone was so friendly. Thanks so much!
Great town, great free camp, great hamburgers! Maybe provide doggy poo bags? We had our own but some people don’t.
Fuelled up in town spent in IGA and the Woolshed. Thanks Kulin!

This is an amazing initiative by the community. We are from QLD and travelling for 12 months. The slide came from our home
town. How embarrassing for us! And all power to you- fantastic feat. Suggestion to have aluminium can recycle basket by the
rubbish bin also. What an amazing town thank you. We are self-funded retirees income- $35k. If we can’t free camp
occasionally we can’t afford to travel. Thanks again!
To whom it may concern. Thanks to the township of Kulin for providing this 72 hour rest area for RV travellers. We stayed
for the 72 hours and consequently were able to have a good look around this region. The hot showers we really appreciated
also. Thanks to the helpful council staff for providing information and to the local businesses for their friendly services. We
were hoping to enjoy the highly recommended Woolshed Café but each time we went across, it was closed. Thanks again.
John and Cheryl.
Good job kulin, a lot of small communities could learn a lot from you. Suggestions- Laundromat (perhaps that renovation
across the rd is one?), store owners should readily give out dockets/receipts. Each time we made a purchase we had to ask
for one. When we explained why (for the bucket at the RV site) they looked puzzled and didn’t know about it. Locals were
very welcoming and friendly to the travelling public. Again… good job!!
Thanks Kulin, great facilities for families on holidays around Australia. Used pool, slide, hot showers, and playground, IGA,
Mitre 10 and Woolshed. Thanks West’s
Absolutely brilliant Kulin! We only stopped 1 night but will definitely come again and recommend your stop to others. The
drainage channels and re-vegetation look fantastic. A credit to your town and community. I bet it’s great for the students at
the school to be involved as well. Thank you from very happy travellers!

Media Release
A hay bale inspired design is the centrepiece of drawings
unveiled this week which outline a new look for the
Narrogin Health Service.
The concept, which was warmly received by local MPs
Terry Waldron MLA and Martin Aldridge MLC and made
possible by the Royalties for Regions-funded Southern
Inland Health Initiative (SIHI), will feature a checkerboard
façade resembling the many stacks of hay bales in the
region.
Member for Wagin Terry Waldron MLA welcomed the
announcement of the design, adding his voice to the
chorus of supporters for the redevelopment of the
building.
“The new Narrogin Health Service will enable more
effective provision of current services as well as expansion
into new areas,” Mr Waldron said.
“The facility will include two new birthing rooms, a new
inpatient ward, theatre, procedure room, sterilising
department, as well as new dental and chemotherapy
services.”
“This new building will be a visual landmark for the town,
identifying commitment to outstanding health services.”
Member for the Agricultural Region and SIHI Governance
Committee member Hon Martin Aldridge MLC said the
new building was made possible through Royalties for
Regions.
“Once this building is completed, the people of Narrogin
will enjoy provision of health services in a state-of-the-art
facility to rival many facilities in Perth,” Mr Aldridge said.
“It is a core expectation of regional Western Australians
that they have provision of high quality healthcare, and
through the $500million SIHI program we are delivering
these outcomes.”
The Southern Inland Health Initiative includes a capital
works program more extensive and complex than any
project previously undertaken by the WA Country Health
Service, with new builds and upgrades to 37 hospitals and
health services in the Wheatbelt, South West, Great
Southern and Midwest.
Construction to the redeveloped Narrogin Health Service
is scheduled to start in mid-2016.

At the Child Care Centre we have been very busy over the holidays with lots of outside play, digging in the sand pit and picnics in the nice warm weather. The big boys made a very cool sculpture with our new construction toys.
We have been learning about using our manners and Aussie culture for Australia day. We have been doing lots of paintings of beach animals and have had discussions about what we did on our holidays. We also learnt how to keep our bodies clean (by holding and washing dolls).

The little town of Kulin is famous for it’s quirky Tin Horse Highway and today I went on a photographic mission to capture the tin horses for the 15 kilometre eastern stretch of the road. But before I show you the photos I must tell you about how friendly and welcoming Kulin is to travellers like myself.
There is a Council owned caravan park that has no, that’s right NO set price – you pay what you think it’s worth! There’s power, water, hot showers and toilets and all the sites are new concrete pads. Not only that but Kulin also has a 72 hour free stopover right in town that also has showers, toilets and a free barbeque. They really want us to spend some time in their town! If you are looking for a coffee shop, try the Mitre 10 Hardware store! Great coffee and a small bakery there too!
Where is Kulin? Approximately 280 kms from Perth in
