HEY! My name is Hope and I’m accepting

applications for my forever home. I’m a bit of a local celebrity

and have been known to draw

crowds of adorers when I roll into a

room. I was hit by a car when I was a

puppy but that hasn’t even slowed me

down. I like strutting in my wheels, chillin’

in my wagon, and cuddling on the

couch. I also like kayaking (see my

photo at left), swimming, paddle boarding and bike rides (check out

www.facebook.com/pawsplace to see me in action). I’m great with kids, I love playing with other dogs,

and I am the sweetest girl you are ever gonna meet. In case you were wondering, I’m 35 pounds and about 1-year-old. I am a special needs dog so I

need a special family to take care of me. If you are interested in bringing a little Hope into your home, go to www.pawsplace.org or call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. I’d like to thank photographer Dick Parrott for taking my ‘Back to School’ cover photo. Perhaps my new family will see it and call today!

I’m Victor and just wait until

you meet me in purrrson. I

know you will fall for my strik-ing amber eyes

and red-gold coat. I am a very calm,

sweet, adult kitty. I love

other cats and gentle dogs,

too. A Shelter Friend volun-

teers say that I am one of the

nicest and sweetest cats they have ever met. I have been neutered

and am up to date on my vaccinations. All I need now is a place on your lap! Please call A Shelter Friend at 910-876-0539 and ask Silvia to make that happen. You can visit A

Shelter Friend online at www.AShelterFriend.org and www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend.

I am sponsored by ECM Corporation.

I am Magic, a 2-year-old male Walker Hound, tall and lean like basketball great Magic Johnson.

And, like Magic, I have a magical

personality. I love everyone and they

love me. I am being trained in

the Monty's Home Pawsitive Partners

Prison Program for eight weeks, where I'll be get-ting my diploma, which tells you that I can sit, stay, walk by your side on a leash, etc. etc. etc. You've got to come around and see

me, because this photo doesn't do me justice. What can I say? I'm magic! Visit us online at www.montyshome.org. Write to [email protected] for more details, or call

us at 910-297-1338. PLEASE LIKE US ON FACEBOOK at www.facebook.com/montyshome!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Lakota Sioux.

Page 5: PawPrints Magazine August 2014

My name is Larry, I can come off as a kind of

"tough guy" because I

love to play, play, play! My

most favor-ite toy is

the feather wand. I

will do ac-robatics and the

high-jump to get at that little sucker! But the truth is, I really love people. Older children are fun to play with - I

will give them kisses, too! My foster mom calls me "Larry the Love-Bug" because I love to be loved. My fur is super-duper soft, so you will love petting me as much as I love being petted. I'm neutered, up to date on my shots, FIV/Feline Leukemia negative AND microchipped! All you need to do is pick up some food and toys and take me home! Please call All 4 Cats at 919-710-3872 to set an appointment to visit with me. Check out our Facebook

page at www.facebook.com/all4catsrescue for upcoming events so you’ll know where you can visit with me.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Annie Lake,

cherished family member to Doug and Lisa from the Townhouse Art & Frame Center.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out!

Any Golden Retriever lovers out there?

Because my mom or dad was definitely a Golden!

My name is Sanba (A013117) and I’m a 3-year-old boy who is

quite bewildered by my presence at the shelter. I must have been some-

one’s beloved house com-panion at some time be-

cause I keep the cleanest kennel around. I don’t answer nature’s call

unless I’m actually outside. The barking dogs and loud sounds frighten me, so I spend a lot of time in my dog

house, which is probably why I’ve been overlooked for so long. I hope you’ll come meet me and take me out. I’m a gorgeous boy who just needs love. I’m very gentle, quiet

and sweet and only 3-years-old. My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick treatment and my

neuter surgery. The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s

also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at

910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has rescued a homeless animal.

Page 6: PawPrints Magazine August 2014

My name is Athena and I’m a

3-year-old, happy girl who gets along well with peo-

ple. I have the cutest grin, I’m

very good in the

house and I know my manners. I have been

to multiple obedience classes at DogTrain and in addition to being house-trained; I know sit, down, stay/wait, come

(of course), settle and up. I walk nicely on a leash and am crated-trained. I sleep with my family in their bedroom at

night and also spend time outside in a fenced-in backyard. I love to play fetch and do very well with my family’s grand-kids and even with strangers. Through no fault of my own,

I need a new home with a loving family. I have been spayed and I’m current on vaccinations in addition to being on heartworm preventative. I am a 35 pound mixed breed girl. I’ve been with my family since I was just 6-weeks-old

and they really wish they could keep me. If you are interested in adopting me, please email Carla at

[email protected] or call her at 910-791-0955 (leave a message on answering machine if no one picks up).

My name is Sammy and I

was an outside cat who was

always getting picked on.

Luckily, someone rescued me and brought me to

Pine Valley Ani-mal Hospital so now I’m in great shape. I’m very content to live

inside - in fact, I never want to go

out! I am so thankful to have food and a safe

place to stay while I find a new, inside-only home. I would do best with a family who doesn’t have any other cats or dogs. My main goal in life is to sit on someone's lap because I am very

sweet and just want to cuddle. Since I am approximately 8-years of age, you will have to be a genuine animal lover

and I will want to live with you temporarily until my adoption is made official. You know, so that you and I are certain we’re purrfect for each other...kinda like rent to own but it will be foster to adopt! I am up to date on my vaccinations and I’m neutered. If you are looking for a very sweet, well-

behaved kitty who will sit and watch TV with you, please call 910-799-4500 and ask for Jeannie.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital.

Looking for a laid-back, sociable cat who is

content to snuggle in your lap or relax on the

couch and keep you company? Well, take a look at me! My name

is Desdemona and I’m one of the most affec-tionate girls you’ll ever meet. I love everyone and greet all people in the vicinity with wel-

coming purrs. I’ll even extend my arm to you, inviting you to touch

me. I’m also declawed, so there’s no fear of

getting scratched (as if I even would!). I do have a mild case of arthritis, but all that means is that I’m content to stay in one section of the house - I won’t be running everywhere and getting into any trouble. My friends at the shelter give me one glucosamine pill a day and it really helps. It’s inexpensive, too! I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Won’t you please come meet me? I promise to make you feel loved from the mo-

ment we meet! Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for driving directions or more information.

Sponsored in memory of Milo,

the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day!

URGENT, URGENT! I’m Running Out

of Time! Precious Puppy Alert!

My name is Bear (A013131) and I’ve been waiting for a home since early July! How can it be that an adorable, playful and loveable boy like me

has been overlooked? I’m just 6-months-old and

ready to be the best friend you’ve always hoped for. I’m so very sweet and am good with kids and other

dogs. Want to go to the beach? I’m there! Stroll in the neighborhood? Let’s go! Snuggle on the couch and

watch TV? Oh boy, I can’t wait! Please hurry over to the shelter and meet me. There are just too many dogs ar-riving and not enough kennels to hold us all. My adop-

tion fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick treatment and my neuter surgery. The shelter is now

open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays

from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected]. Puppy kisses are waiting!

Adopt-An-ANGEL

August 2014 www.facebook.com/PawPrintsMagazine 9

►My name is Colleen and

I am a laid-back,

easy-going girl. I am

house-trained, great on a

leash, and I do well with other

dogs and people of all

ages. I love to snuggle and I am not high

energy at all. I am EASY. I had a litter of puppies and one is still available. I was a good mom and I let them get away with everything. That’s my personality though. I go with the flow. My foster

mom describes me as a perfect angel.

◄My name is June and I'm a 2-year-old spayed Lab mix girl. I'm what you'd call an all-star dog: I'm friendly, obedient, easy-going, cheerful, and always at the ready to be a listening ear! I'm all set to make some lucky family a truly amazing lifelong companion so come on out and fall in love with me! You’ll find that it’s one of the best decisions you ever made.

