The Green Cross Association, founded in 1905 by Archduke Franz Salvator of Habsburg-Lothrin-gen, is an associa-tion that is always endeavouring to ensure the surviv-al of endangered animals and to contribute to the preservation of their habitats by promoting wildlife
research projects and by offering training opportunities for hunters.
The smaller hunting associations in many Austria areas orga-nize the annual Hunter’s Ball to preserve their own associa-tions. The AVC Club endeavors to continue this tradition.

The kids really enjoyed making the bird feeders and this was one of our most successful craft nights to date. Alpine Hats were made at the October craft night. We encourage our members to bring their children and grandchildren to our craft nights while you enjoy a Friday night dinner.

Oktoberfest OriginsThe origin of the first Oktoberfest goes back a long way in his-tory. On October 17, 1810, the first Oktoberfest was celebrated on today’s Theresienwiese. The original reason for hosting the festival was the wedding of Ludwig von Bayern and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Such an important wed-ding had to be celebrated accordingly and so a big party was organized on what was then the “meadow”. It was only after the wedding that the meadow was renamed Theresienwiese in hon-or of the bride Therese.
The enthusiasm of the people for this festival was so great that it immediately became clear that this festival should now take place annually. But almost 200 years later, the world-famous Oktoberfest does not have much in common with the original festival.
The 3 Oktoberfest evenings are the most popular dances the club hosts and everyone goes home with a smile and a promise to come back again.
