PHOTOGRAPHY PLANNING

TASK 12

PHOTOGRAPH FOR FRONT COVER – MAIN IMAGE

CASTING

• For my casting I am going to be using Peran. He is extremely photogenic & is part of my target audience as he likes alternative rock music

LOCATIONS• For the location I will use either a dark background, a light pale grey

background or a plain white background, all of which will be in my house. as I need my font colour of black to stand out against it. By using a plain background it will also make this image stand out a lot more, putting emphasis on the dark colours for clothing.

All of these images show kerrang magazine front covers. Each image taken was against a plain looking background otherwise they would be very distracting. Therefore I will use a plain background to keep the focus on the main ‘artist’.

BODY LANGUAGE• I will get Peran to pose angrily, his face will be aggressive with his teeth being bared. I will

make him stand with his shoulders forward so it looks like he’s standing closer to the camera. This will make it seem like he’s jumping out of the page. The anger being portrayed will be conventional for this genre of music magazine.

Kinda like this

SHOT TYPES• For the shot type I will use a mid shot, showing the face & a bit of the torso. This is conventional as

literally every magazine cover has either a single close up image/mid shot, or a long shot of artists with props, usually relevant to the discussion. I want the image to come across as quite aggressive as that would fit my music magazine’s genre.

These images are all similar styled images I wish to recreate, as they are all very clear images with either props or not.

ANGLES

• The angle I will take this photo at will be a semi-low angle, so that it makes my model look intimidating. This is conventional for this genre of music magazine as it would make him look angry.

Like this image here. Where Oli is slightly leant over making him look 3D & slightly aggressive.

PROPS• For this image I will be needing:

• A microphone

• A black band t shirt

PHOTOS AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE COVER

CASTING• Phoebe

• Heather

• Elijah

• Peta

• Oscar

• Joe

• Ben

LOCATIONS - IMAGE 1

• I will take this photo of Phoebe in Neale Wade, against one of the plain white walls.

• For a second image including Phoebe, I will take it either in school, or against a brick wall near the school, to make it look edgy as it will be featured as a ‘poster section’ in the magazine. So the lighting in the school would be perfect as it’s really light.

BODY LANGUAGE – IMAGE 1

• For this image I will have phoebe looking quite mellow, with her guitar, she will look very comfortable with her instrument as it will need to look as natural as possible as she will be acting as an actual artist for this music magazine.

• For the second image, I need her to look superior, standing against the wall. She will look confident & charming, I will have her either looking down at the camera or looking into the distance. I want her to have one of her legs placed crossed over the other so one of her feet are only touching the floor by the tip of her shoe.

SHOT TYPES – IMAGE 1• For the first photo, I am going to be using a long shot so it includes all of Phoebe’s body & instrument.

This is conventional for these types of image as they’re supposed to include photos of the artists from a distance so you can see all of them.

• For the second image I am going to be using a long shot, again to include all of the body, to show the aggressiveness in her body language.

ANGLES – IMAGE 1

• The angle of the first image will be level to the torso, so slightly low down, or maybe to the left side, so you get a good angle of the guitar & the style of the model.

• For the second image I will do it either from a low down image so she looks intimidating, or level, clean shot.

PROPS – IMAGE 1

• For the first image I will need a bass guitar.

• The second image doesn’t require any props.

LOCATION – IMAGE 2

• For the first image of heather & phoebe, I will photograph them in the music area at Neale Wade.

BODY LANGUAGE – IMAGE 2

• I want them to look comfortable with eachother, as they will be acting as band mates, I want them back to back, one of them playing guitar & one of them singing, so it looks like they’re performing at a concert. I want them to seem relaxed but into what they’re doing, so the one singing shall be sort of bent over, singing to the ‘audience’.

SHOT TYPES – IMAGE 2

• For this image I’ll use either a long shot, or a mid shot. To emphasise the use of props, such as the guitar & mic. This would be conventional for a rock magazine.

ANGLES – IMAGE 2

• I will use a low down angle for this shot, to make the artists seem more intimidating, which is conventional for a rock magazine.