◄My name is Kirby and I am Kojo's sis-

ter (pictured on page 26). I am a

little more shy than my brother. I would benefit from being

adopted into a home with another well-

balanced dog. Even though my brother

and I love each other, we should be

separated so that our shyness doesn't feed off one an-other. I am young enough that I will overcome this if you’ll be patient and give me TLC and socialization. I am just 6-months old and will probably grow to be only 50 pounds at

most. I also need a quiet home without small kids (who can be noisy at times). I am drop dead gorgeous with my

pretty golden fur.

◄My name is Bo, and if I do say so myself, I am drop dead gorgeous!! I have deep choco-late fur that is al-

most black. I am a dream on a leash,

have excellent manners and am super easy. I do well with other dogs and I am

house-trained. I weigh about 55 pounds so I am a mid-sized family dog who

is already fixed and vaccinated.

►My name is Rio and I dance across the sand.

Just like that river twisting through a dusty land.

And when I shine I really show you all I can. Oh

Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande. That's what they sing when they come

to see me. My name is Rio and I am a wonderful yellow Lab mix. I came

from Pender County Ani-mal Shelter a few weeks back because they had run out of space and I’d run out of time. They are so full of animals so please go adopt from any of the county shelters or just adopt me. I am eager to please and gentle. I seem to do well with other animals and I am already neutered, vacci-nated, and heartworm negative, too. And if you choose

me, you can sing “Rio” to me and I will just love you.

►Hi, my name's Hoover. I'm a Hound of unknown origin, though I suspect I am at least part German

Shepherd and maybe part Walker Tree Hound. I get

along great with other dogs and cats and even

chickens. I love dog food more than anything else in the world, except for

maybe chasing squirrels. I love kids and would really love to find a home with a big

fenced yard where I can play with them. I am told that I am very cute and sweet natured, though I try not to let that get to

my head. I would really love to find a new family who will love and care for me the way my old one has. Won't you

please adopt me?

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine August 2014

Hello there, my name is Pepper. I have a sad

story to tell you, but I’m sure one day the ending will be a happy one! You see, I was found aban-

doned in a ditch in Hamp-stead. When I got to the vet’s office, they discov-ered that I am also blind and heartworm positive. But wait! Just like they

say, there is a silver lining to every cloud. Mine is that I can still see shad-

ows, and I have a sponsor who is willing to pay for

my heartworm treatment. I can walk around just fine, and I tilt my head in order to see better and sense what’s around me. I would love to have a foster home where I can have peace and quiet during my recovery from the heartworm

treatment. I am a very sweet boy who absolutely loves all people. I do well with other dogs, too (girls especially), as long as we are introduced slowly. In fact, I would probably benefit from another dog in the home to act as my ’seeing

eye dog’. I am young, between 12 and 18-months-old, and I weigh 40 pounds. Contact Pender Humane Society if you can offer me a temporary home - or, even better, if you are

interested in adoption! Their number is 910-259-7022.

I am sponsored by Rob and Mary Margaret Dillow in honor of Eric Howland and Meghann Connor.

I’m Red and I am look-ing for you! Let me tell you about my favorite thing…PLAYING! I

really like playing with dogs regularly, so a

very playful sibling or two is probably a must for me! I also love to chase the red laser light and run like the

wind. That is another thing I love… RUN-

NING! I like big dogs most and want a home without cats, birds or rabbits. I enjoy snug-gle time, but will hap-pily lay on the floor

when I am tired. I will not lie, I do like a good

comfy bed, preferably with you in it! I am amazing with children of all ages and sizes (I live with two children under the age of five right now) and haven’t met a person that I haven’t loved! I do jump up to say hi and am a bit mouthy

at times, but I am quickly learning that kisses and sits are a much better option! Otherwise, I am a good boy in the

house. I don’t need a crate as I don’t chew on things that aren’t mine, I don’t counter surf, and I only go potty outside. I walk well on leash with a gentle leader and ride like a per-fect angel in the car. Overall, I am a loveable, young boy who aims to please. Do I sound like the boy for you? ◄Hello! I'm Baxter (A073012), a 2-year-old male Beagle. I'm a mellow, gentle little guy looking for a family who is generous with comforting cuddles! If you know anything about Beagles, then you know that I am a loyal friend, excellent confidante and fabulous kitchen floor vacuum! Come meet me today, please?

◄Hello! My name is Sadie (A072320) and I'm a 4-year-old spayed Border Collie/Hound mix. I am such an easy-going and well-behaved girl - I already know basic commands and could easily learn more! I'm friendly and cheerful and all-around wonder-ful. Please come meet me and see if we could be meant for one another!

◄Hi everyone! I'm Teddy (A072050), a 5-month-old male kitten. Handsome and affectionate, I'd make a fantastic new family member! I enjoy playing with cat toys and getting at-tention from the kind volunteers at the shel-ter. Please come out to meet me so you can see just how ut-terly amazing I am!

►Hello everyone! I’m Mia (A072083), a female Walker Hound, just over 1-year-old. I'm a sweet, gentle soul who's ready to share my love with a

great family! If you could use a best friend to share in all the wonderful things

in life (long walks on the beach, car rides to the

doggie park, stopping to smell the roses, going to town on a peanut-butter filled kong... oh wait, is that just a dog thing?),

then please come meet me, I won’t disappoint!

◄I’ve got that shy “Lady Di” look, don’t I? My name is

Petunia (A073235) and I'm a 2-month-

old female Calico kitten. I have such a

unique beauty - you really need to see it in per-son! Besides

being utterly gorgeous, I'm oh so sweet! I would love to have a family of my own, so please hurry on over!

►Hello everyone! I'm Camelia (A073233),

a 2-month-old female kitten. I'm a wee bit

shy right now and could really use a

family of my own to show me that the

world is a pretty awe-some place! After all,

I’m quite new to the planet. Please come

out and visit with me - we just might be per-

fect soul mates!

Hello! My name is Blossom. I am sweet and black with a little patch of white on my

chest, right over my big red heart! (And a little on my tummy too!) I was a feral kitten who came to the vet to be spayed and released in 2007, but I was just too sweet. I

went to live with a rescue until that rescue closed

their doors and C.A.R.E. opened their doors to me. It's been a few years, but I am still

searching for my fur-ever home. Is it with you? If you are interested in adopting me, please call 910-256-

2624. If you would like to donate to C.A.R.E., please go to www.carewilmington.org and click on the donate button. For updates on me and my friends, please follow us on

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

My name is Clover and I'm still waiting to

find a very special forever home! Would-n't you LOVE to have

a lucky charm like me? I'm a 9-month-old

Shepherd mix and I only weigh 32 pounds. I was fortunate enough to find College Road

Animal Hospital when I wasn’t feeling very

well. Thanks to their love and care, I am

now a healthy young girl with a new lease

on life. I am fully vac-cinated, spayed, heart-

worm free, and current on my monthly heartworm preven-tion. I enjoy playing with humans and dogs alike. I'm a very gentle girl who is still a little curious about cats. I know how to 'sit' and 'lay down' on command and I am

always willing to learn new tricks. Will you teach me a few and be my forever home? If you are interested in submit-ting an application to adopt me, call 910-395-6555 or visit www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com (click on Articles).

a little attention and a warm lap.

And the extra perk is that I get along with other cats - if

you have another kitty, no worries there! I am still a young lady at only 15-months.

►I want to go out!!!! That’s right - I want

to be an indoor-outdoor cat. I’m

kinda like a dog and like to go outside to poop. Not really into

the cat box thing. Pooping in the

house is so gross! So if you want a cat who behaves like a dog - come see me, Nellie. I am a 3-year-old black and white

female. I love to greet people just like a dog. I must be part dog! Poop outside, greet people, ex-

tremely friendly - sounds like dog to me!

