PCOMING EVENTS JUNE
Transcript of PCOMING EVENTS JUNE
Over the past fortnight there have been many highlights.
Whilst representing the school, students have performed well
and also been great ambassadors for Illawarra Primary. A
whole school event a couple of Friday evenings past epitomised
the sense of community that exists. Earlier this week I had the
fortunate experience of working with Mr Michael Hayen and
Mrs Anne Edwards in presenting the many adjustments the
school provides to students with disability as part of the
department’s new funding model which will be implemented in
2020. To conclude the fortnight the teaching staff attended a
professional learning experience as part of a series of PL
sessions on establishing a common instructional model of
writing that will transform the learning of and engagement in
writing throughout the school.
Movie Night
As mentioned above the Movie Night was a wonderful
community event with many families setting up camp in the
school’s GP Room for a night of movies and catching up. This
now has become an annual event for families as they take
advantage of the audio visual system that the School
Association funded a couple of years ago. Thank you to the
School Association for running this event, especially Jane
Gibson for her organisation and Amanda Midgley for ensuring
the event continues to be included on the school calendar.
Debating
On Monday I had the pleasure of attending the second round
of this year’s Primary School debating at Lenah Valley Primary.
I couldn’t have been more impressed with not only the
students who were representing Illawarra but all students who
were participating. I believe that this after school activity now
includes up to twenty schools. The students representing
Illawarra, Jacob P, Darius K, Oliver W, Ellise D and Luke M
were articulate, confident and respectful. They were also very
well prepared for their debates and presented their thinking
through compelling and sophisticated arguments.

Art during the Lunch Break
Late last week I received a text from Mrs Terri-Ann
Petersen which included a photo of the number of
students who were accessing the art room during
lunchtimes at the end of the week. This was pleasing
on many levels. It showed the outstanding
commitment that Terri-Ann has for her subject of Art
and her preparedness to create the opportunity for
students to use the art space during a break time. It
also demonstrated that the development of the
Undercroft was providing benefits that far outreached
our expectations from when these spaces were first
considered as an aspect of the recent Capital Works
program that will soon be completed.
Staff Tour of the New Administration Building
Last Friday the staff had the opportunity to have a tour
of the school’s new administration building and from
the positive comments and feedback provided, the wait
has certainly been worth the inconvenience of the past
year. The well designed meeting spaces will ensure the
continuous delivery of a high level of professionalism.
The convenience of the reception and administration
area will enable the efficient running of the school and
the work spaces will provide the supportive
environment that the students and staff deserve. As a
staff we are very much looking forward to moving into
this new space early next term.
Huon and Channel Primary Schools Cross
Country Carnival
After the false start of last Wednesday due to
inclement weather, the Huon and Channel Primary
Schools Cross Country Carnival was held last Friday
with a number of students achieving outstanding
results. (Mr David Fraser has provided these details
for the newsletter.) Once again students did them-
selves and their school proud not only in how they
competed but also in how they conducted themselves
during the day at Huonville. Thank you to Mr Fraser
and other staff for attending. Also thank you to the
parents who braved the cold to support their children
and the team of Illawarra cross country runners.

WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN STICKERS
Don’t forget if you shop at Woolworths to collect the
Earn & Learn stickers. We have sticker sheets and a
box for collection in the office. There is also a
collection box at Woolworths in Kingston.
Last year we collected enough stickers to purchase of
$900 of resources for the school.
School photos will be taken on Wednesday
12th June & Thursday 13th June.
Kinder Possums will have their photos taken on
Tuesday 11th June (along with sibling photos).
Kinder Wombats will be Wednesday 12th
June & sibling photos.
Kinder Bandicoots will be Thursday 13th June
& sibling photos.
Please collect family envelopes from the office
and return to the office.
As orders can now be placed online, each
envelope is now personalised with student
name and unique ordering code.
If a student loses their envelope, their
opportunity to order on line will be lost. They
will need to collect a spare envelope from the
office and hand into the office.
No change will be given on the day, therefore it
is vital that parents hand in envelopes that have
correct money enclosed - it is added pres-
sure on the office when parents ask for change
and do not have the correct money.
Credit card orders are strictly online.
Orders for photos need to be returned to
school by Tuesday 11th June - The office
needs time to co-ordinate family photos, so
please be mindful to return envelopes on time.
Thank you for your cooperation.
