On an average more than 50 lakh students graduate every year in India with a three, four or five years degree after 12th standard from all streams. More than 75% of these students enter the job market and nearly 47 percent graduates are unemployable. Employability requires the candidate to possess both job related and generic skills. However, there are gaps in both areas.

The ProcessAfter a brief orientation in the assigned organization, the students are involved directly in addressing the predefined problems of the host organization.

The students are encouraged to work independently, under the technical guidance of a professional expert of the organization and the general guidance of faculty.

Students are periodically required to explain the technical aspects of their work through written and oral presentation.

Emphasis is laid on the importance of team work, developing leadership qualities & on the need for effective time management.

This is a national level financial market event which seeks to foster the financial prowess of the aspiring students.

Day 1: Practical implications of events like policy changes, market movements, international influence were encapsulated in the event by way of making participating teams perform overall functions relating to trading, clearing, settlement and deposi-tory operations. Management students from B Schools all across India enthusiastically put efforts in their wealth maximization motive!

Day 2: After the round of experiencing the financial market operations, it was time to get insights from experienced market personages. A Panel discussion on ‘Budget, Election and Market Sentiments: Decoding the trajectory of Indian Financial Markets’ was witnessed. Torque BSE Institute Limited, a 100% subsidiary of the BSE Ltd. celebrates its Founders Day every year. The name of the event is Torque Completing the Circle. Torque intends to bring together all the students of BIL which include MBA Financial Markets, Global Financial Markets Professionals (GFMP), PGP Banking & Finance, PGP Business Journalism, Certificate Program on Capital Markets (CPCM), BIL Champs, other short duration courses and the alumni, and give them a platform to participate in different management games, cultural and fine arts events organized by the students of BIL. Event has Games like Dare to Make it, Minute to Win, Ad Mad, Guess Who Am I ? Quiz, Captivate, Young turks, Treasure Hunt and Case Study.

BSE Institute Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the BSE Ltd. hosted the finale of BSE International Financial Olympiad at the BSE International convention hall in Mumbai. Over 108 students competed with each other to win the national level com-petition. Close to twelve thousand students participated in the national level competition which was spread over 6 months. BSE International Financial Olympiad is an initiative to extend financial literacy to the school level through its flagship innova-tive and educative national level financial quiz competition. The first round of BSE International Financial Olympiad covered twelve thousand students from 536 schools across 202 cities in 24 Indian states and 108 students were selected for the finale in Mumbai. BSE Internaional Financial Olympiad is aimed at encouraging school students to explore and learn more about financial world by developing analytical and problem solving skills that will be essential to their careers.The purpose of BSE International Financial Olympiad is to create awareness about financial literacy amongst students at a young age. It is aimed at empowering students with a proper understanding of the opportunities in the financial markets. Financial Olympiad helps students prioritize their personal financial goals and guides them towards becoming financially responsible.During the initial rounds of BSE International Financial Olympiad, students studying in class 9, 10, 11 and 12 participated in inter school written tests.

RBI Visit

SEBI VisitOur students visited SEBI situated at SEBI Bhavan, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai. An interactive session took place between the BIL students and the SEBI officials. The visit helped them understand how SEBI as a regulator has been pushing systemic reforms aggressively and successively. They also explored how SEBI has to be responsive to the needs of three groups, which constitute the market

DSB (Deutsche Schule Bombay) School at the BSE Institute Ltd.Bringing a new perspective to teaching basic financial concepts, the BSE Institute conducted an interactive session with students from the German School at the Institute. Designed as a miniature simulation of an economy wherein students role-played as vendors and consumers, the session was an engaging experience. Being liable for tax and exposed to various twists and scenar-ios as in the real world, they gained a practical understanding of how complex economies are and what running an economy looks like. Moreover, they gained an insight into the inherent causes of corruption and other problems faced in such an environ-ment through simple examples from the session itself. Applauded for its effectiveness, the workshop has gained commendable popularity.

International conference on Bond MarketsBSE Ltd. organized an exclusive International conference on bond markets on Saturday, 22nd December 2012. The confer-ence was inaugurated by Dr. Subir Gokarn, the then Deputy Governor of RBI. Other key speakers at the conference included Dr. Urjit Patel, Dr. Suresh Sundaresan of Columbia University, Dr. Gangadhar Darbha, Executive Director of Nomura Securi-ties, Mr. R. While focusing on key issues concerning the fixed income markets, the panel discussions took up important issues like sovereign bond markets in developed economies, role of government bond markets in disciplining sovereign borrowing, macro economic perspective on role of bond markets etc.

Launch of the Book - An Uncertain Glory by Amartya SenProfessor Amartya Sen and development economist Jean Drèze released their book ‘An Uncertain Glory: India and its Contradictions’ in July 2013 at the BSE Ltd. The book details India’s poor record on human development and failure to invest in health and education services, despite considerable econom-ic growth. With this book, Professor Sen talks about India and its contradictions majorly revolving around how ‘poverty line’ is actually a misnomer.