◄I am the star of the cats! Hence they named me Aster. I am one of those rare orange female kitties. I can be a little timid at first, but that’s just a protective cover. I want to make sure you really want me and you’ll take the time to see how special I am. Give me a window and I’ll sit in it forever, watching the world go by. I have been to the vet so I’m spayed and current on vaccinations. Please give me a chance to live out a full life with you.

►There’s always one every month, a declawed cat that

is! This month it is me, Azumi. I am a 1-year-old

white female. I too am a little timid at first, but once I get to know you - all bets are off! I

am very playful but well-behaved. Just like you wish your kids were! I’ve already

been spayed and I’m current on vaccinations. Please call

today about adopting me!

Flo-Jo is my name and, like my Olympics award-winning name-sake, I run like a champ! After

all, I am a Greyhound mix. How-ever, my racing days are in the past, ‘cause now I just want to

chill with a loving owner and I am being trained in Monty's Home's Pawsitive Partners Prison Pro-

gram to run only when you want me to (that's how well they train me!) I also stay, sit, walk nicely on a leash, and lots more. I am getting a diploma to prove it. I

am a very pretty girl, as you can see, and I feel I am quite the star because everyone notices how pretty I am and I don't contradict

them. Come see for yourself! Visit us online at www.montyshome.org. Write to

I am so grrr-rateful to my best bud Addie the dog for sponsoring me this month! Her mom, Connie, knows how important these sponsorships are, and we thank

her so, so much!

My name is Norman and I am a truly wonderful cat. As you can see in my picture, I am a ham. I roll around and love being on soft things. I absolutely love the good life - who doesn’t? I am great with cats, kids and dogs and I

need no time to adjust at all. I am an easy boy who would make a great family pet. I have already been to see the

veterinarian where I was neutered and vaccinated. If you would like to know more info about me or would like to in-quire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-

◄Hello! My name is Rocco and I’m a little boy, just 2-years-old. I play very nicely with the other kitties at the shelter. In fact, one of my best friends is Larry, who is also pictured on this page. ▲Ahhhh, there’s nothing better than curling up on a cozy cat bed in a sunshine-filled window. Well, let me amend that, the only thing that would be better is if I was doing this very thing in my new home! My name

is Tabitha and I’m a 1-year-old girl who is already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I’m a super-sweet kitty, always glad to be kissed and cuddled. I get along great with other cats and enjoy batting toys

in between naps. Could I be your new girl?

◄My name is Larry and, although I’m homeless, I’m managing to make the best of things with my upbeat and very friendly personality. I’ve become best friends with Rocco, pictured on the top left. Hey, maybe you’d like to adopt Rocco and me together! We sure do get along. I’m a 1-year-old, darling boy who enjoys laying in the sunshine and being rubbed. Please come meet me!

◄It says on my paperwork that I like to play in the

water at the beach. So are you ready for

some fun? I’m Caesar, a very

friendly and happy Yellow

Lab mix. At just 1-year-old, I also

love going for car rides, playing

with squeaky toys, playing

with other dogs and giving kisses to

humans. I play nicely in a fence, am

house-trained, friendly to children and I know basic commands. My owners moved and couldn’t take me.

So this is your lucky day - pick me!

◄You’re gonna love me! My name is Cocoa and I’m a very sweet 6-year-old Lab mix who lost my home when my owner became ill. I’m a perfect companion: I’m al-ready house-trained, friendly to children, friendly to other dogs, good in a fence and well-mannered in a house. I even like cats! A great dog like me should be part of a family. Please come today!

My name is Albert but it doesn’t take an Einstein to recognize what a catch I am! Just look at that mug. Caro-lina Basset Hound Res-cue (CBHR)

and my great foster parents have gotten me all spruced up and I’m ready to begin the search for my forever home. They say I’m quite a loverboy with people of all ages and other dogs

- noting how much I enjoy family time! Listening ability superior to the average Basset is another trait you’ll appre-ciate if you give me a chance. I don’t like to brag, but Bas-

set and great listener don’t always go hand in hand. I’m just looking for someone who enjoys life as much as I do. It’s the little things really - like rolling around in the grass,

sleeping in the bathtub - you know, normal stuff that makes life worth living. And I’ve got a lot of living left to do. Call CBHR and tell them you’d like to meet me! My doggy bones are packed and I’m waiting! To make me a member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short

◄Hello, I’m a 10-month-old Tortie kitty named Mittens (A307040). Yea, I know it’s not a unique name but I am an original, one-of-a-kind girl. I’m spayed, vac-cinated and a big fan of tuna flavored treats! I’m homeless through no fault of my own - someone in our family was allergic to me. So I was brought here to the shelter and surren-dered with the hopes of getting a second chance in your loving home.

◄My name is JoJo (A306693) and I’m a Flame Point Siamese girl. I have super soft, cream and tan fur and I have the most beautiful blue eyes. At just 1-year of age, I know what the important things in life are: kitty toys and treats! I enjoy explor-ing my surroundings and looking out of windows. If you would like a loving and playful furry friend, please adopt me and I’ll love you forever.

►How in the world could such a beautiful and loving girl end up alone on the streets? My name is Ashley (A307412) and I’m a

2-year-old gray Tabby girl. I have medium

length fur and a bushy tail. I’m a little on the thin side after trying to

survive on my own. I’m made for the comfy,

indoor life with plenty of food, water, toys, love, and treats! With that combination of things, I’ll be back to my ideal

weight in no time. I really like being held and I’m a pro at making people feel loved. I’ll even stand up on my hind legs to nuzzle and

push my head into your hands.

►Here’s a story for ya. It’s a doozy but it’s 100% true! I was found as a stray at the

Walmart in Monkey Junction. Literally, in the Walmart! I

was over by the pizza section when somone

scooped me up and brought me to Animal Services. I

was a little hungry and trying to get a slice. I’m Wally

(A307850) and I’m a 6-month-old boy who is neutered and

vaccinated. I have the purrrfect kitten purrrsonality: playful, loving, fun and cuddly. Adopt me and I’ll purr all

day long in your arms.

►Yep, you might think I’m just a regular, ol’ black kitty but you

couldn’t be further from the truth. My name is Déjà (A306112) and I have the brightest gold eyes imaginable. They almost look like they’re made of gold leaf. And my tail, it’s about half as long as the average cat’s

tail. I was found as a stray and dropped off

here at the shelter. I’ve already been spayed and

I’m current on vaccinations. I enjoy

playing with cat toys and feeling safe. This heart of mine is ready to love you

unconditionally!

◄I’m a very hand-some, bright-eyed boy named Steve (A305999). If you love super sweet brown Tabbies, I think you’ll want to meet me. I’m just 2-years-old, neu-tered, vaccinated and very affectionate. I love exploring, I chomped down on some kitty treats, and I love head and neck rubs. I’m very social and have made friends with the other kitties here at the shelter.

Hello folks! My name is Feather and I'm a

spayed Boxer/Bulldog mix girl who's 1½-years-old. Friendly

doesn't even begin to describe me - I love everyone I meet and am so eager to show what a sweet, playful

and happy gal I am!! I can't wait to share my outgoing personality

with a loving family so hurry on down and see if I'm the love of your life! My adoption fee includes a physical examination, heart-

worm test and rabies vaccination! If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

My name, Mickey

Mouse, may be deceiving since I am actually a girl but it suits me just fine.

As a young cat, I was overfed

so the C.A.R.E. volunteers

help control my weight and

◄My name is Roxie. I’m one of four females who

were born to Piper – better known as

Piper’s Puppies. I am up to date on

shots and spayed. I have webbed feet, so that may explain why I like the wa-

ter. We guess I could be between 40-50 pounds at matur-ity. Don’t confuse me with my sister, Raven. She’s pic-

tured in the middle of the page. I’m the one with the white chest and a white streak up my nose!

