Due to increase in the awareness in consumer and environmental aspects, there has been a change

undergoing in power sector unlike the past where generation and distribution of electricity was not

considered commercial activities.

National Power Training Institute (NPTI), is a National Apex body for

Training and Human Resources Development in Power Sector, in service to the

professional organizations, engineers and individuals in the country.

With an aim to supplement the Indian Power sector with groomed Manpower,

NPTI started “52 weeks Post Graduate Diploma Course in Thermal Power Plant”

Engineering” in year 1996-97. The fresh engineers of this batch have already acquired

sufficient competency level during their training in key areas of Thermal Power Plants and after completion

of the entire course they will be skilled enough to take over the charge of Operation and Maintenance of

Power stations.

Recruiting these engineers in any power utilities/organizations will not only be a win-win strategy for

all including the employer, the trained engineers and NPTI, but it will also be a great contribution to the

Indian Power Sector.

NPTI has started PGDC in Thermal Power Plant Engineering following the syllabus as

per the regulation of Indian Electricity Act.

The engineers over here undergo theoretical inputs along with practical

exposure to Thermal Power Plants of various ratings.

After completion of training in Aug'15, they will be most suitable engineers for O&M of Thermal

Power Stations, Manufacturing units, Design & corporate offices of various power utilities, consulting

companies, EPC contractors etc. in Thermal Sector.

NPTI (HPTC), Nangal is among one of the nine Regional Institutes of NPTI established in 2008 and is a

state-of-the-art center set up by the Government of India (Ministry of Power) for human resource

development in the field of Power Sector. The Institute is situated on the picturesque landscape of about 15

acres at the Shivalik foothills and very near to Chandigarh.

NPTI Nangal is fully equipped with the latest training infrastructure and expert faculty from power

PGDC IN THERMAL POWER PLANT ENGINEERING

One year full time course is running since 1996-97 in different regional Institutes of NPTI. Every year

the course starts in August and admission to this PG Diploma Course is open for graduates of full time

B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical / Electrical / EEE selected through Common Entrance Test (CET).

The PG Diploma Course is having an exceptionally encouraging response and many Power Companies

ON JOB TRAINING NPTI Nangal is having a very close linkage with nearby Thermal Power Plants for Industrial Training and

faculty backup. All PGDC thermal batch trainees undergo 2-weeks Scheme Tracing and 9-weeks Rotation On-

Job (ROJ) training both in operation and maintenance apart from regular monthly plant visits during

both semesters at: GURU GOBIND SINGH SUPER THERMAL POWER PLANT (GGSSTPP): The power plant is

vital and subcritical Thermal power generating installation connected with Northern grid of India. This is coal

based power plant of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) located in Ropar district of Punjab

and has installed capacity of 1260 MW (210 MW * 6 units) .

SIMULATOR TRAINING NPTI is having fully functional 210 MW & 500 MW Thermal Simulators which gives a practical hands-on

experience for Power plant operation. Additionally, Simulator training helps the trainees to know about

trouble free start up procedure & optimum usage of resources giving exposure to different plant conditions.

TEACHING BY EXPERTS

The Institute has dedicated faculty directly from Thermal power utilities having years of experience in O&M

of plants. Also, the curriculum is designed in a way to have specialized lectures by experts from Industries

through which trainees get exposure to the latest technological developments in the power sector.

No investment on training and time saving for providing training to the newly inducted engineers as

NPTI trained engineers can be directly deputed on-job.

Simulator training and on job rotation gives a practical horizon to students by which they can

visualize actual working of Power Plant.

NPTI under the aegis of Ministry of Power is serving the nation by developing trained manpower for

power sector from last many decades.

PGDC Thermal Certificate Course serves the mandatory requirements of the Indian Electricity Act

2003.

The various course modules are focused on Operation, Maintenance, Erection & Commissioning of

Thermal Power plants.

The course curriculum is regularly updated with the latest technologies in the power sector and as

per the customized requirements of the industry.