PROPS

• Electric guitar

• Microphone

LOCATION – IMAGE 3

• For this photo of elijah, I will photograph him against a plain background.

BODY LANGUAGE – IMAGE 3

• For this image I will get elijah to pose as if he’s just finished playing guitar, with the neck being held in his left hand, his legs crossed standing up, leaning against a wall. I want him to look intimidating so his face will look aggressive/moody/emotionless, with his head slightly tilted, looking down at the camera.

SHOT TYPES – IMAGE 3

• For this image I will use a long shot, to get all of Elijahs body in shot. This is conventional for a music magazine cover. This image will be used for a ‘poster edition’, so this shot type would appeal to my target audience as they get to see the band members whole body.

ANGLES – IMAGE 3

• For this image I will be using a low angle, to make the artist come across as intimidating & frightening. I want the angle to emphasize the mood, which is grungy rock.

PROPS

• I will need an acoustic guitar

LOCATION – IMAGE 4

• For this image, I will be photographing it at school.

BODY LANGUAGE – IMAGE 4

• For this photo of Joe & Ben, I want them to be bent down leaning slightly forward on one leg, so they look ‘cool’ & mysterious. This will appeal to my target audience as they would like to see their favourite bands posing etc, this is also conventional for a rock magazine, for the artists to look aggressive & grungy.

SHOT TYPES – IMAGE 4

• The shot type I will use for this image will be a mid long shot, as the artists will look smaller as they are crouching, & I want the target audience to be able to see their positioning. This shot is conventional for a magazine cover as you tend to be able to see all of the artist in the shot, rather than just a half body.

ANGLES – IMAGE 4

• For this shot I will be using a low angle, to make the lighting outside look brighter, making them look darker & more mysterious, it will also make them look more evil & aggressive, which is conventional to my target audience as they like darker colours & aggressive music.

CONTENTS PAGE PHOTOS

LOCATION

• For this photo of Peta, Elijah & Oscar, I will take them outside of school, to put them against a brick wall.

BODY LANGUAGE

• I want them to look quite punky, so I will get peta to pose in the middle of the two boys with her arms cross, connoting the aggressive attitude, I’ll ask her to pose with her teeth bared then the two guys facing inwards ‘shouting’ into her ear.

SHOT TYPES – IMAGE 1

• For this shot type I will use a mid shot, just including their faces to lower torso. This is conventional for a music magazine, & will also appeal to my target audience as they’d get to see the artists close up.

ANGLES – IMAGE 1

• For this photo I will be using a level angle, so you can see everything that’s going on. The lighting would also be perfect for this.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD PHOTOS

LOCATION

• For these photos of the main band, I will take them to an abandoned warehouse, so it looks spooky & grungy. This is conventional for this rock genre of music & will appeal to my target audience due to the style.

BODY LANGUAGE• For the first image I will photograph emma & karen standing against a pole, sort of leaning in towards

each other, I want them to look casual & miserable, looking towards each other.

• For the second image it will be of karen on her own against the pole, looking down at the camera, looking superior & grungy.

• The third photo will be of emma, leaning against a pole, I want her to look aggressive, as if she’s about to kill someone.

• The next image will be of beth, she will be standing against the pole, looking into the distance mysteriously.

• The 5th image will be of all 3 of them, posing against a brick wall, with emma in the middle holding a bass guitar, they’ll all be looking in different directions, so they all look different.

• The 6th image will be of all 3 of them posing in a window of the abandoned buildings, I want beth to be leaning with one arm on the ledge, emma in the middle of karen & beth, looking at the camera, then karen leaning with both arms on the ledge, so she looks kinda bored.

SHOT TYPES

• For most of the images I will use mid long shots, to show all of the body parts, this will be conventional for the music magazine double page spread as the images need to be of the whole bodies.

ANGLES

• I want to use a variety of angles for these shots, including low angles, high angles, & level angles. I feel that a variety of angles will give different effects of lighting & moods. The aggression that a low angle would give is conventional for the rock genre as it would make the artist seem intimidating.

PROPS

• I will need a bass guitar