◄Angus, that’s me. I can only imagine how I

got my name! Actually, I think I’m quite a hand-

some fellow with a mostly white body and

a little black on my head. Just like my sib-

lings, I have webbed feet and I do like water. An-other thing we have in

common is that we are all rather calm. We think I may be one of the bigger fellows, but don’t let that stop you from

meeting me – I’m a marshmallow!

◄Marco’s my name and everyone

thinks I am one cool dog! I am well-behaved, I

know basic com-mands and I’m very respectful of peo-

ple. However, when it comes to

other dogs, I like to be the big kahuna! I’m a big boy, about

70 pounds. I love when people come to Meet & Greets to talk with me and walk with me. I hope they will want to adopt me, but so far that hasn’t happened. Please share

my story and help me find my family!

▲Dixie – that’s me! I’m a very beautiful girl with very pretty markings. I’m a Hound mix, almost 2-years-old and I have lots of energy! A family who would spend

time with me and play with me in a fenced yard or take me running would be perfect. I am vaccinated, heartworm negative and spayed. I’m a tall girl and I weigh in at about 40 pounds. I really love people,

especially kids. Please stop by Paw’s Place and let’s see if we can run together!

◄And I’m Raven – not to

be confused with my sister, Roxie, at top – I’m the one with an all

black face. Yes, we all like the water and love

the pool – and if we don’t have a pool to play in a water bowl will do! I am ready

to be adored and loved by my new family. Come on out to visit me and see if we hit it off. I can’t imagine we

won’t because I’m so loveable!

▲Hi, I’m Holly. I was rescued on Christmas Eve. The vets think that I was born in 2009. I am quiet and shy, and I’m stunning because I have one blue eye and one brown eye. No one knows how long I was on my own, but fending for myself on a highway was scary. A quiet home with a pa-

tient human would be wonderful. I can frighten easily so a fenced-in yard would be ideal for me. I would appreciate having someone that really cares about me. Let’s meet!

Hi, we are Axel, Mona and Gizmo! We are very curious and energetic

brothers and sisters. Our

mom was very ill so our foster mom bottle and syringe fed us through each and

every night until we were

strong enough to eat on our own. So we are all very special as you can

imagine and we make our foster mom laugh every day. Being hand-

raised, we are super affectionate and cuddly and will make you a wonderful friend and companion. We each come with a spay/neuter voucher and plenty of kisses to go with it. To fill out an application to adopt one of us,

please visit www.oc-paw.com. If you have any questions, please call our Onslow County Partners for Animal

Welfare foster mom, Leslie, at 305-898-7782.

Kittens, Kittens , Kittens!! We are adorable playful little girls named Spice Girl and Princess. We are

litter-trained, fully vetted and hand-raised so we are extra sweet and cuddly. Our feline mommy died suddenly

when we were one day old and weighed only 2 ounces. Today, we are spunky and friendly and since we were

raised around dogs, we are not fearful of them. My name is Spice Girl and my sister, the dark one, is Princess because she is so very gentle. If you are

interested in adopting one or both of us, please fill out an application on our website at www.oc-paw.com. If you have any questions, please call our foster mom, Rita, at 910-650-2260 or call Onslow County Partners for

My name is Kojo and I am a beautiful 6-month-old

Hound mix. I am probably going to grow up to be a mid-sized dog around 35 to 50 pounds at most. I am a little shy so I would benefit from a quiet home without small kids. I will truly blossom with some tender loving care, pa-

tience and lots of socializa-tion. I would love to find a home with a well-balanced dog who will teach me the ropes. I have deep, soulful

eyes that will melt your heart. Come meet me at PETCO every weekend from 11am to 5pm. To adopt

me, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

My name is Naomi and I am a super sweet

Pitbull. I was used for breeding and when my owner was done with

me, he kept one of my puppies and took me to Animal Control. Real

stand up guy, you know? I am a good dog

and I’m looking for a good forever home this

time! I promise to shower you with doggie

kisses and uncondi-tional love. I am vacci-

nated and spayed and currently living with another dog in my foster home. To adopt me, please pick up the phone and call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I’m George, a 12 to 18-month-old Retriever/Lab

mix who was a stray. I was

lucky enough to find some people who saw what a great dog I am. They took me to the vet and now I'm up to date on all my vaccina-tions, I’ve been neutered and I was successfully

treated for heartworms. Now, I'm ready for my new family! I'm very friendly, good with other dogs and

do well on a leash. Please call 910-271-3101 today and we'll set up a time to meet each other.

Hi, I'm Lady. Are you ready for some activity?

I'm an energetic 3-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who needs someone to

take me jogging or Frisbee throwing. Oh, I love the water, too. When we got

done, I'll relax and snuggle with you because I love

being around people. I get along with most dogs but

sometimes chase cats. I'm up to date on all of my

vaccinations and I’m al-ready spayed so I’m ready

to be your best friend. Please call 910-271-3101 to arrange to meet me.

Hi, I’m Julius, a 2-year-old, 70 pound German

Shepherd! Don’t I look regal? I’m smart as a whip,

too. Unfortu-nately, my prior

owner didn’t care much to work with me and either kept me at home or at doggie daycare, so I have devel-oped a case of

“stranger danger”. Last year, she

turned me over to my daycare, ask-ing that I be re-

homed. Over the past 7-months, I have been work-ing with Sherri, a wonderful trainer, who will continue to work with me during and after the adoption process so

that you and I may become fast friends. I’m in need of a strong, but patient handler who enjoys continuous train-ing and lives an active lifestyle who doesn’t mind having me as their only pet. Please contact Sherri at 910-264-1214 or email [email protected] for more info.

I’m BooBoo and I do believe that I’m the Perfect Family Dog you’ve been waiting for! I was once the

much-loved compan-ion of Pender Humane Society’s Shelter Man-

ager, Deb Rye, who passed away suddenly in January. My mom Deb had me since I

was 1-year-old (I’m 11 now) and I’ve never known anything but

love. It’s all I have to give, too. I’m a won-derfully friendly girl

who lived with other dogs and cats and I even got along great with the ducks and geese on our property. Small children and big children are A-ok with me, too - nothing

upsets my laid-back and relaxed nature. I’m house-trained, leash-trained, spayed, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. I’m an affectionate and well-behaved Shepherd mix who is just waiting to be part of a family

again. It would make my mom so happy to know that I’m being cared for and loved. Can you make my dream come true? I promise, you’ll be well-rewarded with a

very wonderful companion. Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for more info.

I’m a precious puppy named Miko and I

have quite a story to tell. It begins when I was sitting in the mid-dle of the road...and a

car almost ran over me! Luckily, the man

behind the wheel swerved and missed, and then, even more incredibly, he actually stopped the car, got out and rescued me! I rode with him all the way home and met his wonderful wife,

who happens to work at Pender Humane Society. My “near-

death experience” suddenly became the best thing that ever happened to me! Now I’m waiting at the shelter for my for-ever family to arrive and, boy, will they be glad they did! I

have a calm and sweet personality and I sure do love meet-ing people and eating puppy treats. At just 12-weeks-old, I’m told I may be a Shepherd mix but no one is quite sure. You’ll love my innocent eyes and trusting expression, but

you must come out to the shelter and meet me, please! Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s have an

introductory cuddle session real soon.

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.

URGENT, URGENT!

My Time Is Running Out! Now how can a happy, friendly,

beautiful girl like me be running out of

time? My name is Olivia (A012641) and I once had a

loving home but the other dog there

kept picking on me. I’m just 8-months-old and love every-one (men, women, children and other

dogs) so I can’t understand why he didn’t want me around. Well, now I hope to find a new home so that my joyful personality can brighten someone else’s life! I’m a very pretty girl (my fur is predominately white with black

markings) and it’s believed I’m a Hound mix. My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick

treatment and my spay surgery! The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come

during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more info, call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

◄I’m such a sweet girl! It’s sad that my owners moved away without me, but I just know my luck will change soon when you walk through the door! My name is Katie (A013067) and I’m a friendly Lab mix girl who is already spayed! At a young 2-years of age, we have a lifetime of memories to make. I’ll be the best sidekick ever and you’ll be my best friend!

