Election Prayer Initiative

The United States is clearly a nation in trouble. A battered econ-omy, political divisiveness, the culture wars, racial uneasiness, and a sidelined church, provide the dry tinder for an inflamma-tory national election in November. Many stake their hopes or fears on the outcome.

While believing in and encouraging the importance of exercising our right to vote, we also call the Christians in America to do that which is even more critical in these days . . . to pray! The seriousness of our day requires an intensity of prayer that is

unprecedented. There are only a few days left so let’s make it count!

Our focus in prayer is simple. We are praying for: 1. Revival in the Church-(2 Chron. 7:14) 2. A standard of righteousness to be raised over this nation. (Proverbs 14:34) 3. The elections-that God would intervene. (Isaiah 48:17) This is not a call from one ministry or organization, but from diverse leaders from across the spectrum of the U.S. Church. It is a pleading for all Christians to do some-

thing proactive and powerful. Your vote counts—Pray about it!

PAGE 2 THE TRIUMPH GROWING TOGETHER IN CHRIST

Dear Friends, I hope you’ll join us each Sunday in November for a series of sermons based upon the life of David. Entitled “Pursuit: Following God’s Heart,” we’ll journey toward discovering what it means to pursue God’s will and ways in our life. As a child, my favorite character in the Bible was David. I think this happened instantly the first time I heard the story of how this young shepherd boy courageously defeated the giant Goliath. As a grown man, I now see David through a different lens. I now see a man I didn’t know as a boy; a man whose failures were as big, even bigger, than his successes.

Regardless of his failings, the Bible describes David as “a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14).” I see in this description a man, who in spite of his woeful imperfections, still had a tender heart for God. This heart did not manifest itself through a perfect man. Instead, it

was often revealed through a man who was cer-tain to make his way back to the heart of God when he wandered off the path. Whether you’re passionately following the heart of God in your life, or you’ve wandered and found yourself off the path, I believe that this series will be a bless-ing to you in your relationship with Christ.

See You Sunday, Pastor Kevin

Here it is, my favorite time of year. Fall. I love the brisk coolness in the air and the vivid colors of the leaves, falling from the trees. Each changing season reminds me once again of the awesome and mighty God we have the privilege of serving. The holiday season is quickly ap-proaching and with that comes the hectic pace we each seem to find ourselves caught up in. This Thanksgiving, take time out of your hectic schedule and talk with your kids about all that God has blessed your family with. Then take time to truly thank Him. There isn’t enough room in this news-letter to list all I’m thankful for so I’ll just leave it at this; I feel truly blessed not just to have “my fam-ily” but to have my church family too. I’m also thankful for each person that gives of their time to

go on the rotation each quarter to love and teach the children of UBC about Jesus Christ and for the Sunday School teachers and Awana Leaders and listeners who give time each week to help our kids gain a better understanding of His word. I’m thankful to be able to do a job that I LOVE doing among people that bless me more than I could ever say. Happy Fall! Happy Thanksgiving! Miss Pat

AWANA NEWS Let me start by saying “THANK YOU” for the outpouring of love you showed by your giving of toys for the GAP Toy Drive! I do believe this was the largest amount of toys we have received to date! What a blessing you are, not just to me but to those families that will receive the toys and to the GAP missionaries as well! Thank you so very much.

We have some exciting things coming up! Be sure to mark your calendars! November 7 – Regular Awana night November 14 – Teddy Bear Night – Bring your favorite Teddy Bear to Awana with you November 21 – NO AWANA – “Happy Thanksgiving” November 28 – “HAPPY BIRTHDAY BASH” – On this special night, we’ll celebrate EVERYONE’S birthday on the same night! We have a special opening planned for all and birthday cupcakes for the end!!!

UBC CHRISTMAS POST OFFICE The UBC Christmas Post Office will be up and running beginning November 25 th and will be open through December 19th. This is a great way to pass along holiday greetings to your church family. Please remember when addressing your cards, if the receiver is not presently attending UBC, the cards will not be forwarded to them. This year, the post office will be run by the UBC children and parents. All proceeds will be put in the fund to assist those going to camp in 2012. The cost will be $.25 per card again this year. Please place your card in the “TO BE SORTED” box and we’ll take care of the rest!

HARVEST OF HOPE GIVING TREE

Your opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for needy kids right here in Boone County is back! Later in Novem-ber, Harvest of Hope will be putting up a Christmas tree full of tags with kids clothes sizes and toy wishes. As of now, NKY Community Action has asked us to help 54 kids, ages 3 and 4, who are in the Boone Co. Head-start program. All of these families are low income and qualify for assistance. When you see the tree, please consider taking a tag and make a small child's Christmas a happy one.

Also, if you would still like to give donations to the Adopt a Troop project, we will continue to take those. The first boxes will not be shipped until mid-November and more will be shipped after that. Put them in the HOH barrel and mark the bag TROOPS. Donation lists are still available at the info table. The troop is getting ready to be deployed in 2-3 weeks. Please keep the 128 soldiers in your prayers that God will bring them all home safe.

As always, HOH appreciates your generosity in helping those less fortunate. God Bless from the Harvest of Hope Team!

Our toy drive will end Sunday, November 4th. You will have an opportunity to present your gift in either morning service . Please remember we are asking for new, unwrapped toys. The greatest need again this year seems to be for the teens, both boys and girls. As for the “Parent Shop”, we are focusing on gifts for Dad this year. We will be taking a load to GAP on Thursday, November 8th and would love to have to schedule a 2nd trip!! Thank you in advance for your generosity!

*If you have any gently used coats in your closet you would like to get rid of, we are taking coats too! You can place them on the floor by the barrel in the narthex! Thank you!

One of the awesome families here at UBC is the Donald-sons. Paul and Cindy have been married for 25 years, and have three children – Kilee (22), Ben (16) and Kelsey (14). They have been members of Union Baptist Church for most of the last fourteen years. In addition to serving faithfully here at UBC, the Donaldsons lead very active lives in many other ways.

Paul is the farm manager for Richwood farms, where he has been for the past thirty years. This means lots of early morning hours, and working most days of the week. Cindy works for the Boone County libraries as a youth services as-sociate. You can usually find her at the Scheben branch in Union on the children’s floor, where she plans storybook hours, preschool activities, and helps parents and children find the resources that they are looking for.

Kilee is a recent college graduate, with a degree in English. It is her desire to one day be involved in publishing, and she is currently working toward that goal. Ben enjoys choir and drama, and is involved in both school and com-munity theater. Kelsey is an avid soccer player, and also enjoys dance and chorus.

Paul and Cindy are too modest to say this about themselves, but they are both awesome cooks. They can cook anything from “good old home cooking” to “firing up the grill.” Their chili is always high up in the rankings at the UBC chili cook-off. Together they enjoy keeping up with their Kio pond in the backyard, and keeping their yard beautiful.

Here at Union Baptist Church, the Donaldsons are serving in many capacities. Ben and Kelsey both love being part of the youth group, and attend every activity that they can. Ben also sings in Grounded with many of the youth. All of the Donaldsons are involved in the nursery rotation, and take time out of their busy schedules to “love on the kids.” Paul is also the teacher of one of our adult Sunday School classes, and is an Awana leader.

The next time you run into the Donaldsons at church, be sure to take a moment to tell them how much you appreci-ate their service here.

Here are the “New Addition”

blessings to our UBC Family.

Introduce yourself and

make them feel welcome!