▲We three precious girls are KitKat, Toffee and Licorice (A013238, A013237, A013236). As you can see, we are perfect little kittens, curious and affectionate, and ready to

snuggle with our humans! We hope you’ll come to the shel-ter and meet us. There are 40 kittens at any given moment waiting at the shelter. Please take at least one of us home!

Please Adopt! WE’RE OVERCROWDED AND NEAR CAPACITY.

◄My friendly, laid-back per-sonality has made me a favorite around here! My friends at the shelter say I’ll be a fantastic companion for some lucky person or family. I’m Maya (A013193), just 3-years-old, spayed and litterbox-trained. I was so happy to be held for my photo! I love to be with hu-mans and I enjoy feeling their hands on my fur. My calm, sweet demeanor will be a joy in any household. Let’s get together real soon!

►It’s me, Bubba (A013301)! I’m a super-cute and adorable puppy with a fantastic personal-ity. How I ended up at a

shelter is a complete mystery! At 8-months-old, I’m already house-

trained and I’ve learned several commands such

as sitting and shaking paws. I’d like nothing

more than the chance to be your new baby and help you through life.

We’d be a great team!

◄I’m Crystal (A013341), a sweet Calico kitten just wait-ing to be loved. My former owner brought me to the shelter with a lot of other kittens that he didn’t want. I hope there is someone out there who sees my value and the happiness I can give! I’m just 9-weeks-old and I love to be held. Just like any other adorable kit-ten, I’m playful, affectionate and a joy to cuddle and hold. Please come meet me soon!

►This smiling face could be the first thing

you see every morning! My name is Precious (A013130) and I’m a

very happy and friendly girl. I’d be such a fun

companion for strolls on the beach and trips to

the dog park. I’m a 1-year-old Lab mix and

everyone knows what great family dogs Labs

are! I’m good with kids and other dogs, too!

kids and dogs, too. In fact, I am part dog or maybe I was a dog in a former life. I follow you around and want to be near you just like a dog. I am a

little older and I have diabetes which is

easily controlled with insulin. The vet

thinks it is possible that I can get off this

insulin soon and maybe get it managed with just special food. That’s my goal along with finding a loving home. It

is very easy for you to give me shots twice a day and I am feeling so much better now. If you are interested in

meeting me, please call and my groupie girls can tell you more about me and more about this diabetes stuff. Hon-

estly, it’s easy stuff and not too much money either. Adopt-An-ANGEL’s phone number is 910-392-0557 - I

highly recommend you call it.

I am sponsored in honor of all the wonderful foster mommies and daddies who care for

homeless animals.

Hello everyone! I am Gus, pictured on the right, and this is my sister, Libby. In our photo, we’re enjoying an out-

ing at the beach. As a pair of abandoned Walker Hounds, we were rescued by SOAR over four years ago.

Now we are 6-years-old. We’ve made lots of good friends at SOAR over the years, but it would sure be nice to catch a break and connect with somebody who’ll love

us 24-7 for the rest of our healthy lives. We are both sweet, laid-back, friendly with other dogs, and are good

with cats. We would love to find a home together, though we are not insisting on that. Could your home be the one? if you are interested in meeting us, please call

SOAR at 910-457-6340 and let’s get together!

We are sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to

the Rainbow Bridge.

◄You say that camera you’re holding will help everyone see how cute I am and find me a home? That’s great! My name is Dixie and I’m a Hound mix girl, about 2 to 3-years-old. I was found all by my-self on Route 210 to-ward Hampstead. I’ve had all my shots and am also spayed. I’m very sweet and I get along with all other dogs and cats. I’m house-trained, too! Please come meet me!

◄I’m an adorable brown Tabby boy with a unique name: Nonamy! I was cruelly dumped by someone but found my way into loving hands. I am now neu-tered, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. I am ready to find my forever home! I came to the shelter as a frightened and skittish little thing, but I now just love to be petted and held. I will be a very fine companion for you!

◄Small Dog Alert! Look how cute I am in my doggie sweater. I’d be so adorable prancing around your house! My name is Stella and I’m a sweet

Chihuahua mix girl. I’m a little shy when you first meet me, but please

give me a chance! I am friendly and loving and I enjoy playing with other small dogs. I also enjoy

walks on a leash and tak-ing naps in the sun. I’m already spayed, vacci-

nated and on heartworm prevention. Would you please come meet me today?

◄They tell me I’m more like a loyal puppy than a cat! You see, I adore humans and will snuggle in their arms (check out my photo) or cuddle in their lap. I like to be with my people and will follow them in the house. I’m not underfoot, I just like to keep you company. My name is Tango and I’m a handsome orange boy who will be your very best friend!

►I’m a darling

Dachshund named

Gabby. I was found in

Rocky Point wandering

around all by myself. I am very sweet

and I love to be with peo-

ple. I’m about 1½-years-old. I just got my first shots and am spayed. I’m in a foster home right now, so if you’d like to meet me you’ll need an appoint-

ment. Please call the shelter at 910-259-7022. See you then!

►This is your lucky day! Want to know

why? Because I’m a darling puppy and I’m looking for you! My

name is Morena and I’m a smart, fun and friendly girl who is ready to play fetch.

Yes, I will get the ball and bring it back to

you! I also walk well on a leash and can sit on command! At just 7-months-old, I have so many happy years ahead to share with you. I’m good with other dogs and just want to be loved!

Hello everyone! I'm Tango (A072253), a 3-year-old, neutered Walker Hound boy. I had a bit of a rough

start in life - you would-n't believe how skinny I was when I showed up at the shelter! They've taken such good care of me and now I'm all

ready to find a family of my very own! I'm such a sweet-tempered and cheerful guy, ready to

be a phenomenal best buddy! I'm searching for someone who will make me feel loved and secure - in return, I prom-

ise a lifetime of puppy love and loyalty! You’ll also be pleased to know that my adoption fee includes a physical

examination, heartworm test and rabies vaccination. Wow, what a deal! For driving directions or more info, call Bruns-

wick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204. Please hurry on over and get to know me!

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in

loving memory of Maya. No one can ever love you like a rescued pet.

I’m one German Shep-herd mix puppy you’d

love to have as a family companion! Keep read-ing to find out why! My name is Mary and I’m a 6-month-old spayed girl.

I am an extremely smart, adventurous and curious pup. I know the

command “off”, I sit when you put the leash on me, and I know that “Let’s go” means we’re ready to go outside. I play nicely in a fence and have a great time

with other dogs. I adore people and love giving them kisses. Toys and rawhides are two of my other favorites. I’m crate-trained, on heartworm prevention and just 37 pounds. Don’t I sound like a great girl? Well, please come meet me and let’s see if we’re a match! For more info or directions to the shelter, please call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 .

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan.

◄My name is Helga and I am a beautiful 3-year-old Blue Pitbull. I was in horrible shape when I was found wandering the streets of Wilmington. Now, I have been spayed, I'm up to date on my vaccines and I’m very ready for my forever home. I am extremely sweet with all people but I need a home with no other pets. I want you all to myself. I love car rides, the beach, going on walks and cuddling.

◄Here I am, the most perfect and sweetest senior buddy you will

ever meet. My name is Tootsie and I am a Bor-

der Collie mix. Even though I am 10-years-

old, I not only look like a puppy but I act like one, too. I absolutely love,

love, love to go on walks and will go as far as you want. I am great on a leash and so happy to be outside. I do have

heartworms but R.A.C.E. is paying for my care so there will be no charge to my new family. Please come and meet me, you will

fall in love with me. I am sooooo easy in the house and I’m what they call a turnkey dog.

►I AM LOOKINGFOR A PERMANENT FOSTER HOME! My name is Baxter and I am a loving, sweet little Cairn Terrier mix. I am 8-years-old and was

surrendered to the shelter because my family wanted to keep the

younger dog. It broke my heart to be tossed out like a piece of trash. R.A.C.E. took me in and is looking for someone to give me a home where I can live out my life

feeling loved. The thing I enjoy the most is laying in your lap, I will do it all day and I'll even watch TV with you. I am such an easy dog. The reason I need a permanent foster home is because I have cataracts, although I can see a little, I do not hear well and I do have arthritis in my rear legs. R.A.C.E. will pay for my medications and you will not have to pay an adop-

tion fee, just take me home and spoil me.

►My name is Kahlua. I love everyone and get so excited when people come around

because I want everyone

to pet me. I had to have

my leg ampu-tated because of an injury that healed wrong but that does not slow me

down one bit. I love to play and go for long walks. I have been through training and behave very well. I like

most dogs but I will chase cats. Please take a chance on me and call R.A.C.E. today.

◄My name is Bailey and I am an 8-years-young Shep-herd and Chow mix. I hail from Ohio where unfortu-nately, my owner recently passed away. His best

friend raised money for me to be flown to NC where I

hope to find my new forever home. I am a beautiful 65 pound bundle of love. I am staying with 6 dogs, so it's safe to say I get along with

dogs just fine. I am ob-sessed with balls, I love to chase them and I will run after them as long as you keep throwing them. I am

fully vetted, spayed, on heartworm prevention and micro-chipped. I really am a lot of fun.

►Hey there, my name is Buttercup and I absolutely love people and other ani-mals. I am a beautiful red Lab/Hound mix (we think). I have the loving nature of

both breeds and would make an awesome family dog. I am approximately 2-years-old, I am being

trained by my foster mom - who just loves me to

pieces. I was turned in to the shelter with my 7 ador-able pups who are also for

adoption. I only weigh about 40 pounds and am just as sweet as they come. I love walks, the dog park,

car rides and anything else we can do together.

My name is Jerry (A306458) and I’m a true companion - in every sense of the word. I even had

those PawPrints Maga-zine ladies wrapped

around my paw within minutes! I crave being petted and will rub my noggin’ against your

legs, your hands, your cheek, even your fore-head. I am a total love

bug and Lap Aficio-nado who likes belly rubs. I’m very social

and loveable, I purr all the time, and I’m one of the most chill, laid-back cats you will ever meet. I’m not even stressed out by shelter life or the other kitties here. I seriously love being held and will make slow-motion air biscuits. I hope you won’t wait long to come meet me because I’m beyond eager to love on

you. I’m 3-years-old, neutered and vaccinated so I can be adopted today! Call New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Animal

◄I am Lyla, a 3-year-old

female Boxer mix. I am very

athletic and don’t mind going to a

home with hu-mans who like to be active. A home with an-other friendly dog like me

would be right up my alley, too! I am also very smart – I can sit, shake and give kisses. All these qualities and sweet to boot, yet over two years here and nobody seems to want

me. I don’t get it. I’m a gem waiting to be found!

▲Talk about a lovey dovey! Oh my!! My name is Caesar and I am such a baby! I love to roll around and show off my belly. I also love ear rubs. I’m a neutered, orange

Tabby boy, approximately 4-years-old. Adopt me and I’ll show you just how affectionate and loving a cat can be!

►Hello, new friends! My

name is Dixie and I’m an

18-month-old Tortoiseshell female who is spayed, vacci-

nated and litter-box-trained. I

tend to be a little shy at first, but all you have to do is

give me a nice head rub and I will love you for life! Won’t you please come to the shelter and visit with me? You’ll see

what a wonderful addition to the family I would be!

▲My name is Prince and I’m a medium-haired furr-ball. I’m simply beautiful - orange and white fur with the prettiest

plume of a tail! I’m just a tad bit shy at first, but when I warm up - watch out! I am a love bug! I came in with my brother Caesar, pictured at top, but we do not have to be adopted together. I’m around 4-years-old and ready to go home!

►I’m Ridley, a 5-year-old Chocolate

Lab found aban-doned around Bur-

gaw. I play well with other dogs and am not aggressive to-ward cats. I love tennis balls and

totally love playing with the water from the water hose! I’m

microchipped, 65 pounds, neutered

and vaccinated. A fenced yard to play

in with my new fam-ily would be great!

►Hello there, my name is Baylee! I’m a very sweet 2-year-old Bea-gle/Hound mix girl and

they tell me I’m a baby-doll! I have lots of en-

ergy, but I’m just as loving as I am ener-

getic. I love sitting in your lap while you rub

my head. I play well with dogs of all sizes,

and would love a home with a fenced-in yard. I

am also spayed, up to date on all vaccinations

and I weigh just 25 pounds. What a nice

size! Come meet me.

Save lives…please spay or neuter your pets!

Hello! I’m Snowball,

a very handsome 3-year-old,

cream-colored male Poodle avail-

able for adoption through

Schnauzer Rescue of the Caroli-

nas. I am a heartworm negative, mid-size,

neutered boy who does well with other dogs. I love people but I’m not

recommended for small children due to my alpha personal-ity. I am such a handsome boy -- you will fall in love with my face right away! If you are interested in me and would like to read more about me or other pets up for adoption, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You can call 919-723-7145 if you need an application mailed or

faxed to you.

SMALL DOG ALERT! I’m a

little miss named Miss Priss! I was

found as a stray with a leash dragging behind me. As

sweet and affection-ate as I am, it seems someone would be missing me, but no one has come to

claim me. My friends at the shelter tell me they’ll find me a won-

derful home. I’m a small Feist/Rat Ter-

rier mix who gets along well with other dogs. I love all peo-ple, too! And as for my health, I’m spayed, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. Won’t you come meet me to-day? We can go for a walk together and I can show you

what an excellent companion I’d be! Call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for directions or more information.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! I’ve always been a

house dog, so I’m very bewildered by my new

surroundings! My name is Blacky

(A013305) and I’m a 2-year-old Beagle mix boy who is low to the

ground, but my love for humans is as bound-

less as the sky! I once was part of a family, but my elderly owner

moved to a place where I couldn’t follow.

Is there someone out there who has sympathy for my plight? I’m a very quiet and polite boy and I just want to be in a home again where I can feel safe. I’ll give you cuddles and love in return! My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Ra-

bies Vaccine, deworming, 30 day flea/tick treatment and my neuter surgery. The shelter is now open on Sun-

days, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also open on Saturdays from Noon to

4pm. For more info, call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I’d love to be a house dog again!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Hank Harrington.

Always thought adopting a senior dog wasn't for you? Well, my foster mom says you would truly be missing

out if you didn't take a chance on me! My name is Caine and I was left without a pet parent when my dad

passed away of cancer. My foster mommy took me in

after that. She tells me often that I am a wonderful, loyal, gem of a dog. I love people so much and will do anything

to please my pet parent. I may be 11 but I still love to play ball, go for walks and nothing makes me happier than

the wind on my face during a car ride. I am completely house-trained and even though I do great in a crate I don't ever

need to go in one when you’re not home. I enjoy the simple life - sleeping is something I am very good at and I will happily cuddle with you on the couch. I am in great health, neutered and up to date on shots. There is only one small thing about me. You see, I never grew up with any other pets; it was al-ways just me and my dad. A home without other pets or tiny children would be ideal for me. My foster mom would like to add that she will donate 3-months worth of food, 6-months of heartworm prevention and free pet sitting for life (she runs a

pet sitting business) with my adoption! Call my foster mommy today with any questions at 910-538-0106. Love, Caine

I am sponsored by Rob and Mary Margaret Dillow in

honor of Eric Howland and Meghann Connor.

My name is Juno and I’m a Siberian Husky/Shepherd mix who is very

gorgeous and lov-ing. I’m 18-months-old and 60 pounds

of pure love and joy. I would love to

find a home that has children, other

dogs or maybe even both. I have lots of energy and would love to have a home with a big fenced yard and plenty of toys to

play with. My fos-ter mom takes me for long walks and we sometimes go to the beach - I love

the beach and also car rides. I'm up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm free and on monthly heartworm/flea prevention. I’m also house-trained and crate-trained. If

you would like to meet me, please call Pat with Cape Fear Rescue League at 910-207-2071 and she will give you all

the information on how we can meet me.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

My name is Bobby

and I have the most striking good

looks. I have

bleached white fur with deep

black splashes

that create this unique contrast. How cool is that? If you were an

artist, you couldn't create an image as beautiful. I have a notched ear because I was born on the streets and went through a feral cat program. My rescuer thought I had a chance at becoming someone's pampered pet so she

opened her home to me and taught me how to love peo-ple. I am shy and quiet and would benefit from a quiet

home. I am at Petco watching the people go by my cage. I think you humans are a busy species who miss a lot with all of the things you find important and try to get

done. I think you need me to teach you to slow down and to just sit and pet me. I can teach you what is important and what is not, how to become patient and less impul-sive and how to work towards a goal and watch it blos-

som with time. For now, I am just resting my head on this pillow, watching and waiting for you. If you would like to know more information about me or to inquire about the

adoption process, give Adopt-An-ANGEL a call at 910-392-0557. You may also visit us online at

My name is Morgan

(A076760) and I was brought to the

shelter because my owner had

abandoned me. But even though my life has been

extremely rough, I come with great feline qualities.

I’m litterbox-trained, I am cur-rent on shots, I

tested negative for Feline Leukemia, I’m spayed and I’m a pure treasure to hold on your lap. I will give you ample

TLC, if given the chance. I’m not the greatest looking cat presently due to neglect but trust me - I’m coming back

strong and I’m very congenial and loving, which makes up for the ‘looks department’. Come on by Onslow County Animal Shelter to meet me, as I’m certain you’ll want to

adopt me on the spot! We’re located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville. To adopt me, call 910-455-0182.

I am sponsored by Dan and Sue Tuman in honor of all

the cats who are waiting for homes at the shelter.

Hi, my name is Dexi! I am a very loving girl

who, unfortunately, is back with C.A.R.E.

after my furever home didn’t turn out to be

forever. My new family had some personal issues and could no

longer take care of me. I am spayed, micro-chipped, great with

people and other dogs. I was originally surren-dered to C.A.R.E. with demodex (mange), but my friends took care of me and now I am look-ing good and feeling

great! If you are interested in adopting me, please call 910-256-2624. If you would like to donate to C.A.R.E., please go to www.carewilmington.org and click on the donate but-ton. For updates on me and my friends, please like us on

Facebook at www.facebook.com/carewilmington.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

Prison Inmate Trainers from Monty’s Home Vie To Be “Top Dogs” in NC The "New Leash on Life" program, which pairs mini-mum and medium custody state prisons with local animal shelters and animal welfare agencies to train dogs in prepa-ration for their adoption, is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a competition. Monty's Home dog trainers at the New Hanover and Pender correctional facilities are putting their "best paws forward" to come out on top in this friendly ri-valry among inmate trainers across the state. The Monty's Home "Pawsitive Partners Prison Program" was the first companion dog prison training program in Southeastern North Carolina, and is the largest in the state. In the program, seven dogs are selected from local shelters. After temperament evaluation, heartworm testing, spaying/neutering and vaccinations, the dogs are partnered with trainer-inmates at Pender and New Hanover correctional facilities for eight weeks. After graduation, the dogs are adopted into the community as companion pets. Monty's Home maintains a 100% adoption rate. “We are very proud that we are a completely volunteer organization,” stated Barbara Raab, founder and director of Monty's Home. “Every penny that comes in, typically from fund-raising and donations, goes to our animals.” For more info, visit www.montyshome.org or call 910-297-1338 .

Adopt-An-ANGEL Seeks Volunteers Do you have some spare time? Would you like to help Adopt-An-ANGEL find homes for homeless animals? They are looking for some energetic, responsible, commit-ted, passionate people to help out at adoption fairs. They hold adoption fairs every Saturday and Sunday at Petco on South College Road in Wilmington from 10am to 6pm. Volunteer shifts generally run from 10am to 2pm or 2pm to 6pm one day on the weekend. You can sign up weekly so come when you can. It does require some manual labor such as lifting cages, cleaning cages and walking strong dogs. There are also a few weekly shifts open for cage cleaning at various pet stores throughout the week and some transport options, too. It can be very meaningful and rewarding to help a homeless animal find its forever home. For more information, please call Art at 203-994-3765. You may only be one person, but you can be one person who makes a difference. Life is too short, do stuff that matters!

We are Buddy and Rocky. We’re Plott Hound mix brothers who are

fixed, vaccinated, weigh 30 pounds each, and ready to roll right on out of here. We don’t need to be adopted

together, but we are best friends. For this reason, our adoption fee is “Buy One, Get One” for the month of Au-gust. We are 7-months of age and are getting tired of being in foster care. We’re sweet and docile, get

along well with children and cats and want nothing more than to find a per-

manent place to hang our hats...errr...leashes. Not ready for two dogs? Bring a friend-our BOGO offer still applies! Call 910-619-3015 or email [email protected] for info.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES

My name is Deaton (A077160)

and my family dumped me off

here ‘cause they didn’t have the

time for me. I so desire to have my own forever family to love and take care of. Please

give me a chance to prove myself to you by coming into the shelter and ask-ing to see me, Deaton, the 11-month-old Jack Russell with a heart as big as Texas. I will love my human family and will make adjustments needed to fit into your life. I’ll be

waiting for you to come adopt me, as I’m growing into one terrific dog! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown

Road in Jacksonville. To adopt me, call 910-455-0182.

4 PAW LIFESAVER RESCUE

My name is Luxi. I have been in foster care for over a year and I

really want my own home. I used to have my own humans, but they weren't that nice. They kept me chained up in the yard and didn't feed me. Luckily, I was rescued

and since then, life has been grand! I am no longer skinny, the vet did all sorts of things to me but now I am

fully vetted and healthy. I take monthly heartworm and flea prevention. I am 2½-years-old and I weigh 55 pounds. My

foster mom has 5 other dogs and 3 cats. I love them all even the tiny little dog who chases me and bites my feet. I am a really good girl, I am house and crate-trained, know

my basic commands and love to go for rides. To adopt me, email [email protected] or call 252-531-0744.

My name is Beckham and I was found with my siblings at a local business. My coloring

makes me look like a cow and I have a cute black nose.

I was very scared when I arrived at my foster home at

about 10-weeks of age. I have come a long way but will need patience and time

with my new family to build trust. I don’t mind being petted and I like to play. I probably wouldn’t do well with small children or hyper dogs. I deserve a quiet, loving, inside home where I will be safe. I like to look out windows so

maybe you have a spot like that for me. To find out more, email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, my name is Spirit! I’m a Bull Dog mix with perhaps a bit of Dane in me. I’m a big boy, just under a

year old, and I’m full of spirit, hence my name. I was surrendered by my owner and PEAR later discovered I had been left in a bedroom

for my entire child-hood. I am still a little pup at heart and my new friends are teaching me the ways of life. I am full of energy, I love peo-ple and I love to run and play. If you’re interested in meet-

ing me and giving me a second chance, call PEAR at 910-675-0867 or email [email protected].

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Gino. I am an ador-able 2-month-old kitten who was hand-raised/bottle-fed. I have been dewormed, I’m litter-trained and I’m current on age appropri-ate vaccinations. I’m a sweet, affectionate and very smart little boy. If you would like to know more about me or if you would like to give me a forever home, please visit www.oc-paw.com for an application or contact Onslow Partners for Animal Welfare by emailing [email protected]. You should also contact my foster mom, Leslie, via email at [email protected] or you can call 305-898-7782. I’ll give you lots of love in return.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

I am Picabo (pronounced Peek a Boo), named after Gold Medal

winning Olympic alpine race skier Picabo Street. I am just 3-years-old and a beautiful English

Coon Hound. I am one of the four dogs in this magazine from Monty's Home's Pawsitive Part-ners Prison Program, where we get diplomas after being trained for eight weeks, so we can sit, stay, walk nicely on leash and

lots more. The four of us are all named after sports champions. I

think I'm particularly beautiful because of my stunning coloring. Wouldn’t you like to adopt me? Visit us online at www.montyshome.org. Write to [email protected]

for more details, or call us at 910-297-1338. PLEASE LIKE US ON FACEBOOK at www.facebook.com/montyshome!

I'm Leo and I’m a gor-geous gray and white

Pomeranian mix. I'm a year old, fully vetted and I weigh 11 pounds. I am so

sweet, love kisses and being petted. I love to play

and would love another playful companion. I need a fenced yard because I love to run out the door

when I get the chance! My adoption information is available on Petfinder.com under

Hi! My name is Captain Jack and I was surrendered to C.A.R.E. after being

stuck under a vehicle. I had multiple injuries and wounds, but the

volunteers at C.A.R.E. are giving me lots of TLC. I am currently undergoing medical

treatment, but I would love to find a home by the time I am healed. If you would like to donate to my care, visit www.carewilmington.org and click on the donate button. For info about adopting

me and updates on my condition, call 910-256-2624 or like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/carewilmington.

My name is Banker and I was found hanging out at PNC Bank on Oleander Drive right across from the mall. That is a very dangerous place for me to be abandoned, but that’s

what happened. I tried to befriend the nice ladies at the bank in hopes that they would find me a home where I

would have the lifestyle that I deserve. I am quiet, dainty and super loveable and I am EASY. I’m already vacci-

nated and fixed. Do you know someone who will take me in and provide me the good life? If you would like to know more about me, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. You may visit www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

My name is Jordan, after North Carolina's most famous sports hero. I am just a pup at 7-months-old. I am a bit of a shy little guy, but I will warm up to you quickly! I am being trained at our Monty's Home Pawsitive Partners

Prison Program for eight weeks. I will get a real diploma saying that I can walk nicely on a leash, come when I'm

called, sit, stay, and make potty in the proper place! Just look at me. Have you ever seen a more handsome or

talented dog? One more thing: unlike Michael Jordan, I don't dribble! (Ha ha - a little doggie humor there!) But what I can do is be your very best pal forever! Visit us

online at www.montyshome.org. Write to [email protected] for more details, or call us at 910-297-1338. PLEASE LIKE US ON FACEBOOK at

Breed Rescues

BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE TEAM CAROLINA

Hi, my name is Riley and I’m an almost 2-year-old, very energetic, Boston

Terrier mix who is looking for an active family to call my own. I get along great with male dogs and would probably excel in agility-

training! I love to run and play and hang out on the

couch! I’m very sweet and snuggly and my fos-ter mom says I will melt your heart. I will need to go on daily walks or runs and will be your best friend for life! If you are interested in adopting me, please email

[email protected] or call 828-778-2045.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

My name is Aladdin! My owner turned me in to the shelter as she

said she could no longer care for me. I am a really sweet, 7-year-old, male, silver Miniature Poodle and live to be loved. Show me a little affection and I

will be devoted to you! I am very happy to lay in your lap or at your feet

in a dog bed. I really do like to be with you, whether it is at home, going for a walk or riding in the car. Soak-ing up sunshine on the deck is also a favorite. If you let me, I will curl up in bed with you and sleep all night. I am

a quiet boy who would do best in a home with no young children and maybe a "buddy" to keep me company when

you are gone. I am looking for my forever home. Visit www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and apply. If you have any questions, call 864-489-3559. We hope to meet you soon!

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

My name is Pandora. I am an extremely love-able white Great Dane who is almost 2-years-

old. My foster mom says I’m a perfect mix of play and love. When I’m not romping with my foster sister, I prefer to be in

your lap for some loving. I absolutely love life and

am full of positive en-ergy! However, I am challenged in the fact that I am al-

most completely deaf and have some visual impairment. I am able to see well if you are in front of me and at a dis-tance of less than roughly twenty feet. My peripheral vi-sion is limited and I won’t hear you (I’m not just ignoring you). I like to bark whenever my foster sister or brother

bark at something I can’t hear, but hey, it’s like a game of Simon Says! I am very good at responding to hand sig-nals, which are easy for my human to learn. I am excep-

tionally smart, making me easy to train. I love kids (previously lived with 3 and 4-year-old dog-savvy kids), cats, and other dogs. And when in the immediate com-

pany of my owner, I am incredibly affectionate, extremely "touchy-feely", and even love to sleep upside-down! Give

me a belly rub at this point and I'm yours for life! I'd be happy to show you that my loving personality and easy-going demeanor far outweigh any shortcomings. I am in

need of a home with a hearing dog, fenced yard and a little love, okay, a lot of love! To adopt me, call 704-559-4121

or email [email protected].

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

Hello, my name is Matthew! I’m a young, black Schnauzer/Poodle mix. I’m a fantastic dog with per-

sonality plus and I’ll be a great family pet! I’m house-trained,

great with other dogs, I love peo-ple and I even know some tricks

that I can show you. I’m definitely a little lap baby, too! I walk on a

leash pretty well and I love to ride in the car. I’m also microchipped, vaccinated, neutered and heart-worm negative. If you would like

to read more about me or other pets up for adoption, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. Please call 919-723-7145 if you need an application mailed or faxed to you.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

My name is Miss Minnie Pearl Basset, but you can

call me Minnie. I am a 3 to 4-year-old little lady. I am a tiny

Basset and right now I only weigh about 28 pounds. I am really skinny but I love food and I am starting to fill out a bit. I am just the sweetest

little thing and I just love eve-ryone. I love to play fetch

with a soft squeaky toy. You heard me right, I am a Basset that plays fetch! I am really just a love bug and I love to cuddle with people when they sit down on the couch. At first I was a little intimidated by the bossy dog in my foster home, but after a day or so we have become best girl friends and we cuddle up together

when we sleep. I don’t chew things up at all and I liked my bath and my ear cleaning just fine. I will be a great addi-tion to anyone’s home. To make me a member of your

family, call 919-708-4247 or visit www.cbhr.com. Also, we are always short on foster homes! If you have ever

thought about fostering, contact CBHR for more details.

Hi, it’s Jeter here. I under-stand there is some famous

baseball player with the same name – I won-der how that happened?!? My first public appearance

was in the St. James Foun-ders Parade

and I must ad-mit that I liked the attention given to me. I’m one of 11

adorable puppies that were born on May 12. I’m not as big as my brothers, but not as small as my sisters, either – I

think I’m perfect. I’m a little boy who is neutered and up to date on my puppy shots. Call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297

and let’s see if our first meeting is a “home run”! We’re open every day from 9am-Noon.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Grace Harrington.

Hi! I'm Buddy. My human and my doggie

brother passed

away re-cently. I am 12-

years-old and find myself in need of a

home. I am super

lonely right now! The

nice people taking care of me have made a vet appointment to make sure I'm top notch before you wel-come me into your home. I do great with humans, but

would prefer to be an only pet and I’m up to date on my Rabies vaccination and neutered. If you are interested in

becoming my best friend, please send an email to [email protected] or call 910-231-5142.
